It’s scary how well “Santa tell me” does each year with next to no promo Not really? Ariana became massive at the right time, especially on streaming. So "Santa Tell Me" pretty much gets amazing/huge playlist support. Promotion doesn't mean much, it's mainly about playlist support/positions.Right. I remain confused as to why so many talk about promotion, or lack of promotion, when it comes to holiday songs. Most of the top holiday songs are by acts who are dead, so clearly promotion is not needed lol (and while Brenda Lee is alive, she doesn't promote "RATCT" but it still does amazingly well). Additionally, I can't think of an instance where a performance or whatever took a holiday song to some new level.

Additionally, I can't think of an instance where a performance or whatever took a holiday song to some new level. The only example I can think of is when Mariah put out the 25th anniversary music video for AIWFCIY in 2019. It’s still very possible it would have gone to #1 without that, but in terms of Hot 100 points I don’t think it will ever be “bigger” than it was in 2019-20 thanks to the video boosting its already-strong streaming.

Additionally, I can't think of an instance where a performance or whatever took a holiday song to some new level. I assume the original comment was meant to compare her to the likes of Mariah Carey and Kelly Clarkson, who both have been running big campaigns this year for their holiday releases. To that point, I would argue and say Ariana Grande has also done the some promo—by appearing on Mariah's special last year with her "Oh Santa!" collaboration, and Kelly's special this year with the song they did together. She also did that godawful Jimmy Fallon & Megan Thee Stallion collaboration song this year about getting a booster shot during Christmas. She might not have released an original holiday song since 2015, but Ariana Grande also gets some promo and increased visibility during the holidays. And there's nothing wrong with that. "Underneath the Tree" and "Santa Tell Me" are truly the 21st century Christmas classics, nothing else even comes close (aside from Michael Bublé, whose entire career is just Christmas music at this point).

Not that it matters that much, but over the past few weeks while watching NFL games, the networks, especially ESPN, were playing RATCT several times going into the commercial break. Several years ago they did the same thing with AIW for the NBA. I guess any type of exposure helps any song.

That's not a live performance, but that new video has helped its video streams. Still, the home footage video from 1994 did well, too, and still does.

If anything the best way to have gotten RATCT to number one this year would’ve been to make the home alone sequel actually amazing and then feature it all the end. That’s how you do promo

^Comparable US Spotify last year this week, Xmas had top 17 with Willow at #18. One big difference is that it included December 24th, which was the second biggest day for holiday songs, behind Xmas itself.

All Christmas Songs gained 50K+ except for Bing Crosby's version of It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, Idina Menzel's cover of Baby It's Cold Outside, and One More Sleep
Still find it so weird Pentatonix's cover of Hallelujah is on their Christmas album despite the original having nothing to do with Christmas. Like not even a reference to December.

141( +23) Leona Lewis - One More Sleep 310,984 ( +47,791) Great to see this rising in the US spotify chart! Outpeaks last year (#152). Its overall peak is #90 with ~525,000 streams. I wonder if it can get close to that or even beat it this year!

I'm ready for Woman, Enemy, abcdefu and Cold Heart to slay post Xmas. "Cold Heart" to finally go top 10! Justin Beiber - "Ghost" should reach a new peak/perhaps go top 20. Adele - "Oh My God" should surge back into the top 40. Imagine Dragons X JID - "Enemy" will reach a new peak/likely go top 40. Some other resurgences I'm looking forward to: Silk Sonic - "Smokin' Out the window" Billie Eilish - "Happier Than Ever" Lil Nas X - "Thats What I Want" Taylor Swift - "Message In A Bottle"

Knife Talk should move back into the Top 20, maybe even Top 10.

Better Days should also (finally) reach a new peak soon, as will a whole glut of country.

I have to say, as much as I dislike the Christmas clog up at times, I do find the post-Christmas clear-out period to be immensely satisfying.

I must admit, Stay's longevity is impressive. Don't @ me.

Stay is going to end up passing Closer and SOY on the all-time list.

I know "Christmas #1" is a way bigger deal in the UK, but it's still amazing that they had a song sell over 100k this week.
Meanwhile in the US with 5x the population, since bundles were removed, only BTS army can rack up those numbers.

Elton is going to dominate this week and next week. Cold Heart, Merry Christmas, Step Into Christmas, and Sausage Rolls For Everyone.

Stay might be an even bigger worldwide hit than Blinding Lights. Fastest song to 1B streams and on course to become the fastest to 2B streams. It only lost 900K streams last week and still doing 31M weekly. It's also performing well on YT and incredibly stable on Apple Music. But it's hard to imagine Stay having the same longevity as BL after 2 years. Blinding Lights was also #1 in more countries: 34 compared to Stay's 23 countries. Either way these are the two biggest songs in the last two years (with Dance Monkey if you count it even though it took off in 2019)

32 out of the top 40 songs on Spotify is Christmas-themed.
EIGHTY PERCENT OF THE TOP 40 IS CHRISTMAS.

Speaking of Stay, it has become the first potential repeater to lock its way onto the 2022 YE chart:
