Wow. I had no idea CMB was so hated here. They made bops, slow jams, and could sing. Surface is straight up corn and even as a kid, I made fun of them, but The First Time was one of those sappy songs that fills me with nostalgia for childhood and when ballads were sweet and pure, so I don't hate it.

Odder for me is that as much as I detested almost all CMB songs*, Sam Watters would go on to be part of a production/songwriting duo with Louis Biancaniello and I legit can't think of a single song they did that I didn't like.

27. Exclusivity - Damian Dame

Damian Dame consisted of Bruce "Damian" Broadus and Debra "Deah Dame" Hurd, and were the first act signed to LaFace Records. "Exclusivity", which Bruce co-wrote with Babyface and L.A. Reid, was their first single and biggest hit, topping the R&B chart.

Fun fact: Prior to joining TLC, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas was a part-time backup dancer for Damian Dame.

Sadly, both members are no longer with us. Debra died in a car accident in 1994, and Bruce died of colon cancer in 1996, exactly two years after Debra's death.

26. Don't Wanna Change The World - Phyllis Hyman

Born in Philadelphia, Phyllis Hyman, she got her start working with artists like Jon Lucien and Norman Connors. She began hitting the charts in the late '70s and recorded for the Buddah and Arista labels before moving to Philadelphia International, where she recorded her biggest hit. "Don't Wanna Change The World" was the lead single from her Prime Of My Life Album and her only single to top the R&B chart.

For years Phyllis suffered from depression and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Just days before her 46th birthday in 1995, she was found unconscious in her apartment after overdosing on a mixture of Tuinal and vodka, and later died at the hospital. Her death was ruled a suicide.

Interesting tidbit: Her cousin was Earle Hyman, best known for his role as Russell Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

18. Forever My Lady - Jodeci

Formed in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jodeci consists of two sets of brothers: Cedric and Joel Hailey, aka K-Ci & JoJo, and Donald "DeVanté Swing" and Dalvin "Mr. Dalvin" DeGrate. The name Jodeci comes from the abbreviation of the members' names. After signing with Uptown Records, they recorded and released their debut album, Forever My Lady. Their first single, "Gotta Love", did little chartwise, but their fortunes improved with the second single, the title track. "Forever My Lady" was the first of five R&B #1s for Jodeci, and their first Top 40 hit on the Hot 100. The song was dedicated to co-writer and co-producer Al B. Sure!'s then girfriend Kim Porter and their son Quincy.

Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Tracie Spencer was first noticed after winning the junior vocalist competition on Star Search. She then became the youngest female artist to sign with Capitol Records. Her debut album was released when she was just 11 years old. "Tender Kisses" was the fourth single from her sophomore album Make The Difference. It was her biggest hit on the R&B chart, and later led to an appearance on Family Matters when she performed the song in a duet with the character Eddie Winslow.
