It's gonna look kinda weird if ed does pull of two solo 20-week top 10s from his album which has done...eh. In addition to that, the songs themselves are not even double platinum either. You have a song in the top ten for thirty plus weeks that has platinum eligibility. That really shows the travesty that has become Billboard's assessment of popularity. It is outright absurd Okay but what songs are doing better? I agree Edβs two singles arenβt exactly as major as many of his past hits but charts donβt compare the performance of songs today to the performance of songs from any other period other than also today. Overall points are down. Itβs all relative. A 20-week run in the top 10 in 2022 =/= a 20-week run in 2015. If a song looks like itβs doing really good now, it could be because the other songs around it arenβt doing as well or maintaining the same type of stability. Iβve mentioned a few times over the last few months/year that what the Hot 100 and overall charts like it measure is simply a combination of a bunch of smaller entities. Its relevance isnβt as great as it used to be because songs donβt penetrate entire populations and every demographic as frequently as they used to, so itβs basically become a chart that mixes groups of apples, groups of oranges, and groups of bananas and tries to make one unified chart from all of those.

The chart is getting wierd this past few years as well. Imagine, since late 2018 , the time when quick turnovers started. The record for All-time longevity at number 1 was achieved. Since 52/25 was implemented 7 years ago. This past 2 to 3 years, the record for longest run was achieved. And lastly, the it's getting normal nowadays for a song to drop outside the top 5 then jumps back to number 1. Additional observation is the gap between top 10 1 weeker and top 10 for more than 26 weeks is insanely high.

It's a shame we don't get figures from Amazon/Apple Music. I would be interested to see if the low numbers on spotify has translated into slightly higher numbers on other platforms given their loss of subscribers recently.
Right now would be such a killer moment for Rihanna to surprise release an album. :'(

Itβs the only logical choice at this point. βOut of Timeβ has the appeal for 5-6 formats. Itβs one of those songs that feels like it could hit #1 in airplay and stay there for a very very long time, causing people on here to complain about it. I hope Iβm right.

If Out Of Time is pushed right, it could gain some very consistent numbers on streaming while its radio gains. And then when the Vinyl/Cassette release of Dawn FM finally comes around the end of April, they should either release a deluxe version or discount the album on digital platforms so that way it could possibly have a chance of going to #1 on that week while Out Of Time hopefully approaches the top 10. Then they could subtly push another song (preferably Is There Someone Else as its the next fan fav), and have it gain slowly on radio a little bit before dropping a video and then fully going onboard with pushing that song as a single. That seems like one of the only ways to save this era from becoming a mix of MDM with Starboy treatment.

She's a billionaire businesswoman now.

In other news, Eurovision just finalized all artists competing. Normally this wouldn't be that important to the Hot 100 but after the last two winners got big international hits and crossed over, I'm curious to see if Eurovision will become a mainstay for making hits. Here are all the songs in English (seeing as how the Eurovision acts to crossover have all been in English)

The UK could be a dark horse this year. While Ukraine seems like the obvious winner, they could potentially withdraw due to the risk of winning (since I doubt that they'd be willing to host the contest under Russian occupation). The British song is easily the best thing they've presented in ages, they have the resources and, for the first time in forever, they seem to be taking the contest seriously. If they do really well, especially if they win, the song should gain traction locally purely off excitement, and with more people willing to give the Eurovision winner a chance thanks to Duncan and Maneskin, it could pick up globally. There are other contenders, like the Belgian song or Brividi which has been pulling numbers that even American hits can't really dream of. But I've listened to all the (released) tracks only yesterday, and I'm going to play them again today, so I'll be able to write something more comprehensive later.

Speaking of potential top ten songs, Big Energy is poised to be a top ten song. Female rappers (Doja Cat, Latto, Saweetie) have really reestablished Doctor Luke as a hit maker Hopefully Mariah jumps in for Big Energy(remix) for another top 10 possibility besides AIWFCIU. Or possible 20th number one.

Maybe. I'm new to the whole Eurovision craze but it does feel like America is taking the contest a bit more seriously outside of the silly performances and memes. They wouldn't have created their own knock-off song contest if they didn't think there was buzz to be created off of Eurovision.

Since when did America care about Eurovision? I would say America at large still doesn't care about or even really know about Eurovision. I'd wager most people won't realize that the upcoming American Song Contest is a spin-off. But there has to be something to the fact that two winners have now gone on to have substantial successes in the US market in spite of having no real visibility in the country. Duncan's song became a US hit 2 years after the fact, and Maneskin's Eurovision song isn't even the one that broke out. Eurovision itself didn't help those songs become US hits, but there has to have been a change in the wind at some point, otherwise America would probably have left them alone.

I believe a part of it can be attributed to the Netflix movie about Eurovision with Will Ferrell. The interest in the competition has been slowly gaining over time here, but that film really seemed to have been the catalyst in making it and the musicians viable in our market.

lol at Sweetest Pie already being below Stay on Spotify. Stay might end up going back to #2 on the Hot 100 at this rate. lol yup, we're about 2 weeks away from a Heat Waves / Stay top 2. Pretty fitting for the current music climate.
