It's a video, I promise. Also, I don't think I realized how much I wanted HMH to be a single until I found out it's going to be.

Oof. The lost opportunity of Pink Champagne. Thought I admit I threw in the towel on trying to figure out the single selection process by the end of the Cry Pretty era.

Always nice to be reminded of good will that she has within the community, even if it’s not always very publicly displayed.

When the album came out, Hate My Heart helped me to get through a cathartic end of a situationship so I hold this song fondly in my heart but…I don’t know if it’s the right choice even with the Hardy co-write. Personally, I don’t see it moving the needle as much as Crazy Angels and Pink Champagne would’ve (I would’ve included Burn too but I feel like uptempo is 100% the way to go as the second single).
Either way, I feel like they really needed to jump start some life back into the era so I hope they have exciting things lined up because the album is too good to go unnoticed/underperform.

Stunning cover obvi. I hope this finds its place on Carrie’s Grammy winning My Savior: Part II. Regarding singles: She Don’t Know, Burn, and Velvet Heartbreak are the right choices. While I prefer these 3 choices, “Hate My Heart” is my fourth choice behind these three. I actually see it being a safer single than SDK and VH (not that I'm here for safe single choices...) But I’d happily take it as a single over “Crazy Angels” and “Pink Champagne”. Aside from “Burn”, I think HMH is the song that’s best suited for country radio at the time. Upon album release, it was one of the few songs I wasn’t crazy about, but is now in my top 5 on the album. I've read similar things from many fans, so I wonder what the initial reaction will be to this. The hook really does get stuck in my head (as did Ghost Story’s). Okay, I guess I'll stop having a conversation with myself now 👀

.......
It's so safe and... uninspired. Sounds like a track from older eras. 😐
I am so frustrated if this single choice is true. Here she has a new album with the freshest sound she has in a while. Yet she chose to release the 2 tracks that sound like she hasn't progressed at all.
I love that she gets to make the music she wants after signing with Capitol. But did she sign away her ability to pick good singles?! She (or Sony) used to nail single choices pretty well... So incredibly disappointed that so many gems were left unreleased from Cry Pretty album. And now this album seems to be following the same trend.

I really think she’s been the one picking her singles since her move. So I think there’s really nobody to blame but her. However Hate My Heart (if it is in fact the next single) wouldn’t be wrong like the others she’s put out, because if she wants a song that has #1 potential all over it, based on the current radio trends, Hate My Heart is her best bet. Outside of Hate My Heart I’m with you though, the only correct singles she’s chose since her move were Southbound & Drinking alone. I think Sony was much better at knowing which songs would and wouldn’t work

I don't think it sounds like any song she's ever released at all. As where VH (love this song) reminds me a little of Smoke Break, and GS sounds like it could be from BA. My personal choices for singles have always been VH, BURN, HMH, & CA. Throw SDK in for good measure. I love the entire album, I just think those songs will do the best on country radio. I'd love if they'd send PC and Wanted Woman to AC, but they won't.

I think Sony was much better at knowing which songs would and wouldn’t work I think it has totally been her choice too. She seems to be picking songs that are special to her personally (Cry Pretty, Love Wins), or songs that she loves performing live. Southbound feels like the only exception imo, picked for radio in mind, after the first 2 singles didn't do as well.

^there’s nothing wrong with HMH, it’s just very very safe, which might be something she needs since she tried to go outside the box with CP and it kind of backfired in her face. I could see this being another top 10 for her. Just hope Burn doesn’t get shelved. It needs to be a single.

Glad to hear her acknowledge that she's heard from many fans that this is their favorite from the album. Gives me hope (aside from it being an obvious hit) that they won't leave this one unreleased.

Maybe the lead single to a degree (though not in a major way), but "Love Wins" was safe/boring and "Southbound" was made for radio.

Especially the later half of the song. “Love Wins” had an lgbt+ message, which is, obviously, very uncommon on country radio. “Drinking Alone” also sounded out of place on country radio (in a good way).

How do we know what sexual orientation the video’s cast is lol. Can you confirm they're all heteros? “Love Wins” is a phrase that has clear ties to LGBT+ community and it's the name of the song. The video colors are literally rainbow (I know it's a Holi vibe, but still) which Carrie also uses when performing it. I think it would be silly to say this song doesn’t relate to the LGBT+ Community when so many others have pointed out this connection. While it's definitely not an explicitly gay anthem, I view it as a clear nod to Carrie’s feelings on the subject. TBh, it's probably just as far as the sexist and homophobic country music industry would allow her to step and still retain her current place within the genre.

Back in the day before the release of the video there was a rumor that the video would have gay and lesbian couples together. That is what I meant. And maybe, yeah, if you watch the video I can see some themes (if I squint). But in my opinion, I don't see the song that way. And also in my opinion, LW was about as low of a risk as you could have done for a second single. Was safe and boring.

I think a lot of people wanted Love Wins to specifically be a LGBT+ specific anthem, but it wasn’t specifically that as there were no specific lyrics talking about that, and no storyline about that in the video. While I do think it can be taken that way, I think it was extremely vague to where it could match whatever the listener wanted it to be about.
If we were talking actual risks last era.
Cry Pretty and Drinking Alone were risks. I think she probably thought they would’ve translated better, but here we are. Southbound was necessary to try to get some attention back on the album after the two underperformers.

I think a lot of people wanted Love Wins to specifically be a LBGTQ specific anthem. And while I do think it can be taken that way, I think it was extremely vague to where it could match whatever the listener wanted it to be about. Based purely off the lyrics, the song is about people coming together regardless of political affiliation, ending violence & prejudice. It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right as long as we all as humans come together as one & love each other at the end of the day. I don’t see it being a song specific to one community but rather humanity as a whole.

In my opinion, I think between the title and the way Carrie’s used the rainbow aesthetic in multiple ways for this song, it’s a nod to the community. I could be wrong, but it also seems intentional. It isn’t explicitly stated though, so I understand much of what’s been said here.

"Hate My Heart" sounds like a great single choice to me. It would easily be her best release to country radio since "Dirty Laundry" in my opinion. I can see how it might sound 'safe' to some but she needs something that country radio will actually want to play and not another non-event like the lead single.
I do think this is a pretty good album. I'm not convinced it'll get four singles but I think the chances increase if "HMH" does well and they follow it up with something else that charts well. "Burn" would be my choice for the third single and then "She Don't Know" as the fourth.

Missing the Cry Pretty Your still crushes me. The Cry Pretty Tour was simply breathtaking. Truly her best tour/setlist yet. Hoping So Small makes its way back to the setlist. It's one of her most beloved songs among the fanbase, yet she likes to act like it doesn't exist lol.

Thanks for this lol I was able to make it to all her other tours (not Reflection, yet), so I was really hoping she'd release a tour special (streaming service, dvd). Still pains me I'll only be able to witness this tour from youtube videos. Would love to see "So Small" make it back into the setlist. I could use a break from some of her other hits (UI, CC, GG).

Is it wishful thinking for me to think that Carrie may announced Canadian tour dates at a later time? Or should I start planning a trip to one of the American dates soon..

I think there will be Canadian dates. Carrie said they were playing it safe due to the state of the world. From what I’ve read, it sounds like Canada is lifting the COVID border entry restrictions soon.
When she was in the UK for the D&R listening party, her team hinted at Europe dates in Summer 2023.

Off topic but relevant enough…
So basically however Carrie is performing on Mediabase will be exactly what happens on Billboard’s airplay chart? This would actually benefit her as she typically peaks higher on Mediabase… interesting move!
