If she had a performance or two this season 49k would’ve probably been 60-70k… Impressive nonetheless! MG is already Gold, right? Honestly could get close to 60k-70k with this week's numbers. It will sell the most this week out of the other weeks so far this year.

I’m so impressed with my gift! Gold certification the year after its release & over 600k units the following year! Also peaked at #5 on BB 200. That album is as beautiful & timeless as its photo shoot

“Low”
Ok so I’ve already appreciated it for what it is..an amazing song with amazing vocals. But I randomly listened to it a few times tonight and ughh it’s just so so so so good! The emotion, the inflection, the power. I don’t why it took me so long to truly appreciate this song! But it just soared into at least my top 15 Carrie songs of all-time. Just so good.

To add to this, I relistened to the entire CP record from start to finish the other day and it really does hold up. I’ll still never be a fan of Southbound, and Love Wins will always be generic and schmaltzy (though a welcome change in content in her singles catalog), but the rest of the record absolutely soars.

Unpopular opinion (?) - I prefer the Cry Pretty album to Denim and Rhinestones.

Gather around, children. Today we’re going to discuss why her 2022 Apple Music Sessions version of “Ghost Story” rivals the original studio version. That and “Blown Away” have been on loop for me for the last half hour.

I've always preferred the Apple Music Session of Ghost Story. Something about the original's production made it seem so boring, while the lyrics were rather interesting.

I like ‘em both 🫢 BA acoustic however is a nice change of pace though. It’s always hit best in a subdued arrangement, as great as the original is.

“Blown Away” (Apple Music Sessions) is definitely a career highlight. It really digs into the more sinister vibe of the song. #158 on RollingStone’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time Carrie Underwood could’ve come out of American Idol and wound up a pop-cultural footnote like countless others. Instead, she’s one of country music’s most enduring modern stars, and that is due in no small part to her remarkable voice. An instrument of power, precision, and staggering range, it was the central feature of her debut album, Some Hearts, and hits like “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” “Before He Cheats,” and “Wasted.” Fifteen years and numerous hits later, she’s still singing like she’s got something to prove — 2022’s Denim & Rhinestones has a more aggressive rock edge than some of her past work and boasts an some of her most demanding vocal work yet. The list is a disaster, but it’s a cute write up and she’s the highest ranking Idol.

Happy New Year y’all!! That list is wild!! I was wondering what are some of your hopes/predictions for Carrie in 2023?? I would love to see BURN or SDK released as single #3. I feel like either one of those would deserve to be Song/Single Of The year contenders! I would love to see HMH go #1! I feel like she will continue her CMT Awards streak. HMH would be a worthy Female Video Of The Year winner. She should be a shoo in for Performance Of The Year with GS at last year’s ceremony, or GRHOTM at CMT GIANTS honoring Vince Gill. And I will never give up hope that the CMA will finally get it right and she will win EOTY!! Haha
P.S. She better do the Sunday Night Football them again. I would be so sad it if that ended. It helps with the Sunday scaries.

Idk. I don't have any high hopes. Not sure if it's because I am not in the US, but it feels like any initial album hype has fizzled out quickly. And Ms Carrie doesn't seem to do much promo for her albums anymore.

UK tour, but the window for that being announced feels like it's closing very fast.

I personally thought she did hella promo right when the album dropped. I would like to see more towards the back half of the album era though.
Was listening to the album and continue to come back to "Velvet Heartbreak." I really don't know why that or "Crazy Angels" wasn't the lead as having "Ghost Story" as the lead didn't correlate with her "this is my fun era" narrative she sold the album on. Maybe I'm just bitter about GS because I feel like the general public heard that then D&R (song), which were the first two things dropped from the album then kinda checked out from the era, when the rest of the material on the album is MILES better. It really sucks that I doubt VH and CA will be singles. I think single 3 will be "Burn" and I could honestly see them stopping there given how long chart runs are now. If she does go for a 4th (which won't be until 2024) I wouldn't be surprised if it was "She Don't Know" which I wouldn't mind since I love the song.
Really this era should've went
Crazy Angels Velvet Heartbreak Burn Hate My Heart
(honorable mention PC and SDK)
and in that order

I actually kinda thing "Ghost Story" worked best as the first single because it is classic Carrie. Maybe she wanted to ease listeners into the album with a familiar sound.
I am still not a fan of "Burn" so while I am not rooting for that one, I know many people are.

The Rolling Stone’s list is tragic.
Carrie’s inclusion aside, the list is riddled with insults to the art of singing. Taylor Swift ranks higher than Carrie, Kelly, Christina, and many others who can literally sing circles around her. I’m not a Taylor hater, but even her fans have their questions. Not to mention the list is missing CELINE DION! I also have reservations about Carrie ranking higher than Kelly, but it’s all moot on this list…
I love their write up about Carrie, but the list overall is complete bullshit. 😂

2023 is shaping up very nicely for her. She’s got the 2nd half of her tour, which continues to sell marvelously, might I add. 10k tickets sold seems to be the minimum for most of the shows at this point, including what looks to be a possibly record-breaking Nashville show. I think the last show she did there on CP360 was a 16k seller, and she’s nearing that point with over 2 months to go. I think the logical next step for her in the future would to do a couple stadiums in some big markets for her. Minimize the number of tertiary city stops and just go all-out with a massive stadium show. Besides Taylor (not opening up that can of worms RE: “is she country?” please save it), what other country female artist is doing that?
Vegas 2023 is doing great. She’s got festival dates lined up already. I would love to see her get back overseas, but clearly that window does seem like it’s starting to close, and based on how D&R fared commercially, they might opt to skip it this album cycle.

So, "singing circles around" someone wasn't the only criteria. Speaking only for myself, Taylor Swift has vocals that have moved me more than any Celine vocal ever has, so maybe that's true of some of the voters. Of course, that's also why these lists will always be divisive; there is no list that will ever please everyone. As a Carrie fan I will just enjoy that she is one of the few country singers who were included at all. I am also getting a kick out of the promotion she's gotten for being placed behind Swift on this list. I'll also add that I'm often a lot more moved by Carrie's live performances than her recorded ones, which may have played a part (i.e. people who aren't overly familiar with her live performances may see her as just a robotic belter).

Number Ones got to "Inside Your Heaven" (a few other Carrie songs are mentioned/rated within):
Somewhat oddly one of the writers of the song replied to the tweet apologizing for the song.

I think they are apologizing in reference to the tweet calling it a bad song. I personally love the song though.

If I recall, Carrie mentioned in her press release when switching to UMG that Mabe being there was a contributing factor for her going. I’m unsure of the extent of their relationship, but I would imagine this can only be good for Carrie.

Taylor should never be in a vocal category ...EVER. She's terrible as a singer, but has gotten a little better over years. Leaving Celine off the the list made it completely irrelevant. IMO

I’ll give it a go
So Small (her best song imo, idk why she pays it dust) Church Bells (knew when the album came out this one would be huge) Two Black Cadillacs (some of her most innovative songwriting) Low (Vocals, should’ve been the lead single)
Some Hearts (feel like this is completely forgotten about lol) Mama’s Song (this isn’t amazing but not as bad as some try to make it) Ghost Story (not bad by any means but should’ve stayed an album track, like MS)

Another really solid set of songs:
Church Bells - This is one of her best and signature songs. It should have been the lead single from ST. I need to experience the live version of this with the gospel choir in my lifetime.
Low - The vocals, the emotional delivery, the meaning behind the song 😭
Ghost Story - I’ve enjoyed this one more and more as the era has progressed. I love the lyrics, the vocal delivery, and the driving melody. Having the live Apple Music Session as a toned down alternative makes it suit a different vibe that I find works really well. It’s definitely a Carrie song if I’ve ever heard one.
Two Black Cadillacs - I'm surprised I'm putting this fourth on this list, but I guess I'm just really vibing "Ghost Story" these days. I really enjoy Carrie's delivery of this atmospherically dark song. The lyrics are great, and enjoy the production. I think my fourth place ranking is due to years of overplay. I think Carrie should give this one a break from her setlist.
So Small - I never loved this as much as most and don’t revisit it that often, but it’s a good song. I actually play the acoustic live version she did at a writer’s round the most and find that to be excellent.
Some Hearts - This one is really nostalgic for me as it takes me right back to the beginning. The song fit her and its album at the time.
Mama’s Song - I find this one less offensive than most. It’s pleasant, but shouldn’t have been a single. The lyrics are definitely basic. It actually seems like it should have been the personal album closer for the PO era, instead of a promoted radio single and track three.

1. "Low" - one of my all-time favorite songs by Carrie. She uses layers of her voice I never heard before.
2. "Some Hearts" - her first more pop-oriented song and I absolutely love it.
3. "Two Black Cadillacs" - her murder songs are always so fun to listen to. The way she conveys the story with her voice is amazing.
4. "So Small" - I echo that I don't understand why she pays dust to this one. It is not my favorite song by her but it is still enjoyable.
5. "Ghost Story" - unpopular opinion: I think it was a good first single for the album. I do not like the ending and think more could have been done but I like it nonetheless.
6. "Mama's Song" - I've always loved how sweet this song is. It can be a bit boring but I love the feeling it gives off.
7. "Church Bells" - I know my placement of this will be very controversial. I know that the 'Storyteller' era is a lot of people's favorites but something about it and a lot of the songs on the project just don't do it for me including this one. It's okay but I don't revisit it often.
