Well holy shit. Wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Not a bad move, IMO. She needed to shake things up a bit!
But damn it does this now mean I need to start watching Idol again…

I think the last season I watched was the one with Pia Toscano and Haley Reinhart.

Even though the show is obviously way past its a heyday in terms of ratings, this is still a good opportunity to get her back in front of a national audience. And I hope they don't squander anything music-related by not having her drop either a single or album while the season is on.

This should be great for her music career and get her a few more hits. Great move

I remember being impressed by her last mentor segment and she’s funny with Luke. I doubt I’ll be watching but this is 100% the right move for her.
Thinking about this performance of #CUAgain:

This is exactly what her career needs right now! This is GREAT news! We get weekly doses of Carrie, and probably an album and tour launch to go with it at some point. She needs a way back into the mainstream and this is the perfect way to go about it. YES CARRIE!
I haven’t watched Idol in years, kinda looking forward to it again!
YAY!!! AHHHH!!
AND THE TIMING!!! 20 year anniversary is gonna be lit!!!

It’s a great move to get her back under the radar. Now let’s replace Luke with Brad Paisley

Full circle moment for Carrie. I love this because she is the first winner to return to host Idol. That's pretty newsworthy.

Only worry is what this will mean with new music. Hope it doesn't mean she'll release even less than she does now.

I mean, even Katy Perry (who has had 3-or-4-year gaps between albums for over the past decade) put an album out during her time on the show. Granted, CU and KP are two totally different people, but I don’t see why Carrie/her team wouldn’t use this gig as a promotional tool for her next album. But then again, they also released “Ghost Story” and “Hate My Heart” as singles instead of tracks like “Crazy Angels” and “Burn” and waited three months too late to send OOTT, so who knows. 🤷🏻♀️
Regardless of the music, I’m gonna add to the echo chamber that this is a perfect move for her at this stage of her career, and I can’t wait to see what it does for her/how she does on the show.

I have no doubt in my mind that new music and maybe a tour will follow. Could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. This has become a very popular method for artists to heighten their overall platform before new music. I’d bet money we’ll get a new album next year.

I think this is the perfect move for her if it is in fact true. I have to imagine that it becomes made official on her GMA concert series which is in a few days, which is an ABC show as well.
Only concern is how it affects new music, but she did need some type of change to put her in the spotlight after D&R.
In a perfect world it’s just a one special season, and she debuts the lead to CU8 at the end in front of the large audience, and start next era off on the correct foot.

Hoping y'all and your optimism are right because Carrie does need the career boost and it's way too early to phase her out of superstardom, but who is the last judge of a reality singing competition to revive/rebuild their career/commercial demand? Luke's been on a decline for years, Katy's comeback is not doing much (at least right now), don't think Lionel has even tried anything. Outside of Blake Shelton and the inception of The Voice I'm not sure being a judge has really done anything to significantly boost someone's singing career, or am I missing someone?
While I'm not sure if this will help her music career at all, I do think it's a great move overall career wise. It'll keep her relevant and it'll be something new for her. Genius move for Idol to get her for the gig. All kinds of great press going their way with it.
Ugh at me having to start watching Idol now for her AND The Voice for Kelsea. Gah, I don't want to give into these singing competitions again haha

Personally, I would have preferred to see her as a coach on The Voice. We'd see more intimate footage of her working closely with her team members and get a more organic feel for how she thinks as an artist and as a vocalist as she shared her insights and advised the contestants in their song choices and how to approach them. We'd get some awesome impromptu vocal moments from her too.

The only season I watched the entirety of was when Candice Glover won season 12. Guess I'll be watching season 23 lol.

Yeah i love this news, i guess i’ll have to get used to watching idol all or at least most weeks again lol And also yes, they MUST use this opportunity to lead into CU8 next summer/fall. In a perfect world, Cojo will show up on the finale so they can sing their #1 smash hit duet, and then she can also give a first performance of the lead for CU8!
In other CU news today, i am very excited to hear this version of Leave a Light On with Papa Roach. Its great song, their own version has been out for quite awhile. Pretty sure it went #1 on the rock charts. Kinda curious how countrified it will sound, if at all. I have no doubt she will absolutely shine on it.

Gah, I don't want to give into these singing competitions again haha Idol relaunched jlos music career for a couple years and gave Mariah get last hit. Beyond Blake for the voice , it also sent maroon 5 to the stratosphere . Scream and shout benefited from X factor promo for Britney when the music video debuted there .and to a degree Christina’s last chart success was when she was on the voice with your body and just a fool doing moderately. I think Keith Urbans music also got a shot in the arm as well?? These judge positions can do a lot

It’s entirely dependent on the person themselves, not strictly the ratings of these shows. Katy Perry saw several viral moments that kept her in the limelight (“Did you just say ‘wig’?”). JLo’s career absolutely saw a huge second wind when she joined Idol in Season 10. Not that she needed it, but Kelly Clarkson saw a significant surge when she joined The Voice, which I believe was one of the catalysts to her getting a talk show.
IDK what this will (or won’t) bring for her, but the fact that she’s even doing makes me optimistic, because it’s something new for her. Hopefully she can maintain a more TV-friendly personality and can shed some of her shyness.
I’m excited to see what comes of this for her!

It has been since Idol that fans have seen Carrie on TV more than once a week on a regular basis. This is a HUGE change that I don’t think some here are conceptualizing. Sure, it’s not “The Voice” so it’s less about the judges, but we’re going from 0 to 100 here in terms of regular TV and social media exposure for Carrie. Obviously ratings are far less, but that can be recaptured via social media to some extent. She’ll have her biggest opportunity since competing on Idol to show Americans who they fell in love with 20 years ago, and she can reach out to a bunch of new potential fans who’ve come of age since after her peak charting years.
Not only do I think she’ll likely use this as a platform for a new music era, but this will lend itself to viral reels and tons of media coverage. Especially at the onset when they’ll surely run the storyline “Carrie comes back home”… All why it’s silly, imo, to believe she isn’t piggybacking this all with something musical!
Also, it’s a great sign of where her mind is at to take this step … like, if she’s doing this, why stop there? Of course there will be more.

Also…I could be crazy…but do we think this means Carrie and Luke Bryan are hosting the CMA’s in November?! I mean that would be massive IDOL promo…

I don’t think so, because A- i don’t think she would even consider it again unless its with brad And B- i honestly think there is at least a little bit of bad blood between her and the CMA (She hasn’t been to the last few award shows and CMA Fests)… which could be a coincidence but i’m not so sure.

Actually, she was at the CMA Fest in 2019 but not since then and she was at the CMAs in 2022 to perform Hate My Heart and tribute to Linda Ronstadt and Alan Jackson. I think I heard she was sick for last year's CMAs.

I’m here for this! As a fan, was fun to see Carrie’s name on CNN and find out that way. : )
I hope she feels comfortable in the role and the reaction is pretty positive once it starts airing. I know how shy she can be, and she’s a total 180 from Katy. No one will please everyone. Regardless, good gig for getting her back in people’s minds.
I actually randomly watched most of last season of AI and enjoyed it much more than I thought. I’ve never been able to get into the Voice. So I’m glad she went this route personally.
Do we have an idea of the filming/airing schedule?
