I have to wonder if whatever deal they worked out with Carrie will also include some other projects with ABC/Disney. A future tour streamed on Disney+ would be really cool. Either way, this is super exciting and I think a great move for Idol and especially Carrie.

They should have her recreate the “Alone” performance at some point.

This is great for her- she is already a country music legend with one of the best voices ever in all of music. Between her clothing line, fitness app, and now being a judge on American Idol this will add another facet to her already amazing career as she is in her 40s, just as Kelly Clarkson did with The Voice and her own talkshow.
As a fan, I am looking forward to, not just seeing her a more, but getting additional solo and collaboration performances and the overall exposure to the general public.

I know Katy performed some of her songs with the contestants like "Part of Me" "By the Grace of God" "Thinking of You."
It'd be cool if Carrie dusted off some of her deep cuts and performed them with the contestants like "Don't Forget to Remember Me" "So Small" and others.

This won't have an impact on her SNF gig will it? It's because of that relationship that I thought she might ultimately go with The Voice. But, she has stated many times that her heart lies with Idol.

But, she has stated many times that her heart lies with Idol. I don't think so. They apparently already filmed this year's open. Granted I'm not an expert, but, imo, SNF airs from September to December (not including playoffs). Idol would start late February at the latest. Other than ads promoting Idol, there wouldn't be much overlap. I mean, as far as we know, it's not an overall deal like Kelly Clarkson has with NBC (Kelly' deal included The Voice and her talk show), so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm fully convinced that SNF is Carrie's gig until she wants to move on. The selfish football fan in me hopes that she continues, lol. #NoShame

I think this is great! I also hope there is a chance for some crossover effort for her. After the smash of Before He Cheats, she hasn’t had any effort like that despite having lots and lots of possibilities -well, except The Champion (meh).
On another point, I understand why, but I’m huh? at this part of the ABC article:
“Her global superstar status as the most successful 'Idol' winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show”
At least take the “global” part out to make it more credible because Kelly clearly wins in that department

If she was younger I think she’d have a chance at a hit outside of country but I think it’s too late at this point for any pop success and even hot ac would be an uphill battle because she’s not established there . Maybe hot ac if did a duet/feature with on of it’s more consistent artists

First of all I'm SUPER EXCITED Carrie is going to be a judge on American Idol. I've wanted her to be judge for a while, and I think she'll do a fabulous job and find her place there. I feel she's at the part of her career where she doesn't have anything else to prove. I do believe she'll still have some number one hits, win some awards, and tour. However, I think we're at a time when she'll do music she wants without ALWAYS having radio and awards in mind. I do think she'll have a career like Dolly and Reba and it's cool to see this part come into focus. I also think she's been working on music and she'll use Idol to promote it. What kind of music? I have no idea..maybe a duets album?! I'm really excited for Carrie and excited for all of us. Well, those who are excited lol
Also, I REALLY love her new duet with Papa Roach. They sound amazing, and it's such an important cause.

Does anyone have an idea of the filming schedule?
Maybe if she's writing/working on an album during filming she’ll try working with some new blood in LA.

I did not think this would really happen when I posted it! And now she’s actually going to be a judge on American Idol! WILD! It would be cool if she would join The Voice or American Idol next year to celebrate it being 20 years since she won!..

The fact she didn't get a standing ovation for this performance will forever bother me.

I consider myself more of a casual fan compared to others who frequent this thread, but I am actually excited for this. I haven't watched Idol in a long time but Carrie joining does make me curious enough to watch. I'll give Idol a chance this season because 1) it really is a great, full-circle moment and 2) she is genuinely one of the most qualified judges in a while.
It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. I don't think she'll be able to benefit from this in the way that someone like Kelly Clarkson would, simply because Carrie's personality/persona is quieter than someone like Kelly.
Imo her best path forward is just to simply use the built-in audience she now has at her disposal to bring attention to new music and let the material (and her artistry) speak for itself. She just needs to bring her A-game to this. Although this might be easier said than done. Imo, there is a noticeable drop in the quality of her output ever since she changed labels. While her time with Capitol has produce some stand-out tracks, I find myself re-visiting her albums with Arista far more often.
Hopefully both she and her label truly recognize what a great opportunity this is to capture new fans or re-gain old ones and really bring it.

^ I agree.
I also feel like Carrie's personality thrives where she's comfortable. I think her interviews with Jimmy Fallon (bubbly/energetic, cracking jokes) vs Ellen or Bobby Bones (removed/reserved) is a good example. Her personality is like night and day when she's comfortable; and I know she's comfortable with Ryan, she did great when she co-hosted Kelly and Ryan with him a few years ago, and she's comfortable with Luke too, so I think she'll thrive.
Ideally, this is one special season of hosting, and they launch her next era with something undeniable and somewhat reminiscent of her earlier work around the end of the season; because I do agree that a good number of her fans that checked out in recent years are still enough of a fan to check this season out.

Don’t think I’ve seen too much chatter in here about “Leave A Light On” — my God, is that song incredible. Firstly, it’s such a special tune with a beautiful message. Secondly, the two of them sound FLAWLESS together. And third of all, I’m STUNNED at Carrie’s vocal here. Her lower register in the second verse was pristine and gave me chills—I had to rewind several times to take it in as I’ve never heard her voice like that before aside from her cover of “Welcome to the Jungle,” which you honestly can’t even make out since it’s a low note in a loud live setting.
Her voice continues to age the same way she is—like a fine wine. Gonna need CU10 stat after this.

I believe this. I’m glad she ultimately chose Idol. 100% We’ve been hearing inklings and rumors for years, and not so long ago The Voice’s social media literally posted something asking fans for their thoughts on Carrie as a coach… I agree, Idol is the right choice. She gets to be the first, in a way, because Idol hasn’t had an alumni superstar on the panel aside from specific theme weeks. There's also unique promo opportunities through ABC / Disney+, which I'm sure have been worked into her contract. Not to mention the public response to this has been super positive, so that's a good sign!

I never knew Carrie was being considered as a judge for AI. It surprised me. She doesn't need the exposure. It will be interesting to see how she does. She always seems "quiet" during her interviews.
I haven't missed a single season of AI.
Wonder what they are paying her? Katy was getting $25 million a year.

This seems like a great move for her! She’s dabbled in advising contestants in previous seasons - I think it was actually Gabby Barrett who Carrie mentored, and she became a star in her own right.
Carrie could use some visibility in the mainstream media. She needs to come with a strong country-pop album while she’s on Idol.
Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to seeing her every week, and the looks she’s going to serve.
I think she’ll gel with the other judges, and likely will be the nice but honest judge. I think people underrate her personality, she always shines when doing her hosting gigs. She’s funny and cute!
