At the end of the day the performance was meant as promotion for the song, and Carrie as a performer. I think it definitely added to Carrie's legacy as a performer, though that audience already knows she puts on a great show. In terms of "Ghost Story," though, the song isn't even top 25 at iTunes so I don't think this did much for the song (even "IIDLY" got a bigger boost despite not being performed). I think it's clear "GS" just isn't going to be a huge hit for her.

Lipped or not, which it’s not, she got it done. Get that buzz, Carrie, well deserved!

Dubbed, mimed, lip-synced, live, I don't care. She sounded phenomenal either way and she tried something new which I thought worked out well. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

I would rather her stand in front of a mic and not move a muscle than lipsync. She’s the best singer in country music. I don’t need to see her flip around. Super disappointing.

After all the discourse, I just watched this again trying to find anything that doesn't match up and I really don't think it's a lipped performance. If so, she got me. The aerial part may be minimally dubbed (the pull-back stands out), but it all matches up perfectly.
Carrie's so extremely fit, has delivered countless flawless live vocals, clearly has lungs for days, and has talked many times about how she only records songs she can sing live, because that's important to her that she can deliver a vocal that matches the recording. And I think she achieved that here.

Carrie did a phenomenal job! It was incredibly unexpected for her, and she did it well while looking incredibly beautiful with great form (the spins and the pointed toes). P!nk didn’t invent silk performances but she did popularize them and it kind of became her schtick, other female performers have done (tried) silk like Katy Perry performing Wide Awake.
Carrie doing this at the Grammys would’ve furthered the P!nk comparisons since she did her first major silk performance at the Grammys to Glitter in the Air.
Anyway, Carrie did an amazing job, and people picking apart her outfit? Come on.
As far as I’m concerned, the unexpected-ness of this is what made it truly a great performance (along with her sounding amazing). It would be like the equivalent of Britney Spears belting out a song better than what most people expect of her.

I’m probably going crazy, but I really think she sang live. I hear some notes that are off.

They only thing I think that could be happening here is that since Carrie is in Vegas, she filmed this multiple times and they put it all together like Bey at the Oscars? Personally, I think she was live though.

It was only filmed like 3 weeks ago. I expect an American Idol debut in May.
Speaking of the video, she said it’s different from anything she’s ever done before.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more acrobatics in the video. I doubt Carrie went through the process of learning all that to only do it once. I also half expect to see the CMT performance incorporated into her future residency shows…

Considering it was advertised as live from the venue where she performs her residency, it seems like it’s a part of her show.

I’m probably going crazy, but I really think she sang live. I hear some notes that are off. You and I both. I’ve been rewatching this non stop. Because I’m obsessed with it. I went to bed last night and played GS a few times before falling asleep, after watching the performance a few times. One thing I noticed that convinced me of what most of us already know was the line “at the bottom of the bottle in the dark”. Live, you hear the microphone feedback on those consonants ‘b’ and ‘d’ rather harshly - like you would during a live performance. On the recording, these moments throughout the song are softened. Also, the ending note during the performance was held out in full voice with vibrato, whereas the recording has an abrupt “ghost story”, which ends almost in a whisper. I’m just glad this performance is doing its job, generating buzz and publicity leading into the album launch. The song may not make a huge splash on radio, but CP didn’t either and still served the album well as the lead.

I wish the outfit she wore at the CMT Awards was the one on the album cover, something long and flowing behind suits the vibe of the lead single at least rather than a skirt. I thought her performance there was much stronger than the Grammy’s one, but naturally she’ll get better every time she does it.

The album is called Denim & Rhinestones, so she wore denim & rhinestones on the cover.

I was just going to post this! I don't need all this flashy performance stuff. Just sing! I know people on here don't care for Jessica Simpson, but her Reality Tour was perfect, no flashy stuff and she sang her butt off. Carrie only needs to do that!

She has plenty of time to do an acoustic, toned down tour in the future. She’s currently promoting a sold-out Vegas residency with the biggest production value of her career. It makes more sense to lean into that. It sets her apart from country artists and honestly most pop artists too.

Maybe next era even.

Didn't we have many recent performances from My Gift/My Saviour era where she just stood there and sang?
Can't she try anything new?
I would love an acoustic tour too, but clearly it won't be suitable for this era.

I also have to laugh when people complain about Carrie’s music not being country when Grammy award winning MY SAVIOR is by far the most traditionally country album she’s ever recorded.
Anyway, she posted a TikTok of the performance with the following caption: “This was such a rush. Let’s do it again!” Aerialistarrie ❤️

I wonder what kind of theatrics the Queen of Vegas is gonna bring to the CMA Fest? Another beautiful aerial performance would be incredible; I wonder how that’d work in an outdoor venue or if it even would.

Is "GS" doing well or no? I've seen some imply it isn't doing well, but country radio seems slow these days. It is #33 in its 4th week on Billboard Country Airplay. Miranda/Elle hit #1 on that chart in their 46th week lol. That is of course wild, but Keith Urban is #10 in his 34th week so slow climbs are common now. Maren is #18 in her 14th week, while Miranda's current solo single is #17 in its 26th week. "GS" is the newest song in the top 35, apart from Kelsea debuting top 25 with a new song (which is what "GS" did its first week).

“Wasted” “Ghost Story” “Blame It On Your Heart” (Patty Loveless cover) “Nothing But The Blood of Jesus” “Something in the Water”
Such a great set. Her voice is sounding as impressive as ever.

The #1 BB200 ain't coming now that BTS just announced their 'comeback' for the same day, June 10th... Didn't they release an album the same day Cry Pretty came out too?

Nice on Carrie doing a Patty Loveless cover as I love her, but I didn't care for her on "BIOYH." I'd love to hear Carrie do "Nothin' But the Wheel" or one of Patty's ballads, though.
