Any big standout vocal moments on this album? She does a big note in "Velvet Heartbreak" and "Poor Everybody Else" but that's about it. She really toned down the vocals for this album (which isn't necessarily a bad thing but of course I could always go for big vocal moments).

I can’t get I’ve Wanted Woman. So good. Also, surprised at all the love for Garden… to my ear it’s the only miss.

I have a weird stance on this album. It's really not for me in terms of what I love from Carrie, which is big vocals especially on Power ballads. That said, I understand we have a lot of that from her in the entirety of her catalog, so even though it's not for me, I'm still so PROUD of her. This album is undeniably her, it's the most cohesive album she's ever done and she really does sound better than ever. Same here. Not super enthused so far. And CD's have become obsolete so it's not surprising people can't find them in stores.

I wish Ghost Story and Hate My Heart aren't placed at Tracks #3 and #4.
Disrupts the flow of my favourites lol. Tracks #1-#2, #5-#12 are on repeats for me.
Garden finally clicked for me. Beautiful lyrics.

I need to give the album a few more listens to solidify things, but it’s definitely pleasant listening so far. Tbh, kinda bummed out that the vast majority of the album is uptempo or mid-tempo. I was hoping for one or two ballads, but if this album is Carrie’s “fun” album, then it might not have fit.
Standouts so far: Velvet Heartbreak, Wanted Woman, Poor Everybody Else, She Don’t Know.
I can also hear the 80s rock influences in this too, especially in “Poor Everybody Else.”
Still puzzled why they chose GH as the lead single with all these great earworms to pick from.

Was about dismissing Garden as not for for me until: If you reap what you sow, what kind of garden would you grow Hold on while I go rethink my life again! Why is it always the last track of Carrie albums that get people to ponder and think?

“Garden” is so beautiful. It’s the song I needed after this past week, I know my Oma would’ve loved the song, and it speaks to her life so well. She gave nothing but love, and passed with a family who worshipped her like a queen and tons of chosen family and friends. We literally had to put a cap on the number of people for tomorrow’s celebration afterwards; at 81 her garden was full of love and peace. ❤️

I’ll have to listen a few more times but so far my favorites are all the prelease tracks along with Hate My Heart, Burn, Pink Champagne, Wanted Woman.

Amazon f**ked me and never delivered my CD, as scheduled. They're claiming it will still arrive today but it's been in the same city as me since 4 AM, according to the tracker. The driver is probably upset he couldn't find it at the local Wal-Mart and decided to steal mine. More power to him!
Edit: The update has it arriving between the 11th and 15th now...yet it is IN A FACILITY IN MY CITY. The fvck??
Anyway, since it's getting late, I figured it was time to crack it open on Apple Music. Sounds glorious in Atmos, p.s. Also, her concert is gonna DESTROY ME. I am going to have to take it easy so I can make sure I have the energy to stand up that long in GA, LOL. I feel like this is her official pop album, or maybe as pop as she feels comfortable getting, which is cool. She Don't Know kinda seems like a sonic outlier to me because it is so DISTINCTLY country. I ain't mad at all. I will always thank Carrie for giving me Low, her best song to date, but I appreciate D&R for such an expertly made album with no skips. Honestly, I can see my top 8 flipping all over the place because all of these songs are fantastic and strong on their own, but being put on the same album? Whew. Carrie is out for blood. I hope this album gets all the recognition it deserves. It should not be relegated to cult/fan classic.
My Ranking: Poor Everyone Else (C'MONNNNNN! I AM SLAYYYYYED! If she opens with this song live, she can sing Hey Diddle Diddle for the rest of the show and I've gotten my money's worth) Pink Champagne (whewww. a crossover classic) Faster (a MASTERPIECE) Wanted Woman (a pop masterpiece. not a trace of country to be found, but I love it) Burn (yesssss!) Crazy Angels Velvet Heartbreak Ghost Story Denim & Rhinestones She Don't Know Hate My Heart (damn, even Apple Music pays this song dust! I had to look it up on Youtube and tack it on the end of my listening experience (though it wound up being down the bottom anyway, but yeah, wtf Apple Music? Y'all Ghost Story stans?) Garden

I’ll be back Sunday night to post my rankings and single predictions after letting the songs soak in. But I just have to say Burn is the quintessential Carrie song!!! Everything about it just screams Carrie. It’s like every one of her albums melded into one song. So so so good! And so so so so Carrie!

“Faster” seriously is everything. It’s so sleek and glossy and perfectly blends nostalgia pop with modern.
I mean… I’m digesting this record and really am so, so thrilled with it. She should be so proud! What a fun, energetic listen, the whole way through. Just excellent.

^ What I love about "Faster" is that they really went all in with the 80s/90s production. Not just dipping their toes with some retro influence. I was so pleasantly surprised and impressed.
Such a gorgeous and sweet love song. It's becoming my most-played track so far!
I guess no hope of it becoming a single, unless it appears in a movie soundtrack.

It’s funny that the weakest song in the album is the lead single and it’s still considered a great song.

PC got the playlisting treatment on Apple Music but very interesting to see PEE and Garden as early fan favorites (#taste). Usually, for new releases, the opening tracks are the most popular ones; obviously this can change as the week progresses but excited to see fans taking hold to PEE so quickly. Her musical director should be fired if he doesn’t ensure it’s the opener for every show!

Anybody else's Apple Music playing Ghost Story instead of Hate My Heart? Yup. Some kinda glitch. Hope it's fixed soon.

This is the first Carrie Underwood album where I'm not feeling it. All of the songs are plain. The only ones that stand out are Faster and the promo singles. It all just blurs together as average listening. Disappointing album.

I loved Cry Pretty and the new path that I felt like it set her on and D&R keeps her on that path and actually improves on it. Unlike her previous efforts, I have no idea what direction they will go in for singles, even though I love to guess. There are so many options here! PEE is a career highlight.
My ranking: 1. Poor Everyone Else 2. Pink Champagne 3. Denim & Rhinestones 4. Garden 5. Burn 6. Velvet Heartbreak 7. Crazy Angels 8. Faster 9. She Don’t Know 10. Hate My Heart 11. Faster 12. Ghost Story
My single choices: 2. Crazy Angels 3. Pink Champagne 4. Burn

Yeah, I don’t get that criticism. Everything isn’t for everybody, but I feel like there’s a ton of character shown over the course of the album - lyrically, melodically, vocally.
Anyway, “Garden” was my least favorite on first listen, but it’s actually really evocative when you take in the lyrics. The way she sings the bridge is one of my favorite moments on the album.

I've given the album a few more listens and its starting to grow on me. It's still not her strongest album by any means but its listenable.

Burn is giving me major Chaser vibes. Maybe that’s why I love it so much.

Velvet Heartbreak would be a crossover summer smash a la Kid Rock back in the 2010s. It’s that good.

Does Hate My Heart remind anyone else of Maren's last album?
That song doesn't get enough love. It's kind of great.

“Crazy Angels,” “Pink Champagne,” and “Burn” are the album tracks in the iTunes Top 200.
That’s a strong lineup of potential singles. Throw in “Velvet Heartbreak” and I’d be happy.

Y’all I’m crying at “Garden” right now. It struck me deep in my core. What a beautiful song from a beautiful person.
