Anyway, moving on to things that actually have to do with Carrie…not to make light of Jason’s wife having absolute trash opinions and thoughts. But I’m not seeing this much vitriol in the Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, or Kelsea Ballerini threads or fandoms. So, in the spirit of trying to change the subject to something more pleasant, does this mean we’re on the verge of some news?!

So, I took about three weeks away from listening to the album. Returned to it today to see if my opinions on anything had changed or evolved. Nope. My favorites are still my favorites: "Burn," "Velvet Heartbreak," and "She Don't Know." What did become crystal clear is that, in my opinion, "She Don't Know" is the best song on the album. "Burn" is a close second, but for me it's "She Don't Know." I sincerely hope it gets a release. It's not belted or anything like that, which to some may make it underwhelming. But it is undeniably country. Her phrasing and storytelling are on point. And, it's catchy as hell.

Funny you mention belting though, as the 2:07-2:18 belts are my least favourite part of the song, as I feel like it gets a bit loud in general. I touched on this a bit when we were discussing songs we wished were released for each album, but I think it would have been a smart career move (granted she's doing just fine) to have released one traditional leaning song each album.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Carrie had "She Don't Know" out the same time as Miranda has out "Geraldene?" If Miranda is thinking smart, she's already reached out to Dolly for a cameo on a remix release to radio. I prefer "She Don't Know" but both are really good.

Give me Velvet Heartbreak as a single dammit. Just too good. Yes please!! I think it’ll be just like Dirty Laundry though and will be single #4. We’ll get Crazy Angels and Burn as the next two (Church Bells, Heartbeat) after Ghost Story (the Smoke Break-kinda single that didn’t quite connect the way the label wanted and then gets followed up by two big hits!) This logic may only make sense in my head haha but I see this era being very similar to Storyteller

I would not be shocked if there is her first main album to not get a fourth single. Country radio is so slow now

I would not be shocked if there is her first main album to not get a fourth single. Country radio is so slow now I'm just still confused as to who this benefits; maybe songwriters because they're getting a lot of royalties off the long term plays? But it's weird because resources get wasted on people who don't deserve it. Brett Young, for instance, can't sell an album or concert ticket to save his life. It's not going to help Humble Quest or Denim & Rhinestones in the long run to eke out a top 10 airplay hit. Who is actually benefitting from this trend of slow chart runs from a bottom line perspective?

I don’t think anyone really benefits. Outside of radio having something something “safe” they can play that they know doesn’t offend their audience, because they’ve done such extensive “research” to not let a song get to higher levels of airplay until they have enough research returned.
That and I guess to another extent artists get to have songs with artificially higher peaks, when a lot of the songs making it to the top 5/top 10 or even #1, probably had a natural peak of a lot less, maybe more inside the top 30.

Obviously at end of the day it's a business, so money needs to be made. It's just weird labels are not only letting this happen, but contributing; outside of Wallen, Combs, and 1-2 others, who is coming out profiting? That's why I am so confused.

Let’s face it, album sales are garbage now, especially in country. If Carrie can manage 2-3 top 10 country radio hits out of this, I would call it a success and move on. The key here is building that radio momentum for future singles. I also think the tour starting here soon will help as well, especially if GS finally peaks and they push out single #2.

Why is that the key? Radio means hardly anything anymore. The key should be releasing good music (check), selling out concerts (check) and improving her streaming numbers (needs work). If the key to Carrie moving forward is radio success, her label (and her) and stuck in the early 2000s.

Vinyl being a webstore exclusive truly cannot be helping her sales numbers. Every major artist (including Carrie usually) is on the shelf at Target and Walmart! It cuts the visibility of this album by quite a bit! Even her deluxe Christmas album had its own vinyl everywhere. I don’t get it.

I honestly think her team needs to work on streaming. Half the reason her numbers are so poor is due to poor playlisting, and poor positioning in the few playlists she's in. I do think radio is important, because that is a big audience as well, but their main goal needs to be streaming.

If she had multiple colors of vinyl for the album available, she could have a lot larger sales numbers.

The issue is that Carrie’s team seems to be using an outdated plan when it comes to singles and promotion. Most of Carrie’s diehard fans aren’t massive streamers and still prefer the physical CDs. Maybe Carrie needs to consider changing her entire PR team and get one that can adapt to streaming and what’s happening in 2022, rather than 2005.

Radio means nothing to the majority of music listeners nowadays. Zilch. The faster CU fans can acknowledge and accept that, the better. Stream and purchase her music. She doesn’t need country radio to promote her name (which is what radio was always incredibly important for — helping break new artists and solidify their names in listeners’ regular rotations).

Also I think if she did limited editions of vinyls or other merch (better designed) like TS and her team do I think that would also help as well!

So I spent my evening watching the “Blown Away Tour:Live!” On Amazon Prime. What an incredible show! She is clearly just in a league all her own and has been for well over a decade!
P.S. I need single #2 to be Burn, VH, HMH, or SDK!

The week ending Mediabase positions for "Ghost Story" the last 2-3 months:
June 26 - #13 July 3 - #12 July 10 - #11 July 17 - #11 July 24 - #12 July 31 - #11 August 7 - #11 August 14 - #9 August 21 - #9 August 28 - #9 September 4 - #9
It hasn't yet cracked the top 10 on Billboard's Country Airplay; it was #11 last week and a new chart will come out tomorrow.

Spending that many weeks right around the top 10 isn’t a bad thing. I mean, obviously it makes no dent in sales since there haven’t been any sales. But if top 10-ish airplay generates next to no buzz/sales, I hardly think a heavily manipulated #1 would change much at all. She’s booked for radio interviews late next week, so I think any final push is coming mid-month. I think we’ll be done with this by October; the month where a song called “Ghost Story” could’ve actually made a dent… lol.
Why they didn’t lead with any other track on this album is beyond me… she could’ve totally had a summer smash, but instead we’ve watched a Halloween song move at a hayride’s speed for the better part of a year.

Ghost Story has officially scooted it's way into the BB top 10. Her BB chart history just updated confirming it.

Thank god this hit top 10 finally. That was the bare minimum of my expectations based on how slow this was moving. If they can snag a top 5 finish, then I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Ready for single 2!

Carrie is nominated for CMA Entertainer, Female Vocalist, and Event (with Jason). Not a bad showing overall, and happy to see there’s still a push for her to win EOTY. I believe this is Carrie’s fifth nomination for EOTY; 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Morgan Wallen is nominated for EOTY, and I wonder how that will impact the votes. We’ll see in November!
