It's behaving exactly like Blinding Lights and Levitating. It's a new consumer pattern and will become more common. STAY and Heat Waves will also behave like that, even if their runs don't quite get caught up with the next Xmas takeover and subsequent recovery. As for the new Weeknd singles - no one cares. There's a reason the Greatest Hits is outselling the new album. Heat Waves is a bit different, as it is a hit from a new (to the general public) artist without even a thought of follow up becoming a hit in its own right. They can simply keep it on rotation until forever if they want, and man, they DO want. I'm pretty sure it'll reach 100 weeks on Hot 100. |

Golden was the best single on Fine Line. That should have been the lead single instead of Lights Up. Such a shame that radio dropped Golden prematurely.

I feel that context with positions and weeks is just as important when talking about whether a song is a "flop" or not. This is America didn't last 20 weeks on the charts but I doubt you'd call it a flop giving the insane numbers on YouTube and streaming it had during it's peak. Same with All Too Well. You can point at things like it spending 15 weeks on the charts and not spending that much time in the Top 50 but during its first week it had 54M points on streaming. Thats literally double the streams of the second song on streaming that week (Smokin Out the Window) and it also had double the sales of Easy On Me that week. Yes it was number for a week but it was a strong number one that week, no song would topple it. Maybe "flop" isn't the right word but in the streaming era, you can't categorize something as a success just based off it's first week performance. That's very reckless. Was it a success in that first week when it smashed above and beyond anything else out at that point in time? Absolutely. But when you consider a month, 3-month, 6-month, or one year span and everything that gets released (and endures) in that time, is that still a success? Not so much. That's why Billboard's year-end/all-time charts paint the best picture for what true success is. Longevity should ALWAYS be rewarded imo because it's very hard to get people to continually care about/support something over several weeks/months. I completely agree that when one/two-week monster smash hits come along, they should be praised and recognized for their dominance in that/those week/weeks, but beyond that, they should also be recognized for exactly what they were: flash-in-the-pan releases that went just as quickly as they came. Both things can hold true. I realize all of what you're saying, but we also have to realize that ATW was a completely unique situation, given that it wasn't at all an official radio-promoted single, that it was a 10-minute 9 year-old fan-favorite deep cut, so what it did for the type of song it was was rather impressive and you can't really lump it together with most other songs. |

The SYT run is beginning to look really fishy. Before the holiday break, SYT was falling, with its tail end of the run 17-22-26-31-38-41-off. Yet, months later, this song is holding steady in the 16-20 range, with more than 10 weeks in the Top 25. This is despite Abel already moving on from the project and releasing 2 (and about to become 3) singles from his next album. 21-22-22-21-21-[RC]-[RC]-[RC]-18-19-20-19-19-18-18-19-20-17-17 It's actually been very consistent when you take things into context, with its pace up after its re-entry owing to countdown season boosting its radio presence right around the time Blinding Lights is getting phased out, proxy attention from the new project, and stability while the confused rollout has had said project's singles eating each other. Wow the definition of consistency! |

This is really just a matter of which old ass song gonna be replacing another old ass song Funnily enough, Woman and Bad Habits were released on the same day, and BH would probably be the song that Woman would replace |

Thereβs a ton of new Hip Hop/R&B/Country/Dance tracks every week but since Pulse isnβt so centric around that (unless it crossovers or is straight up pop), people on here would say that thereβs barely any new music and everything is dead still. As for the charts, streaming really needs to be weighted more at this point if we want a more interesting chart. |

Weighing streaming more wonβt do much with songs like Levitating and SYT, which are still very high up there on that metric. I think strengthening the recurrent rules is the best way to do this without hurting the integrity of the chart. May need to make it recurrent below 25 at 40 weeks and possibly below 15 at 52 weeks. Under these thresholds, Levitating, SYT, and G4u would be already be recurrent, with Fancy Like going recurrent next week, You Right in 3 weeks, and Sand In My Boots in 5 weeks. Do we really need these songs to stay up to an extra 12 weeks? |

^ well do we want a chart where the GP has half control of what is the most popular songs of the week or where the GP almost has full control? I donβt expect a Rolling Stone cloned chart, but even that chart wouldnβt ever get as static as Billboard is right now. Radio can still be a thing as its of course still a metric of popular music consumption, but getting weighed less to the point where it doesnβt stagnate a songβs position is definitely a lot more preferable than what is happening right now. For example Knife Talk being at #7 on Spotify and #21 on AM but at #47 on Billboard (#42 without Lil Durk), doesnβt make sense the same way Bad Habits is high on radio alone and is in the top 10.

Knife Talk was #26 in Streaming Songs last week with no showing on Digital or Radio Songs. Estimates had it at under 1,000 of the former and under 5m of the latter, nominal numbers, so a #47 showing on the Hot 100 absolutely makes sense.
