What was the "34+35" remix controversy? I'm not sure there was a controversy? Other than the fact said remix was plummeting everywhere by the end of the tracking week, and it was clear it would be a 1-week thing. It still had majority of consumption that week but that remix was a large fluke. Tbh Billboard should just have a set rule where a remix mid-run has to be outdoing the original for 3~ weeks or something before a credit is changed. The exception being if a remix is initially pushed to radio (Bad Blood, E.T., Levitating). That way a credit is given when remixes legitimately are popular and not just a one week fan campaign.

If I remember correctly, about 3-4 weeks after the remix (I believe it was the week after Super Bowl LV), there was a video for the remix, which pushed 34+35 back to its #2 peak. I think there was a controversy in the crediting for that week.

23 weeks is not that much any more lol I’d say it still is. It’s just more common than it used to be. Isn’t it Adele’s longest running top ten? And if anyone has monster hits, it’s her. 23 isn't record setting or anything, but it's still big. Of 2021 songs, only 6 (Levitating, SYT, KMM, g4u, STAY, and Bad Habits) have hit that mark. If you count up the weeks spent in the top ten of all songs in the top ten in a given week, we've seen an average of about 11 weeks for a song in that region to have spent there over the last year.

Big Energy's success irks me ngl. Not even that it's bad - it's fine - or that I don't like Latto. It's just that compared to other female rap hits, more than any od them, this one feels manufactured. And it's not just the expensive sample or the fact that it's radio has been and continues to be bigger than its streaming. But that it's obviously a pop rap song with Latto in the role, you couldve had any other competent female rapper do this song and sadly nothing much would change. Her other songs don't sound like this and its disappointing her biggest hit is not a song that taps into the southern appeal of her songs, something closer to her style
And she's not the first act I've had these feelings on, I still have this criticism with Doja but at least with Doja, she's got better pop instincts and will have her weirder personality shine through. Whereas this just feels like an attempt to make another Say So.

She literally spells it out here. I thought it would flop when it dropped, full disclosure…and it did til radio got on board. Hell, it didn’t even chart on Streaming Songs til this week! Ultimately good for her though, it worked and it’s a cute song. 1 question tho - does “Big Energy” even feel like that big of a hit to y’all? To me, it DEFINITELY doesn’t feel like a #3, or hell even a #11 like it was last week. It feels like a non-event outside of airplay.

I’ll mention this in the Funny Chart Coincidences thread if it stays this way, but as of now, three different songs that sample Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club have peaked in each of the top 3 positions of the Hot 100.
#1 Fantasy - Mariah Carey feat. Ol’ Dirty Bastard (1995) #2 Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison (1997) #3 Big Energy - Latto (2022)

It feels like a non-event outside of airplay. It's a crossover at various different radio formats (Urban, Rhythmic, and Pop) so it has felt like a pretty decent hit. She also does have an online following. As you said, it's not that big in consumption so #3 does very high. It kinda would seem like it'd have a peak/run similar to Ellie Goulding "Close To Me" (#21 Hot 100 peak, #2 on Pop | #1 on HAC) or maybe Dua's "Break My Heart" (#13 Hot 100 peak, #1 on Pop | #2 on HAC | #4 on AC). Just goes to show the situation with the Hot 100 right now.

Let’s not forget that I Hope and Go Crazy peaked at #3, and those songs were certainly not really that big in consumption.

I would be surprised if anyone has actually voluntarily listened to that song. I think it's just radio + chart environment that made it so "huge." In a normal climate, I doubt this song would have even been a top 40 hit.

Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ Rules Hot 100 For Fifth Week, Latto’s ‘Big Energy’ Leaps to No. 3 Plus, "Enemy" becomes Imagine Dragons' fourth top-five Hot 100 hit. By Gary Trust 04/4/2022 Glass Animals‘ “Heat Waves” burns bright atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the fifth week. Four weeks earlier, it completed a record 59-week climb to No. 1. Meanwhile, Latto soars to her first Hot 100 top 10, as “Big Energy” blasts from No. 11 to No. 3. Plus, Imagine Dragons and JID‘s “Enemy” enters the Hot 100’s top five, rising 7-5. The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay, and sales data. All charts (dated April 9, 2022) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (April 5). For all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. “Heat Waves,” released on Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic Records, drew 65.1 million radio airplay audience impressions and 14.8 million U.S. streams (down 2% in each metric) and sold 2,800 downloads (down 3%) in the March 25-31 tracking week, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. The single, the first Hot 100 entry for the British quartet, adds a fourth week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart; keeps at its No. 3 high on Streaming Songs; and drops 20-24 on Digital Song Sales, where it reached No. 13. Solo-written No. 1s for 10 weeks: Notably, songs each authored by a single writer have topped the Hot 100 for 10 consecutive weeks. Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley wrote “Heat Waves,” which succeeded the five-week Encanto ensemble No. 1 “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. (See more on the latter anthem below.) The 10-week streak of the Hot 100’s top spot being held by solo-written songs is the longest since Pharrell ruled for 10 weeks in March-May 2014 with his self-penned “Happy.” (The longest such streak in the Hot 100’s 63-year history? 17 straight weeks in August-November 1994, thanks to two No. 1s: Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories’ ” Stay ,” written by Loeb [three weeks on top], and Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You,” authored by Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds [14].)
Bayley, Miranda, Richie & Lennon: Meanwhile, “Heat Waves” and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” mark the first set of solo-written songs to top the Hot 100 consecutively for at least five weeks each in over 41 years. The pair is the first since Kenny Rogers’ “Lady,” written by Lionel Richie, ruled for six weeks and John Lennon’s self-written “(Just Like) Starting Over” (a posthumous No. 1 for the legend) led for five frames in November 1980-January 1981.
Bests by British groups: Plus, with its fifth week atop the Hot 100, “Heat Waves” becomes one of only nine No. 1s by British groups to reign for at least that long in the chart’s archives (with five involving Paul McCartney, via The Beatles or Wings). The song boasts the longest command by a British group since UB40’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” which led for seven weeks in 1993.
Longest-Leading Hot 100 No. 1s by British Groups Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1 9, “Hey Jude,” The Beatles, Sept. 28, 1968 8, “Every Breath You Take,” The Police, July 9, 1983 8, “Night Fever,” Bee Gees, March 18, 1978 7, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” UB40, July 24, 1993 7, “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” The Beatles, Feb. 1, 1964 5, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals, March 12, 2022 5, “Silly Love Songs,” Wings, May 22, 1976 5, “Get Back,” The Beatles (with Billy Preston), May 24, 1969 5, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” The Beatles, April 4, 1964
(The Bee Gees were born on the Isle of Man and moved to the U.K. proper, Australia, and back to the U.K.; The Police and Wings featured British frontmen and British and American members.)
Among all British acts (duo/groups and soloists), Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” (featuring American Bruno Mars) and Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997″/”Something About the Way You Look Tonight” share the longest Hot 100 domination: 14 weeks each, in 2015 and 1997-98, respectively.
“Heat Waves” concurrently rules the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, both of which use the same multi-metric methodology as the Hot 100, for a 28th week each.
The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” holds at No. 2 on the Hot 100, after seven weeks at No. 1. It keeps at No. 2 on Radio Songs (61.5 million, up 2%) and lifts 8-7 on Streaming Songs (11 million, down 2%). As the track has spent all 38 of its weeks on the Hot 100 in the top 10, dating to its entrance at No. 3 on the July 24, 2021, chart, it ties Post Malone’s “Circles” for the longest consecutive run in the top 10 from a debut; “Circles” logged its first 38 weeks on the list in the tier in 2019-20.
“Stay” further spends a record-extending 14th week at No. 2 on the Hot 100; 21st week in the top two; and 23rd week in the top three.
Latto leaps to her first Hot 100 top 10, as “Big Energy” vaults 11-3. It jumps 5-2 on Digital Song Sales (12,900, up 146%) and 7-6 on Radio Songs (52.7 million, up 8%) and debuts at No. 14 on Streaming Songs (9.5 million, up 36%), as it triples up with the Hot 100’s top Airplay, Sales and Streaming Gainer awards. (It’s the first song to sweep all three honors in a single week since Adele’s “Easy on Me,” following its first full week of tracking, atop the Oct. 30, 2021, chart.)
“Big Energy” bounds following the March 25 release of Latto’s second LP, 777, and the March 28 arrival of the song’s remix with Mariah Carey featuring DJ Khaled. (Carey and DJ Khaled are not listed on “Big Energy” on the Hot 100, as the remix did not account for the majority of the song’s overall consumption during the tracking week.) Carey sings a portion of her 1995 eight-week No. 1 “Fantasy” in the remix; both songs interpolate Tom Tom Club’s classic “Genius of Love,” which hit No. 31 on the Hot 100 in April 1982.
“I fell in love with the beat,” Latto told Billboard in November of reimagining “Genius of Love” as “Big Energy.” “It’s so catchy. I knew it would bring a new audience and fanbase to my career.”
“Big Energy” concurrently surges to No. 1 on the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, becoming Latto’s first leader on each list.
Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin” dips to No. 4 from its No. 3 Hot 100 high and Imagine Dragons and JID’s “Enemy” advances 7-5. Imagine Dragons notch their fourth top-five Hot 100 hit (among five top 10s), following “Radioactive” (No. 3, July 2013); “Believer” (No. 4, August 2017); and “Thunder” (No. 4, December 2017). Rapper/singer JID earns his first top-five hit on the chart.
Justin Bieber’s “Ghost” slips to No. 6 from its No. 5 Hot 100 high and GAYLE’s “abcdefu” falls 4-7, after reaching No. 3.
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” from Encanto, descends 6-8 on the Hot 100 after, as noted above, five weeks at No. 1, the longest reign ever for a song from a Disney film. The track, by Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz, and the Encanto Cast, all singing as the characters that they voice in the movie, tops Streaming Songs for a 13th week (18.6 million, down 4%), tying for the sixth-longest rule since the chart began in January 2013.
Lil Nas X’s “Thats What I Want” retreats to No. 9 from its No. 8 Hot 100 best and Doja Cat’s “Woman” backtracks to No. 10 a week after reaching the top 10, at No. 9. “Woman” concurrently crowns the multi-metric Hot R&B Songs chart for a fifth week.
Again, for all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram and all charts (dated April 9), including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh on Billboard.com tomorrow (April 5).

No but Stay doesn't feel like it should be in the top 10 anymore either so going by the very low standards of the year 2022 I can pretty easily accept Big Energy as one of the ten biggest songs right now tbh we should just put Bad Romance at #1 has it ever really lost its awe inspiring power?

Yahritza y Su Esencia’s Debut Single ‘Soy El Único’ Flies to No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, Top 20 on Hot 100 At 15 years old, singer Yahritza becomes the youngest Latin performer to enter the Hot 100.
YYahritza y Su Esencia score their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, as the band’s debut single “Soy El Único” opens in the top slot on the April 9-dated ranking. The band also earns its first Billboard Hot 100 entry as the song bows at No. 20. Fifteen-year-old lead singer Yahritza marks a historic feat, becoming the youngest Latin performer to enter the all-genre tally.
“It is one of the greatest achievements in my young age and more than that, it is a reminder that we can all achieve our dreams.” Yahritza tells Billboard.
Inspo & Perreo: 4 Motivational Speeches Bad Bunny Gave at 'El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo' “Soy El Único” trades places on Hot Latin Songs with Becky G and Karol G’s “Mamiii,” which slides 2-1 after it banked six consecutive weeks in charge.
The Mexican-American outfit, comprised of 24-year-old Armando (or Mando) on guitar, 17-year-old bassist Jairo, and 15-year-old vocalist Yahritza, was born in Yakima, Wash., to Michoacán parents. The band’s musical career took off after Ramón Ruiz (Lumbre Music) found Yahritza’s videos on TikTok.
“Soy El Único,” the last of the ensemble’s projects, also went viral on the social network.
“This means the world to us, to be able to achieve this on our first release,” Armando Martinez, the oldest of the Martinez siblings and the group’s 12-string guitarist, adds. “It’s crazy to think but the song opened doors to much more than we could imagine. It feels great having a solid team behind us that are always there.”
The sad sireño tune earned 13.97 million U.S. streams after its first tracking week, ending in March 31, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. The song received its official release on March 25. The high figure prompts a No. 4 start on the overall Streaming Songs chart and No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs. On the former, it’s the highest start for a Latin act since Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni” launched at No. 2 in June 2021.
“Soy” concurrently benefits from 4,000 downloads sold in the same tracking week, enough to yield a No. 1 debut on Latin Digital Song Sales and No. 14 on the overall Digital Song Sales tally.
“Honestly, when I wrote the song it was like putting myself in the shoes of the people I watched on TikTok who were going through sad episodes in their lives,” Yahritza muses. “I thought they could identify with what I write. For me it has always been connecting with others”
Highest Start for a Regional Mexican Song on Billboard Hot 100: In line with its Hot Latin Songs arrival, “Soy” also debuts at No. 20 on the all-genre Hot 100 chart, the latest of the wave of regional Mexican songs that have visited the survey since May 2021. With its No. 20 debut, “Soy” becomes the highest-ranked regional Mexican title and first to reach the top 40. Its predecessors include Gera MX and Christian Nodal’s “Botella Tras Botella” (No. 60 debut and peak, May 8, 2021); Ivan Cornejo’s “Está Dañada” (No. 61-peaked, Oct. 23); and Grupo Firme’s “Ya Supérame (En Vivo Desde Culiacán, Sinaloa)” (No. 91 high, Nov. 13)
Youngest Latin Act to Enter Billboard Hot 100: At 15 years old, Yahritza becomes the youngest regional Mexican act to notch an entry on the all-genre ranking. She overthrows Ivan Cornejo, who secured his first entry at 17 years old.
Back on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs, “Soy” is just the second song to open at the summit in 2022. Notably, two other female acts took the lead previously: Becky G and Karol G’s “Mamiii” (No. 1 debut, Feb. 26-dated survey).
“Wow, it’s such a privilege to follow their footsteps, especially because they are both grand women who inspire me greatly,” Yahritza adds. “I hope I get to be as big as them one day. I saw that Becky G started following me on Instagram and honestly, it feels nice.”

"Heat Waves" being in this group feels like a crime Ooh yeah I mean I like Heat Waves but seeing it in a grouping dominated by The Beatles and also include some other all-time classics like Every Breath You Take and Night Fever is a bit...

"Heat Waves" being in this group feels like a crime For milennials, Heat Waves is the only real music here, so everything is relative, also The Beatles, Police and Bee Gees were as much about music as well about sexual energy of boy groups, so in that sense Glass Animals might be the nerdest group in this list, which means the music is priority. If we are talking about real crimes is that songs are STAYING in the top part of the charts one or even two years, so the system is killing the music geneally...

Debuts weren't announced because of Billboard's bracket poll thing doing its finals this evening, so I might be missing some debuts that were uncheckable (one had to be filled in from the article posted earlier in the thread, since Yahritza y su Esencia have a dummy artist page on the site).

LOL - Not understanding the big problem with this list.
Among all the other statistics that come up here that compares songs across eras this can actually be taken 1-1 in my opinion. 5 weeks at #1 is still 5 weeks at #1 in any era.
Popular British groups in the US or even groups in general are not really the norm anymore
Beyond Imagine Dragons and Glass Animals there isn't much charting right now in the way of groups.

38 (+3). AA, Walker Hayes We're really letting Walker Hayes gets his 2nd hit. Embarrassing.

Will Heat Waves return back to #1 or will As It Was retain its spot after week?

Will Heat Waves return back to #1 or will As It Was retain its spot after week? next week hasn’t even started yet, so who knows. It’s been out like four days. I honestly think it can, charts are weak and the streaming is very strong

Billboard not only didn't say what the biggest gains in each format were, they didn't even say what the biggest gainer in airplay was ON THE RADIO CHARTS so I gave it to Big Energy as the biggest gainer since it consistently got 1M in every update

#42. Tiësto and Ava Max - The Motto (+9) *new peak*This is now officially Tiësto’s highest-peaking song in the US. Not a huge fan of the song, but congrats to him for achieving this in his 50s.
