People still have bottom 20s left?!?!?! Girl, even one of the songs in the top 3 have a bottom 20 At this point I'm gonna have to take notes about who to "forget" to tag if I end up hosting a '90s decade-end rankdown down the line!

I knew Flops was gonna Flops and tank this because he literally always does that for "Strawberry Wine" but to see it not even make the top 2..... *cringe*
I will be very disappointed if Jo Dee doesn't win. It should absolutely have been her + Deana for the top 2 imo.

"Strawberry Wine" was released in August 1996 as Deana Carter's debut single and the first from her debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? with it also going on to become her very first number one country hit. This is in fact the first song to exit from the rankdown that happened to be one of our #1 contenders where it remained over the course of the middle part. It still very much remained a top 3 competitor until in the final moment when the only non-top 50 ranking and a bottom 20 at that from LBTrocks pushed this to the back of the top 5. Sadly, eight participants in all lose a top 5 with a trio losing their #1 song including austin, castleoblivion26, and .indulgecountry.

OH MY. This top 5 is certainly off to an interesting start. When you said three #1s Deana was my immediate thought, but I was still completely expecting somebody unexpected to get three #1s, because how could "Strawberry Wine" be out already?!!
Nevertheless, I am totally okay with this, as SW was my lowest of the top 5. This song is basically an A compared to everything else being an A+++.

Stats for #4:
The next song to bow out just inside the top 5 never actually made it higher than the position it ended at. That said, it remained a solid top 10 contender for the majority of the rankdown. Yet again we see eight participants in all lose a top 10 with one of those being another #1.
Best rankdown position: 4 Worst rankdown position: 25 Average: 19.06 SD Rank: 4th Lowest
Ranking distribution: Top 10s: EIGHT! Top 20s: 2 Top 50s: 5 Bottom 30s: 0 Bottom 10s: 0

Before I reveal the next song, I should mention that the points are a bit more spread out now that we're getting further into the top 5 with ten points separating the next two songs.

It should absolutely have been her + Deana for the top 2 imo. I feel like being "very disappointed" about any of these perfect songs winning makes about as much sense as when castle thought it would be "incredibly shameful" if Reba and Shania and Lorrie weren't eliminated before the top 70 despite also having perfect songs

Ah shoot, “The Fear of Being Alone” is my absolute fav from Reba. Deserves the top 3, but I guess the list is too stacked at this point.

"The Fear of Being Alone" was released in September 1996 as the first single from Reba McEntire's album What If It's You and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. This would both start off in the top 5 and end there as well with it only making a brief appearance outside of the top 10 altogether. Despite coming in as our fourth least polarizing song and amassing eight top 10s, it just never could quite match the three songs out ahead of it and spent the last half of its run on the outside looking in of the top 3. Both 🌺CountryLineDancer and bboat11 lose their runner-up while someguy becomes the next participant to see their #1 leave.

Damn, not a single bottom-half rank to be found, and it STILL didn't occupy a position better than #4 even once?!?! That just speaks to how insanely strong this competition is right now!!! "The Fear of Being Alone" is one of the top 3 catchiest country songs of all time. Absolutely love it Was aaaaaalmost my #1, but hard decisions had to be made :'(

Stats for #3:
The last song to leave just before the top 2 was in fact not only a #1 contender but was the first song to be slotted in that position. Yet another eight participants lose a top 10 with THREE more losing their #1 song all at the same time. Only one participant even dared to place this outside of their top 35 with that being a random bottom 20.
Best rankdown position: 1 Worst rankdown position: 16 Average: 18.47 SD Rank: 25th Lowest
Ranking distribution: Top 10s: EIGHT! TOP 20s: 4 Top 35s: 4 Bottom 20s: 1 Bottom 10s: 0

I like Faith’s song but Top 2 is kinda laughable. I hope Jo Dee wins.

"Blue Clear Sky" is basically THE best windows-down summer driving song of all time. That "here she comes, a walking talking true love" riff is one of the best chorus openers that has ever been written! If you don't like it, you're just plain wrong. And lo and behold, not a single rank lower than 35!!!!!!!! Except for the one.... extreme outlier Clearly I was right to think this might be the winner, because with those ranks it obviously would have been nearly impossible to beat without some serious fuckery being afoot!

And that's a wrap, folks. I'm out. and that was my feelings after seeing "Strawberry Wine" at #5, and then bboat11's ridiculous claim that SW is an A song against A+++ songs like umm what?! 1000% rooting for Jo Dee

"Blue Clear Sky" was released in March 1996 as the first single and title track from George Strait's sixteenth studio album of the same name and reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks where it remained for two consecutive weeks. The song would go on to become the second-most played song of the year as well. This was our initial #1 contender right out of the gate as it picked up its first of three rankings from myself and it would remain as such for the first quarter of its run. In the midst of that, however, a lone bottom 20 ranking from toomuchboy came along which then pushed this back outside of the top 15 altogether. That would be the only small blip on an otherwise steady top 5 run which benefited from eight rankings all within the top 10. Of those, both bboat11 and LBTrocks joined me in putting this at the top of their list with Kanenrá:ke placing this as his runner-up.

“Blue Clear Sky” is another summer jam. Surprised to see the bottom 20 ranking... I personally prefer Carried Away, however.
