I think that one thing that most people here are missing when comparing Harry to Abel or Dua is that he simply has a much, much bigger fanbase; probably one of the biggest in the world, and it is also pretty uniform when it comes to their preferences. With The Weeknd, for example, while his fanbase is huge, it is split between different groups. The bulk of the people who consume Abel's music are pop fans. They got into his stuff through Starboy or After Hours, and they expect a different sound than the older, urban fans. For Dua, her first huge era was Future Nostalgia, and there simply wasn't enough time for her to fully develop a fanbase that would be as eager as Harry's. Obviously, anticipation is also a huge part of the difference between their debuts, I'm not denying that. I'm only stating that it isn't the only thing playing a part in that. Harry has been in the public eye for over a decade with a boyband that was even bigger than BTS at it's peak. Abel has been an A-lister for five years less, while Dua has been near that level for two or three years. Naturally, I think, that is also why Justin is still a commercial behemoth, and why Lil Nas X or Doja will be bigger and bigger with every new era. The internet is reshaping the way careers of artists go. With them being able to stay connected with their fans constantly, there is a much smaller risk of them growing out of their favourite artists, if those artists grow alongside their fans. Similarly, with music consumption now being free, being a fan, or at least and idle listener doesn't cost anything. While how well these artists actually perform may fluctuate, I believe that someone like Drake will have the potential to get hits for at least a decade longer, if not more. To smash, their songs need to connect with people, but the potential for that connection will be much bigger for much longer. I get what you are saying. But I’d say pop audiences definitely discovered Abel during his BBTM era. “Can’t Feel My Face” pretty much kicked off his pop star career, while “The Hills” cemented his earlier urban followers. That’s why I’m hoping a song like “Out of Time” can kind of get his entire audience on-board, even Urban listeners. Urban radio has not checked for him since “Heartless” and that was a more pop crossover than an Urban hit too. We’ll see how the rest of the Dawn FM era goes, I’m not giving up on it yet.

Here’s just some of the many songs that *should’ve* been big hits this year, but were instead slept on, in favor of 2021 leftovers:
Tears In The Club - FKA Twigs Ft. The Weeknd Best Friends - The Weeknd I Am Woman - Emmy Meli Money - Lisa When I’m Gone - Alesso & Katy Perry Sad Girlz Luv Money Remix - Amaarae Ft. Kali Uchis Where Are You Now? - Calum Scott & Lost Frequencies Infinity - Jaymes Young Toxic - BoyWithUke Every Summertime - Niki All of me & my sister’s music (which can be found on my music channel, Jukebox Jacob on YouTube!)

What I'm saying is that during the BBTM era Abel was viewed more as an outsider, and while CFMF was big on pop, "The Hills" was what really made that era as huge as it was and I wouldn't call that a typical pop song. While I'm not denying that pop listeners back then listened to his music, Starboy was what made him truly established in the mainstream, even if it was less successful in the US. "Heartless" was big with urban listeners, but they also kind of enjoyed "Blinding Lights" and the album had urban cuts, I'd say at least half of the album was in that lane. With Dawn FM though, it is definitely more on the pop side, without any typical urban bangers. But I'd agree that "Out of Time" can smash with both audiences. This era could go similarly to After Hours in a sense. "Take My Breath" could be the "Heartless", "Sacrifice" - the "In Your Eyes", while "Out of Time" could be the "Blinding Lights" (though more than likely not as big) and "Is There Someone Else?" or "Less Than Zero" could be the "Save Your Tears", but it isn't even certain which of those will be the next single and when that'll be released

Also I honestly wish some artists like Kodak or Imagine Dragons released their songs in NFT format only so I don't have to listen to them anymore

Off topic, but metal has taken over the German charts in recent weeks.

Well I think I know why the update was so late. Outside of As It Was, all the new releases yesterday just collapsed. Even some of the songs that debuted in the Top 50, they're gone. Harry's debut will truly be the only story this week.

Radio still exists and will probably play the role to fill in the gaps for the longevity. It’s still #1 on AM as well which is really impressive for a straight up pop song these days so i don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

Sure but where are the Good 4 U smashes on Spotify this year? Best legs so far where for Bruno and Heat Waves and both settled at the 900k to 1.1m range.
I ain't saying it will tank.

We prob won't get songs with G4U/Stay kind of streams every year. Let's settle for EOM-sized singles which are still rare enough occurrences.

The good thing about Harry’s album is that it will force SYT and Levitating off the charts, if they haven’t fallen off naturally by then. (G4u will call victim to the 25/52 just before the Harry album.)

Well I thought Shawn had a chance at another real hit but it seems that might not be the case Harry will be more than fine tho Why do you think that? It hasn’t even been out a week and has been doing well so far. Healthy gains on pop radio, decent showing on iTunes despite the Grammys songs (#16), and while it’s slipping on Spotify, it isn’t completely nosediving

The Shawn song has about 30 more spots to drop before it's on the same ballpark as his last two singles. It's his healthiest start since Señorita.

Shawn and Harry will debut well but neither is screaming longevity smash for me with those drops. All songs drop on Sunday though, so for Harry to lose only ~15% from 2nd day Saturday to day 3 Sunday is a very good hold and is actually a major sign of stabilization. And especially at these large numbers, fairly steep drops are the norm, so to go from 5.9 mil day one, 3.5 mil day 2, to 3 mil day 3 is an exceptional showing, ESPECIALLY for 2022. Yes it's possible to stay at 5mil+ numbers for multiple days, but that would be an unprecedented feat in this climate and hasn't happened since Driver's License over a year ago.

Miles Guo has two songs in the top 10 of iTunes. I wonder what prompted that ...

Miles Guo has two songs in the top 10 of iTunes. I wonder what prompted that ... his own money Seriously. This dude does not have an actual following. No one listens to his music. He knows this, thus he is trying to manufacture publicity by buying thousands of copies of his own songs to force them high on the iTunes charts so people see them up there and get curious.

Why is Stay still getting adds on radio? This is why it will never fall off the Top 10.

The Out Of Time MV is so cute! Well, mostly. It also fits the song perfectly imo and sets us up for another great video
