Radio wants it to be #1 on the all-time Hot 100. I wonder if when that happens Billboard will change the formula. Having the top 2 be from within a couple years just shows how it's off. I assure you radio doesn't give a flying f**k about the all time Hot 100 stats. Besides, STAY is not at all a radio driven hit. It's still a monster on streaming too. As is Heat Waves. The Hot 100 isn't "off" these literally are the two biggest songs right now. They are #3 and #7 on streaming. Stay's streaming is great for a 9-month song, but let's not call a song with 10-11M streams a streaming monster. Also, yeah, Stay is #7 on streaming, but it's not even in the top 50 on sales, so I'm not even sure if it'd be in the top 10 of most consumed songs of the week (SPS). Probably in the lower half. Nothing against the song and its success, but it's time for radio to let it go, today is exactly 7 months since it entered the top 3 on radio.

Sales are pretty dead. And 10-11M streams is pretty huge, especially now. The radio is playing the song because people wanna hear it.

What a complete flop that no one is consuming. Anyway, streaming is also way down, so technically nothing is monstrous, but in the context of right now, a song going on a year old still being #7 on streaming seems like a monster to me. 🙍 My entire point was that radio isn't solely to blame here. STAY is still raking in the numbers elsewhere too and the Hot 100 formula does not need changes just because the current top 2 are old as f**k. People are just into those old songs right now. Case in point: Harry Styles is the first person to release a song in 2022 that actually might stick. And it's April. Basically I'm just tired of everyone blaming radio for every little thing they don't like as if sales aren't completely dead and streaming isn't a walking cemetery of ancient songs.

I mostly agree with you, and while I don't blame radio for every little thing, I definitely think they're out of touch and have too much power. I mean, the entire top 8 on radio is currently in the top 10 vs 4/8 on streaming. Gremlin and Bruno are the only songs in the top 10 that don't get too much love from them - but we all know how much radio likes rap songs and Disney. Also, you can't find One Right Now on sales and streaming chart, but you can find it in the top 20 on the Hot 100, thanks to radio ofc. Basically, #10 on radio alone (One Right Now #19) is bigger than #4 on streaming and #14 on sales (Soy El Unico #20). I'm all for radio in the formula, but just with less influence.

What does it mean to be out of touch if a large number of people still get their music from the radio? If the chart is meant to measure what people consume, and what people consume is what’s on the radio, it makes sense that the chart reflect this.
