People are reaching at this point to explain something that should be perfectly understood. I haven't seen one critic or even individual online criticizing Katy's age in terms of backlash. It's all been centered around the quality of the material or lack thereof and Dr. Luke with a sprinkling of her being "cringy". It's like some people are trying to erase every and any bit of personal accountability Katy had in this backlash away for some odd reason, as if all of it were completely unjustified and it all spontaneously happened for no reason. lol

2k below “Smile” in the middle of a hate train?
This is a huge success for her. Im sure she was hoping to have a relaunch and get to #1; but unfortunately the material just wasn’t there, and the route she went which soured her to the general public. But giving all that, a peak at #6 is very good considering all that has happened since WW was released.

A top-6 debut is a pleasant surprise. Pretty sure early predictions were say #8 or #9 if I'm not mistaken. The hate she's gotten from critics for this album is overdone and it seems like it has backfired. I saw a chain of comments defending her under the comment section of a very mean-spirited review of 143 published by The New Yorker. I won't be surprised that a part of the first week streams were curiosity spins driven by those harsh reviews.

And any reviewer that’s confused just needs to simply open up any of Katy’s comment section on any of her socials and read them for a moment. There is no confusion. TBH Katy has given a lot this era. Looks, budget, body. The only thing she didn’t give was a good album or accountability. 🫢

The Guardian released an article about her AFL performance. I'm guessing it's like their Superbowl?: amp.theguardian.com/sport/2024/sep/28/katy-perry-afl-grand-final-pregame-show-review-big-hits-dominate-uneventful-setIt was smart of Katy to reportedly ban journalists in Australia from asking about the response to 143 and for her to sign on for the AFL event not only for the $5 million check, but to lift her spirits by playing that show and Rock In Rio within days of eachother to boost her confidence (which likely took a hit). I'd do the exact same damn thing tbh. I do wish she would face criticism head on though or at least heed it to better herself. This whole ignore and move along isn't benefiting her in the long run in terms of growth or her career. I also wonder when dates for the US go on sale for her tour.
