Oops. The buttons on the mobile version of reply are right under the post and I have big hands🤭 Did anything from Madame X show up on Spotify Top 200? Or even Rebel Heart? Wasn’t the end of the world for Madonna. I know apples and oranges, but still. I get what you mean, but, definitely not the end for Katy.

I’m kinda on board with the absurdly low meta at this point? This is just getting worse for me with repeated listens. I have been saying since WW came out I think AI was heavily involved to make it, and hearing the whole album I’m more convinced than ever now. A lot of this sounds like an obsessed Katy Cat got bored waiting for new music from her and fired up the AI software. I’m pretty sure I think Lifetimes is the “highlight” of the album, and I maintain it’s an unfinished demo… back to listening to 365 for me, which is what a “dance pop” Katy Perry album should have been. Even if you think it’s beyond awful, the worst album of the year when this garbage exists? Yeah, I would argue 143 is worse than C,XOXO, as at least with the latter chances were taken, the album is more creative, and has a more interesting identify and complexity. I'll take poorly-realized risk over a terribly executed formulaic retread anyday. There is more evidence of artistry at play there. Plus, lead aside the album has a few cute moments. "Twentysomethings", "Godspeed", "I Think He Knows", and "Can Friends Kiss?" for example rival if not best anything on 143 aside from maybe "Gorgeous"/"I'm His, He's Mine". As far as the hyperbole, I don't think anyone is saying "this is the end" for Katy, as most any artists can go on releasing material and having projects, coasting even off the good will of one or two hits so Katy shouldn't have an issue. With that said, I think her chances at a mainstream commercial resurgence are dead as are her days as a main pop girlie, but that's ok! She can always release music her fans can connect to despite not charting ala Christina Aguilera and the like.

Katy’s album is better than Camila’s, although there are a handful on hers I like.

I think she's just in a different place after being away for a min living life(partnership, raising her daughter), and I love that. Commercial success, or anything affiliated, can happen, it's been done before. Just my thoughts. (SN: I can see why she sold her publishing at the time. The music business is wayy different now.)

The public has picked the next single and according to streaming it's gonna be...
Nothing.

In hindsight it was really smart of her to sell signed copies as it may be the only thing giving this album any chance at this point. Hopefully she signed 25k copies. lol

This is truly a career-ending album for her. Why would another label take a chance on her in the future? She's cresting 40, has demonstrated zero interest in innovating her sound, and no one is streaming or buying.

Now that I think about, which is particularly interesting giving the Idol connection, Katy has an eerily similar trajectory as Paula Abdul. Both had huge respective albums with a record-breaking string of #1s (Forever Your Girl and Teenage Dream) followed by further but less massively successful albums producing 2 additional #1s (Spellbound and Prism) followed by a drop off. The singular difference is Katy had three additional hits with One Of The Boys while Paula was creating choreography for Michael and Janet Jackson.

Not the "Waking Up in Vegas" erasure (I'm assuming the two additional hits you're talking about are "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot N Cold"), we do not stand for such disrespect!

Rushed. Generic and cheap.

She's cresting 40, has demonstrated zero interest in innovating her sound, and no one is streaming or buying. I think this is the key - had she had at least fraction of the ambition that Taylor Swift/Beyoncé/Gaga etc. have with their music, this disaster wouldn't exist.

At this point, the album may not even debut Top 10 on the Billboard 200.

Man… I’m not feeling not even the album artwork for this era. The position/pose of her body looks weird to me. Not a cover that will attract me to the album for sure. Of course, that’s my opinion only. Not saying for a fact that it is awful. I didn’t like the Smile cover either, but enjoyed the album. The Witness one was indeed awful for me too. Every time I see it tiny on my phone she looks like a vampire. The eye she has in her mouth looks like two vampire teeth when looked tiny on Spotify and such on my phone. Prism was nice. One day I’ll listen to the album out of curiosity.

Smile was a good album (Katy's second best arguably) and deserved much better tbh. The cover/imagery of the era was atrocious (music videos aside except for the horribly cheap/cringey "Not The End Of The World") and unfortunately it suffered from being released during the pandemic and Katy's pregnancy, both of which complicated things a bit. I still don't understand how 143 passed through all the experienced ears it had to and everyone was like "Yep! This is the one!"

Maybe it's that old, redundant, tired stan trope that anyone who criticizes their fav has to be a secret hater? That's prolly it. I definitely know some Katy Kats here who fit that bill. lol

Yeah this is the annoying thing, like we're all somehow hoping she fails - maybe we're just disappointed? Know what would have been really awesome? A throwback KP album full of amazing pop songs. Not what we got.

Not what we got. This is the way sensitive stans always operate. God forbid someone have valid criticisms or critiques and doesn't treat this open forum like a fansite or they risk being dismissed or labeled a "hater", "jealous" etc. It's such an incredibly predictable immature mentality to have. lol I've had this accused about me with Mariah, Katy, even Taylor! lol Someone even tried to have me banned for having criticisms of their fav. It's crazy. There are plenty of artists I genuinely don't like (such as Drake), but you won't see me in their comment sections or threads, because I don't waste my time on artists I don't like. Most fans just want to be spoon-fed compliments when it comes to their fav as opposed to having any discussion that may pushback on or challenge their ideas.

First of all Adele wasn't shading Katy as they claim here but it does apply to her and it seems many pop artists and rnb are chasing that tik tok mindless, quick viral moment . I think artist just need to go back and focus on the music and body of work. Its not about streams and sales for me it's quality that counts first rest is the cherry 🍒 on top

Tbh I'm kinda glad this tanked due to the Luke association.
Otherwise very sad to see one of my faves derail her career like this. They were cooking with her initial hype and I thought this was her chance to have a solid campaign again. Even worse I have no love for it creatively which at this stage in my life is what I care the most about (I have made peace with the fact that charts will not reflect what I love all the time).
