Even with the physical inflated numbers of 2024, a career low. This is a terrible number. Yes it could have been worse but I'm sure there's no celebration in the label.

What a pessimist you are, you must be a joy to be around. Katy is turning 40 next month, these are solid numbers especially without a hit.

Sis out here doing Smile deep cuts?! Yassssssss! She had me at "Tucked"!!! I would DIE if she included Tucked on the tour setlist!!! Also @eloqueen I’m screaming bc that AI song was great. I would tear up at that bridge. On my third listen and the Britney Jean comparisons are just mean and lazy and wrong. Not at all that bad. Totally not a great album, faceless and under cooked for sure, but not near BJ levels of disaster.

The numbers are honestly as good as she could have hoped for at this point, could definitely be worse. The real question now is does it totally fall off a cliff after debut week, since I kinda can’t imagine anyone who wants this album wouldnt get it right away…

What a pessimist you are, you must be a joy to be around. Katy is turning 40 next month, these are solid numbers especially without a hit. It’s relative. For a major-label artist who has the financial backing and can afford a traditional rollout, these are not solid. Someone compared this to Britney Jean and I’d argue that’s close-enough, but this is arguably worse. It was clear from the day “Work Bitch” failed to launch that RCA (and Britney herself) gave up on that album. Capitol and Katy’s team actually tried to save this, and it amounted to nothing.

I think her age and relevance are factors here. Even the gays seem to have moved on to the latest pop girl.

Eh.
Probably will only peak a couple of spots lower than Smile. Despite literally everything from this flopping. Smile had some decent streamers on it, whereas this one does not.
On the contrary, I do think they’ll be celebrating this; as with this massive hate train, it looked like it might’ve done worse than Jlo’s latest.
I personally thought she’d have been lucky to peak inside the top 20. Top 10 is icing on the cake. For someone who debuted pre streaming era, and is nearing 40. This is a good number.

It really depends on week 2. If it's out of the top 50 then it's a different story. A few weeks in the top 20, then yes I think you could call it a success all things considering.

I'm also hoping there's a deluxe coming by Christmas or in early 2025, because 11 tracks doesn't seem like a lot these days. It would be smart to hurry something else out in the fall. Again, I am a fan of her and the CD but if she wants to ever(?) get a hit again, they need to do something drastic and fast. I think with the right producer/song.feature /etc she can still get a nice sized hit. I personally wished something on this cD was going to connect with the public but it (Sadly) does not seem like that is going to be the case. So let's just sweep this whole era under the rug and rush out a nice EP

Hopefully they are songs they did this summer after the reception of the singles and not holdovers done during the initial recording because it isn't connecting with people

Hopefully a deluxe would include a full release of ‘No Tears For New Years’.

I’m definitely a Katy critic and considering everything I think these numbers are decent. It might debut in the Top 10 which would be a win for her. I was expecting Normani numbers which is actually similar for just streaming but Normani didn’t have physicals. It looks like physical sales will give this a decent debut - which means she still has a semblance of a fan base. She’s not a pop superstar anymore and yeah it’s bad but I was expecting like a Top 50 debut.
With that said, this album won’t have legs, but still decent in some ways. Megan Thee Stallion I think had a 60K debut.

On the bright side, Phil Collins released an album in 2002 that ended up with a Metacritic score of 34 out of 100 and then his following album (which was a covers album but still) was in the 50s so that's a 20-point jump. So I believe Katy could do that same. Not that she was ever a critic darling in the first place.

I listened to the album, and it's totally faceless. It has none of the idiosyncrasies of a Katy Perry album—the kind of quirks that made me like her. I think this is why people are saying the album sounds like AI.
That said, I like "All The Love." Might be the only track I return to.

This is now the worst reviewed album by a female artist ever on Metacritic. Yikes.

Imagine they actually pushed "Cry about It Later"/"Teary Eyes"/"Tucked" during the Smile era after "Daisies"...

This is now the worst reviewed album by a female artist ever on Metacritic. Yikes. That's wild. Is there a list? lol I haven't really kept up with Katy on the critics side of things. Shut MUST drop Luke next time around. He did the same thing with Kim's last album; it was dated, medicore dance pop as well. That man is like a virus tainting any and everything around him! Is it predicted to debut top 10 in the UK or do we know yet and what are her previous album stats there if anyone has them?

The sharks are out and they smell the blood. These are mostly Lady Gaga fans in their 30s who still cannot recover from what Katy did to them with "Roar." The fact that Katy had two gigantic hits while Gaga's pop music career was being destroyed has made them permanently bitter no matter how many flops Katy is going to have. Their can certainly gloat as much as they can, but Gaga's career is not exactly thriving either. Sure, she was lucky to hop on a Bruno Mars song that has become a big hit, but she's about to have a $200 million commercial disaster (based on the pre-sale of tickets) and her own solo lead single. Gaga's pop music career was permanently destroyed in 2013, so she had to pivot to jazz, conservative HAC music, acting and just anything to stay afloat. Her only pop album in a decade was a commercial flop that secured a hit only because of streaming giant Ariana. At least, I can appreciate that Katy has never recorded a "country" album. Although, I wanted her to lean more into the pop-rock sound that originally made her famous instead of delivering such a lazy mediocre record. lol you tried I would bow at the genius tbh Same. I was actually curious and yesterday used AI to generate a song for Katy's new album and this is what it sent lol: Sure, I’d love to help with that! Here’s a song idea for Katy Perry’s new album. Let’s go with a theme of empowerment and self-discovery, which she often explores in her music. Title: “Rise Again” Verse 1: In the shadows, I found my light, Through the darkness, I took my flight, Every tear, every fall, Made me stronger, I stand tall. Pre-Chorus: I won’t be broken, I won’t be tamed, From the ashes, I’ll rise again, With a heart that’s fierce and free, I’ll be the best version of me. Chorus: Oh, I’ll rise, rise again, Like a phoenix from the flame, With the fire in my eyes, I’ll reach for the skies, Oh, I’ll rise, rise again. Verse 2: Every scar tells a story true, Of battles fought and dreams pursued, In the mirror, I see the change, A warrior, unafraid. Bridge: No more doubts, no more fears, I’ll embrace the coming years, With a spirit bold and bright, I’ll soar into the night. Chorus: Oh, I’ll rise, rise again, Like a phoenix from the flame, With the fire in my eyes, I’ll reach for the skies, Oh, I’ll rise, rise again. Outro: In the end, I’ll find my way, Through the night and into day, With a heart that’s fierce and free, I’ll be the best version of me. What do you think? Would you like any changes or additions? Maybe the use of rise was just a coincidence! lol Sounds plausible, except they would have cut the bridge and everything after because 2024.

Still #3 on iTunes for the album, which is better than I expected. It will probably fall off the chart completely for week 2, which will be the final goodbye for the haters, but week 1 isn’t so bad. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just gave this another listen. There's a few songs on here I like well enough, "I'm His, He's Mine" is probably my favourite and "All The Love" is on the road to classic Katy. "Nirvana" is a vibe. Actually, I don't know if I'd say anything on here is TERRIBLE, but most of the songs have nothing to them. Like, they're uncooked. A basic idea that didn't receive any further time or effort to take them anywhere beyond that basic idea. None of the songs go anywhere. The lyrics are mostly terrible. The melodies are mostly lazy. It's like embarrassingly low effort. It's disappointing.

If there is going to be a second radio single at all, I'm going to root for "Wonder".
The song is clearly what fans like and want. Even some of the harshest reviews mention it as a highlight.
Since nothing else is likely going to yield a good placement on Pop at this point, investing in a reasonable chance for a hit on HAC/AC doesn't sound like a bad strategy to me.
(And they've done it before with "Safe as Draft" for the Witness era after both BA and SS bombed.)
Looking at the YouTube numbers for all the new tracks, one sees that "Wonder" is actually the 3rd most played song within the first 2 days since the album dropped. Considering the last track of an album usually gets less streams, it is certainly showing some good early sign.
1. Gorgerous - 396k *focus track 2. Gimme Gimme - 215k 3. Wonder - 199k 4. Nirvana - 197k 5. Crush - 175k 6. All the Love - 167k 7. Artificial - 144k 8. Truth - 131k

My girl "Gorgeous" doing the heavy lifting (well, maybe 2 lb arm curls) as far as streams go, as expected! Thanks doll! Oh wow. Meanwhile how dare they rank Alanis's Jagged Little Pill (Acoustic) so poorly! That version is phenomenal! My favorite YouTuber shared his thoughts today on 143 if anyone is interested:
