i can't believe the album isn't coming out for another month yet. They should just surprise release it now, lol. That actually might spark a bit of interest.

Is it terrible for me to question if Katy has the kind of artistic depth and self-anaylzation it would require to pull of a really touching, raw, personal album? She just doesn't strike me as someone with too too much depth or things to say (I mean that in the nicest way possible), as artistically speaking she likes to pretty much keep things surface level, broad, and she has never been really too candid about her personal feelings sans maybe a clip or two between her divorce from Russel Brand and her Witness therapy session. I mean I don't think anyone really knows who Katy Perry is these days other than maybe goofy and cringe a bit sadly. She said she has always wanted to do two types of albums: a dance album (impending 143) and an acoustic album. I think an acoustic album could work in her favor as she can really shine in that environment vocally from what I've seen in a few performances and if she could really take a few years and dig into herself and who she is and what she wants beyond the manufactured image she has said "Katy Perry" is, maybe we could get in touch with Katherine and people would be receptive of that level of authenticity. Like an acoustic-driven pop album from Katherine Hudson. Maybe it wouldn't fly off the shelves, not like any project would at this point, but it could satiate her critics to an extent. If she even wishes to.

I love Katy a lot but i doubt she has any artistic depth. Plus, i don't think she's an intelligent woman and she's definitely tone deaf. The album will bomb terribly and will be one of the biggest bombs in Pop history. Wonder if Capitol would drop her?

I think an acoustic album could work in her favor as she can really shine in that environment vocally As she just recently made the remark, pretty sure she was referring to an acoustic album full of new material, not a collection of acoustic live covers of previously released material. I do remember those early acoustic recordings being quite good tho if I recall correctly.

Honestly, the commercial success aspect of all this aside, I just hope Katy is genuinely in a great mental space regardless of 143's commercial success or lack thereof. I hope she feels the love from her fans above the noise of the relentlessly pessimistic media and detractors. I couldn't help but feel apprehensive and slightly uneasy with all the talk of her "biggest hit yet released" and the championing of "Katy's back!".as I felt as if she and her team were setting her up quite easily for another mental backslide ala Witness if things didn't pan out the way they'd anticipated and if she hadn't truly mentally and emotionally evolved from her last career setback. You know it's easy to poke fun and mock her and other huge stars like Taylor who almost measure their worth in applause and numbers, but they've been conditioned in an environment and under such an intense microscope of over-analyzation and judgment most of us couldn't even comprehend nor did they likely have the space, time, and peace of mind to cultivate a real strong sense of themselves and their own self-worth detached from their brand and success. Success is a tricky beast because of you let the trimpuhs make you, the failures will break you and no audience applauds forever. Here's hoping at the end of the day she made an album she is proud of and happy with and hopefully we'll get a few songs to add to our playlists and enjoy as well and if she's meant to hit big again it will happen naturally, without a forced hand, as that clearly does no favors.

This is gonna tank harder than Smile. That at least got a moderate hit and reduced expectations from the pandemic. They're gonna phrase it carefully and say it was a mutual decission if it happens, but it's probably gonna come down to a money discussion of what they feel she's worth right now vs what her team will want due to her huge earlier catalogue of hits.

She sold her publishing right? Yeah, Katy sold the rights to her first 5 albums last year.

I'm still waiting for the tour announcement! She put on a wonderful show for the Witness era. I can't wait to catch her live again this time.

It will be much more telling of the actual state of her appeal. If she can still pull in crowds like with the Witness tour it shows she has maintained her core audience despite the commercial disappointments. Touring is super important for legacy artists IMO.

Yeah, I will say that Katy's show was definitely a pleasant shock for me. I remember getting like $15 dollar Witness tour tickets or something like that for my then-coworker and I. I raved about it more than she did and she was the bigger fan at the time, LOL, but yeah, Katy puts on a hell of a show!

I saw her on the Teenage Dream tour and she was so fun, plus I remember thinking her vocals were surprisingly really good. I don't know for sure how live she was but even during the slower songs and ballads, she sounded pretty on. I'd go see her again if I had the chance. That said, I don't know if an acoustic album would do her any favours. Her ballads aren't her strong suit and anything that puts her vocals front and centre would likely fall flat. But I guess so are these songs too so who really knows?

Thanks for the stats doll! I was always under the impression Witness was a resounding success box office-wise so the $15 tickets threw me. lol Obviously I respect and don't question Active Aggressive's account, as he has always been one of our most reliable and reputable members we have here, but I was starting to question if this discounted price was a regular occurrence. Lol Lucky for him he got a deal! *Jealous*

Katy knows how to put on a live show. I saw her during both the Witness and Prismatic World Tour. Both shows were really good but I truly loved her Prismatic World Tour. That one is still one of the top 3 live shows I’ve been to. I’m looking forward to her next tour because I know it’ll be a fun show.

Yeah, I remember being super down on Katy as a live vocalist after some rough televised performances, so when I saw the cheap tickets, I had to jump on them. It was some kinda deal. I wonder if it was that regular Ticketmaster promotion they do, but it was at MSG and we had solid seats too!

She’s rumored to be receiving Video Vanguard Award on VMAs this year so we’ll see what happens with the album.
Regarding the success and her mental state, she has become a mother since Smile and while she would like to be successful again, her priorities have changed. She has a gorgeous husband and a beautiful baby and if things don’t work out as well as she hoped, she can do other things.

One thing for sure, Katy’s music videos used to be super amazing even upto the Smile ones. She has lost it with the recent two releases but nevertheless a well deserved Vanguard win (tentatively).

But I guess so are these songs too so who really knows? I mean Rihanna was pretty much on that same vocal struggle boat and somewhere around Diamonds she improved a lot. She's still no Celine or Mariah but she can carry a song and do some impressive vocals. If Katy tried I think she could drop a project like that with good results. Just keep all the producers of 143 out of that recording room. And the antics. Show us something different.
