Bad first - I found about half of this quite tedious. A lot of the same kind of songs she's done to better effect on past albums. I also think the lead single is forgettable.
That said, thank GOD for Miranda Lambert. Unlike her nearest rival, Miranda still exhibits all the best things about the genre and her part in it. Authenticity, vulnerability, believability, identity, attitude. Clever wordplay, interesting stories, considered/rich instrumentation, sonic direction.
I know we heard a bunch of these on The Marfa Tapes, and I was a little apprehensive about adjusting to the fuller versions (worrying that they'd lose their soul and spirit). I was dead wrong. The WeightOfTheseWingsification of In His Arms is a triumph, and elevates something great into something truly wonderful and amongst the best things she's ever done. Waxahachie, gets new life.
I think Carousel is the best of the 'new' stuff here, and goes right to the top half/quarter of her songbook.
Interested to know what people think the single options are. Cowboy will run a little while, and then I'm guessing Strange? Not sure if it's love-blindness but would love to see In His Arms get the treatment.

About half way through the album and I like it. I donāt hear a bunch of singles from it, outside of Strange. Maybe Tourist could work as well. I think she was more radio focused last era, and this era is more her making what feels good (which I donāt mind at all.)
Hoping āStrangeā is next. Also liking āIāll be loving you.ā

Okay but it bothers me how she pronounces "tourist" lol. To me it almost sounds like "tour-ee-ist" Otherwise, this album is very cohesive and I am liking what I am hearing.

I think this is a good album, but the quality fluctuates A LOT. And sheās kind of mined the whole troubadour / wanderer trope a bit too much over the course of her career, so an entire album centered around that feels redundant.

In His Arms, Geraldene and Waxahachie to be exact.

The updated "Waxahachie" is a FORCE. Wow what a jam. Also currently bopping the fuq out of "Country Money." That song is fire. š„ "Carousel" is chillingly beautiful. Sounds like a Grammy-winning tune. Yet another masterpiece from MirLam. She really is the most consistent albums artist in the country genre. Full-stop. 100%.

Another solid ass album from Ms. Lambert! Will be interesting to see what singles they go with.

Having had time to sit with the album all day, I have to say "Country Money" is my favorite. Miranda is definitely one of the countriest in the genre right now and I am happy she is unapologetically herself. Having said that, I want her to branch out a little bit more. She dabbled in a bit of rock on 'Wildcard' and I kinda want her to delve into that sound a bit more. She definitely has the attitude for it!

This album definitely feels like a retread on the whole. Having said that, I second the love for "Country Money." Hopefully some more songs connect with me after a few listens.

Shocked to say Iām a whore for music city queen and I love all the Marfa ones. Looks like Tourist might be getting playlisted or just more attention bc it was on an IG post. But Iāve seen quite a few people on Twitter say they like that one. I hope Carousel gets a Tin Man moment ā„ļø

This Miranda album was terrible and boring the only decent song was the āMusic City Queenā song until the guy came in the song and ruined it for me.

If I had to guess, "Strange" or "Tourist" are probably at the top of the pile for single #2.

I havenāt had time to listen to this but Iām happy to hear that MirLam did not disappoint. From her solo projects to collaborations, she really really sets herself apart from others.

I really liked the sound palette of the whole album; if I had to describe it I would probably say it feels like I'm taking a chill road trip in the American west. "Strange" is probably my favorite but other personal standouts include "Tourist", "Waxahachie", "Carousel", and "I'll Be Lovin' You". "Waxahachie" definitely got the biggest glow-up of The Marfa Tapes tracks.
I agree with most here that "Strange" is the most obvious single choice but I wonder if "Waxahachie" could work as a single too if they go for a third single.

Okay no but I was thinking the same thing. "Waxahachie" is definitely God-tier for this album and I actually could see it having radio potential. It's definitely one of my favorites so a scenario where we get "Strange" and "Waxahachie" as the next two singles would be pretty damn sweet. š

Another fantastic record. Miranda continues to be my favourite contemporary country music artist, and in my opinion she hasnāt delivered a subpar album yet. This isnāt as immediate to me asWildcard, which I absolutely loved, was but Iām sure it will get better and better with repeated lessons.
As far as future singles, āStrangeā and āTouristā jump out right away, but they certainly have options, even on a not very radio friendly album.

This is a good album, and the entire thing fits together sonically so, so well. Itās not in the upper echelon of her catalog with the likes of Revolution or Wildcard, but itās not a misstep like Weight of These Wings at all.
Iām obsessed with āScenesā but think āStrangeā is the best bet for the next single. I also love āGeraldineā here, as I didnāt really pay much attention to the Marfa Tapes because they production was too slow for me.
She is a true albums artist.

I say Strange next, then end the album with Carousel. Might tank on radio, but I feel like it's a Tin Man moment.

She played a little of Strange on CBS this morning. I would love for them to say F it and send Carousel like they did TM since sheās had a decent few years at radio that sheās hopefully satisfied with. But even just one award show performance of it might be good enough.

Btw recordyear the thread title is spelled wrong (It's supposed to be "Pal omino")! I could've edited it using my staff powers but I'd rather not just go in and randomly edit people's posts if it's not like important radio information at the beginning of singles threads haha.

Call me crazy but I honestly think "Actin Up" could be a hit at radio. The general country music public would eat that up. Its also just different and fresh enough to really stand out and make an impact.
Safe option would be "Strange'. I'm also a fan of "Country Money", such a fun jam!

Sadly, this will probably be her first album to not debut at #1 on the country albums chart thanks to Morgan Wallen's vicegrip on the charts with his double album. Absolutely heartbreaking to see her impeccable long-running streak finally coming to an end. :'(
