Going from /6 to /5 would help sales heavy songs. When you divide a number by 5 you take away less of it than when you divide it by 6.

Both Uptown Funk and ADT have that late 70s/early 80s funk feel. [ADT pretty much sounds like a Chaka Khan song, and I thought it was Chaka the first few times I heard it.] Not to mention, their rises have mirrored each other (Uptown Funk going 65-18-8, while ADT went 60-19-9 the last few weeks). Also, the song that was perceived to be the strongest at the time was arguably by the biggest pop star (Blank Space for Uptown Funk, and As It Was for ADT).

Lol I’ve been seeing that poster comparing ADT to Uptown Funk and it’s just so ridiculous. Like stop already. ADT is NOT going to spend 15 weeks at #1. Signs have already shown that Lizzo’s song doesn’t nearly have the wide ranging appeal that song had, which smashed across the board on all the formats. Lizzo is more pop driven, with the other formats playing catch up. The song is not going to have the same Urban appeal. She will eventually hit a ceiling. Definitely not as wide appealing as Bruno Mars who crossed all the formats, demographics and genders. Males are not going to be bopping to ADT like they did to UF (besides the gays). So just STOP with this random ridiculous comparison already.

The more we engage with him, we're just fueling him even more.

Having said that though, I do think there are signs that ADT is showing a trajectory such that it could become a very, very big multi-week #1, maybe not on the level of UF, but it's hard to confirm or deny that possibility at this early point. Could we be so sure of UF's prospects when it was this early in the game?

Having said that though, I do think there are signs that ADT is showing a trajectory such that it could become a very, very big multi-week #1, maybe not on the level of UF, but it's hard to confirm or deny that possibility at this early point. Could we be so sure of UF's prospects when it was this early in the game?

But how are we so sure it’s going for a multi-week #1? It still hasn’t been able to pass Harry (who still has an entire album rollout coming too) or Jack in streaming, and the song is still far far behind in airplay. I said this a couple weeks ago that once Lizzo gets to #3 she will hit a wall because of those two. I can see her hitting #1 in July perhaps, pushed by her own album release. But to say it’s a multi week #1 in the bag or even suggest it will spend 15 weeks at #1 is just wishful thinking right now.

By the way I just went on the Spotify regional chart site and there’s a disclaimer that says the site will be shut down beginning June 3. Does this mean we are going to lose getting daily streaming numbers? I checked their other chart site and the numbers aren’t included but rather just positions.

We literally should just let the numbers speak for itself. Saying a crazy thing like that to ADT just sets it up for failure because you’re setting crazy expectations for it. We can’t say that a song would be at least a 12+ week #1, be the #1 song or at least top 10 of the decade, and be in the top 10 songs of all time. I said “at least” because we can’t even expect those things to happen, and its so ridiculous we’re even having this conversation in the first place. No song ever performs 1:1 the same way no two songs from one artist would perform the exact same from one another.

Let About Damn Time do its damn run and then we can sensibly predict the rest of its run when it’s established itself. It’s still basically in “trial mode” because its massive gains were primarily from tik tok, so let’s see if it can catch up on all other metrics before writing this up as an “Uptown Funk clone…”, which once again is among the most ridiculous things said on this platform. I don’t mind what this certain poster says sometimes, he even provides useful information that is really impressive. It’s his opinions i know, but it kinda makes me lose credibility for him when he sets these unrealistic and overdramatic expectations.

Yes I’m aware of that but you don’t get the numbers when you get directed to that site, just the rankings. Or is it just me because I don’t have a Spotify account? For example I can see Harry is #1 but how much streams does he have? I wouldn’t know unless I checked the site they are removing. So is Spotify changing to a format like Apple Music where the numbers are ambiguous and you just get rankings? That’s going to drive everyone crazy here.

For what it’s worth, Uptown Funk kind of hit a wall once it entered the Top 5. The Top 2/3 at the time was strong, with Blank Space, AATB, and TMTC. UF didn’t go straight from #8 (or even #5) to #1. After going from 8-5 in Week 4, UF then went 3-3-2 in Weeks 5-7, before dethroning Blank Space in Week 8. I can see something similar happening with ADT. I don’t think it will do the full 14 weeks at #1 like UF, but I think 10 or 11 is possible. AIW is going to peak on radio any day now, and First Class is not far behind. ADT has a lot of room to grow on radio, and should outlast these songs once they peak on radio.
