Did anyone else notice that on iTunes Hold My Hand was briefly beating RUTH yesterday by a 1.00 to 0.80 margin, while today it's suddenly back to RUTH leading HMH by a 1.00 to 0.400 margin. And HMH wasn't even discounted then. There's something a little fishy there, maybe there was a last minute fan push or something.

The big story this week came out of nowhere, as thanks to prime placement in Stranger Things, Kate Bush's classic song coming in and ending all of our faves (unless you're like samo🦕 and your fave is Kate Bush)

There really weren't any big stories outside of Kate. Aside from that, Ojitos Lindos gained 6%, Hotel Lobby climbed a bit by 5%, Sweetest Pie regained some momentum up 13%, meanwhile Vegas is building Momentum by gaining 12%, and she's all i wanna be soared back by 28% (just a shame her album underperformed)

I really feel bad for Tate. Not even a huge fan of hers, I still think she's pretty mid but having followed her from being small act on YouTube that grew a small cult following for her songs she could've ironically held up if she stayed small and developed and grown first.

Instead her influences took over and and the label wanted another Billie Eilish but then they didn't know how to capitalize on her success outside of various pop collabs (although I still stand You, that song should've been a hit stateside) and now with her album and singles underperforming just to be nice, I feel like we're just seeing a repeat of what's happened to Daya or Kiiara: another teenager who could've been a promising act had the label not tried so hard and actually taken the time let her develop as an act.

Idk, maybe she can still build a small-ish following after the hits dry out the same way Olivia O'Brien or Bea Miller or MO but man, I just can't help but have some sympathy for her.

I see that she doesn't have another entry in the Spotify 200, but I wonder if "Wuthering Heights" or "Hounds of Love" or "This Woman's Work" or something like that is in the Top 500 or so.

"Cloudbusting" is at #88 on the US Spotify Viral chart. That's as far as I know about how well Kate Bush's other stuff are doing.

It's unfortunate that Kate Bush doesn't have a hits collection available. Even 'The Whole Story' (which it wasn't) is still a good collection of KB's 1978-1986 era, but that's not available. And, while streaming is obviously the primary driver, having a hits collection does make it easier for people to easily sample an artist who is new to them.

The pretty big different for her is the sales. Given that the top 10 should be weaker than last week, top 5 is quite possible.

I'm looking at the Essentials playlist on Apple Music and aside from maybe them putting "Suspended in Gaffa" on the Next Steps one instead, it's a pretty good introduction to her music. Only really big omission is "Experiment IV" which isn't streaming anywhere and is one of her best singles.

The next season should be set in 1987, which means we need to get "Pleasure Principle" into the top ten. #14 is nowhere near good enough for that song.

If I’m not mistaken, “Running Up That Hill” should be the oldest non-holiday song to reach the top 10 (37 years). We’ve seen films relaunch “Stand By Me” and “Unchained Melody,” and now Stranger Things has aided this classic to new heights.

This should also be the longest wait between career debut and first top 10 hit (44 years). Honestly, I’m not even sure what the record is anymore with all the holiday hits and pre-Hot 100 debuts. I can tell you nobody else has waited this long with non-holiday hits…

Hopefully what's happening with Running Up That Hill will happen with a Janet Jackson song, giving her some sort of career continuation or just acknowledgement. She deserves it after being unfairly shut out back in the 00s.

This is assuming the trend of songs going top 10 after being featured in a show or movie gets more frequent, which would be awesome.

I would love for it to continue. But I'm not sure how many shows out there can do what Stranger Things has done. Still happy that Madonna is getting some residual benefits of the new season of Stranger Things with her songs Material Girl and Angel.
