Doubt it. Some of the members will probably be starting military service soon. That's a mandatory routine for men in South Korea age 18 and it's required that they serve two years, any attempts to not go through with it or to not complete two years is breaking the law. They've been lenient with BTS for so long because they were such a big money maker for the country but they can't extend the age requirement forever. 

All k-pop boy bands go through this period btw

Hmm I actually didn't think about that. Now that I think about, perhaps HYBE has a plan to release something in between their service, to keep the fans happy.

The BTS hiatus is right on schedule. I’m sure we all saw it coming eventually. I wish I could remember where and when I posted about it last year during Meg and Meg2’s reign of terror. It was the next step for them as happens with any boyband. They’ll mostly/all start to release solo singles and albums next I’m sure, occasionally tease a comeback album or tour, and that’ll be it for the next 20 years.

Edit: I thought they were able to bypass the military service due to their commitment to other activities that related to their roles as “ambassadors” or something like that? Or am I mixing them up with someone else?

TBH the BTS announcement gives me major "One Direction hiatus" vibes, especially with it being indefinite and them emphasizing their solo projects. Maybe the label can keep it pushing with any backlog they have, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is it for them.

Yeah, that's what I believe tbh. Maybe a single here, a mini-album there. They didn't spend the last 30 months especially building up the band the way they've done and seeing all that success just to hit pause for 2 years. I really don't see that happening. They have a fanbase eager to be fed and I believe they'll do all they can to keep them busy.

That's very similar to what RCA did with Elvis when he enlisted. His output slowed down but he still got number one hits during his service because they stockpiled what they could beforehand, and I believe had him doing marathon recording sessions when he was on leave.

Yeah, aren't One Direction and *NSYNC still technically "on hiatus"? If one of their solo careers really blows up then that will be it.

I noticed Harry's MFASR is climbing the Pop radio chart - it's Top 50 in building chart this week. Is that really the 3rd single? If so, why push so soon?

If that's what they were aiming for, I think they would have announced it before the release of the new song to hype it up to the max. "The last BTS single (in a while)" promo angle would have given them another easy #1 but it seems like they are trying to make this announcement seem as small and casual as possible so fans wouldn't be too disappointed.

It's not the third single as of right now. It's just radio playing it on their own. Late Night Talking doesn't even impact pop radio until next Tuesday, despite already being top 20.

tbh I don't get 1D vibes from this hiatus at all. When they went on hiatus, they had already lost a member and the writing had been on the wall for a while at that point. It really seems like all the guys in BTS are still friends and it does seem to me like it is just a hiatus and that they'll be back at some point in the near-ish future. Could be wrong but this seems much less messy than the 1D "hiatus"
