What songs can be expected to go recurrent this week from Drake's album? Til You Canβt and If I Was a Cowboy will go recurrent. Possibly AA also, and if Flower Shops doesnβt go recurrent on the 6/25 chart, Drake will push it recurrent. The following week (7/9) is when Bad Habits will be sent to recurrency via 25/52 rule, as a result of a combination of Drake/Luke Combs songs. Flower Shops is still rising on country radio, so it wonβt be going recurrent anytime soon. Everything else should be fair game, although Iβd argue AA is too high and declining too slowly to exit just yet.

Imagine telling somebody that Joji would one day outstream Drakeβs biggest song from his three-day old album lmao Isn't the Joji song benefitting from a TikTok boost? Its gains aren't organic. It took off on TikTok and has been gaining exponentially since. Same thing happened to First Class the week it dropped. How his other singles (without a TikTok boost) perform, is his real standing commercially.

I like the Beyoncè single. Don't know if it'll be a smash hit but she definitely took her best shot at one with the song.

How his other singles (without a TikTok boost) perform, is his real standing commercially. How is that not organic? An increase in activity for a song on one platform leads to increase in activity for a song on other platforms. It isn't organic because most of the people contributing to the streams for the song aren't Joji fans. They won't stream his next single the same way they're doing this one if it doesn't go viral as well. They're TikTok users who saw a viral song and have been streaming the actual song as a result. This is exactly what happened with 7 Summers by Morgan Wallen & Forever After All by Luke Combs and what led to both songs having out-of-the-ordinary strong starts on streaming. Both songs were teased on TikTok prior to their release. Jack Harlow did it with First Class as well. It always starts with a massive boost in the first week/first few weeks and then fizzles out. If the artist is lucky, by the time that happens, it has gained enough on radio and has found a legitimate audience that'll keep streaming the song so it remains stable on the charts but not until it loses most of the streams it gained as a result of going viral. Me saying it isn't organic isn't me hating on the song btw. Even before TikTok, take In My Feelings for instance. Its streams weren't organic. They were due to a global dance craze. Once that fizzled out, so did the song. If its consumption activity was organic, it wouldn't have dropped so hard from the top 10 following an ease in it's virality. That's all I'm saying.

I would say having a global dance craze is organic as well. Inorganic would be label puppetry of, say, a million performances or a million days on Spotify TTH.
Organic isn't the same thing as the song's artist having a big fanbase running out and supporting all the music they make. Certainly most people on this board wouldn't consider BTS's success organic and that is definitely very fanbase powered.

You forget the fact that the success of most songs is driven by generic public but not artist's fans. Otherwise, one-hit wonders would not be a thing.

I mean you could say this with a number of hits though. I doubt a majority of streams for STAY were LAROI fans. Same with INDUSTRY BABY, Woman, hell even Drake's hits. And remember, Glimpse of Us wasn't as promoted as other songs that came out the same day, it wasn't even on TTH until it went super viral. The measure of something being organic isn't whether only the fans are listening. If that were the case, then wouldn't BTS' songs be more organic?

officially out on YouTube: Well looks like we're getting 90s throwbacks after all, between this, Big Energy, 4*TOWN, and Drake also going house Also this is the second time Beyonce and Big Freedia have worked together and for both times, it was the lead single to her albums. This song isn't as good as Formation but still a pretty good house song, Beyonce sounds great, and house groove has good bounce. Not sure if I'll return to it as often as her best singles but it's a good foot forward.

Does anyone else think Beyonces song is... like... not good? Reminds me less of 90s house music & more of that part of the 2010's when R&B was way too dark and unfun and gave us stuff like "Na Na", "Bitch Betta Have My Money", "Only" and honestly "7/11" and "Drunk In Love" none of which are that good
Don't like to be a hater but idk feels like with 6 years of time she could have made something a lot better & more creative
EDIT: I FIGURED OUT WHICH SONG IT REMINDS ME OF it's goddamn Party by Chris Brown. To be fair its better than that but Party is a legit 1/10 so being a slightly improved version of Party isnt saying much

The '90s always felt like the black sheep of decades to pull from over the past few years. We've gotten '70s throwbacks from Silk Sonic, '80s throwbacks from The Weeknd and many others, 2000s throwbacks from Olivia, MGK and a whole bunch of others, but aside from maybe Finesse in 2018 pulling from new jack swing and Brutal pulling from '90s chick rock, that decade has been completely left behind for some reason. (And no, Something In The Way seeing a revival this year doesn't really count, that's from an actual '90s band getting a boost from a movie)
And that makes it strange to all of a sudden see Drake and Beyonce dropping tracks that sound like they came straight from the early '90s. Not complaining, we've needed a shift in retro sounds to pull from for a while now, I just find it odd.

'90s country is a thing on country genre in recent years, most recently a song that is successful partly because of the interpolation of a 1996 song Heads Carolina, Tails California.

Admittedly, β90s country is a huge blind spot for me because of how Billboard segregated it from literally every other genre at the time aside from the occasional pop crossover, so Iβm not familiar with a lot of those songs. But Iβve somewhat noticed that trend too.

That obnoxious instrumental does not fit her vocals at all.
