All this time wasted trying to debunk trollish arguments when y'all could be streaming Kate Bush

Anyone claiming that anything other than As It Was or maybe Heat Waves is the biggest hit of the year is either lying to themselves or completely ignorant of contemporary pop music

In all seriousness, As It Was, First Class, About Damn Time, and Wait For U are the biggest songs of 2022. This really isnβt up for debate.
The only reason why Heat Waves and Stay are going to finish as the YE Top 2 is because the Billboard tracking year started in mid-November.

With Running Up That Hill it's more like the single biggest moment in music this year than the biggest hit in a way

Heat Waves is 100 percent the biggest hit of the year, it absolutely dominated the first half of the year and itβs still Top 10 right now. Iβve heard it about 7000 times this year and it isnβt just radio based success like Big Energy, its steaming is still big.

I was on the AC Boardwalk last weekend, and when this one came on, everyone went crazy. This is one of the biggest songs of the year.

As I said, the disconnect of 2022 reminds me a lot of 2002. In 2002, the YE #1 was a leftover from the previous year (How You Remind Me), but the biggest hit during the calendar year (by Billboardβs standards) was Foolish, but Complicated felt like the biggest hit in real life (despite never reaching #1 on the Hot 100 or finishing in the YE Top 10). This year, Heat Waves is going to finish as the YE #1, but As It Was is going to be the biggest hit by Billboardβs standards, but About Damn Time feels like the biggest hit of the year in real life. "Complicated" didn't feel like the biggest hit of 2002 to me, and "About Damn Time" certainly doesn't feel like the biggest hit of 2022 to me. (As for "ADT," Billboard can't even 'manipulate' things to make it #1 considering its streaming peak to this point was #8 and it's currently not even top 15 but go on.) It's all subjective, but when I think about the biggest hits of 2002 (the calendar year, not the chart year) I think of "Hot In Herre", "Lose Yourself", "Work It", "What's Luv", "The Middle", "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", even "A Moment Like This" kicking off the American Idol phenomenon..."Complicated" is certainly up there too but I don't think it "felt" like the biggest hit either.

What holds "About Damn Time" back for me is its lack of streaming. Even if "Stay" and others have lingered at radio for too long, they at least had really good streaming at one point. "ADT" hasn't gotten higher than #8 in streaming, and more so during its run it has been out of the streaming top 10 a lot of that time. In 2022 I don't see how something can be seen as one of the biggest hits of the year if it is was never one of the bigger songs on streaming.

Yep - I will buy that it is his personal biggest song of the year
Tie it to national charts though it obviously doesn't add up

So, your theory is now debunked. Also "One of the biggest song s of the year" is different from your multiple assertions that this is THE biggest song (singular) of the year. I personally wouldn't objectively put it in the Top 10 of the year, but I agree it's one of the biggest songs of the year and one of the most tiktok viral of the year.

This is the last thing I'm gonna say about this subject and end it, I have been to several places the past few months and I rarely ever hear ADT, not at stores, not at bars, not even on TV, the only place I really hear it is on is TikTok and I don't listen to the radio enough to speak on that.
To site Spotify, AM and all the other websites we use for our data, sure ADT has AIW does have it beat on radio and iTunes but AIW is right behind it whereas streaming, AIW is top 10 on every service other AM where it's at 12 as opposed to ADT where the service it's in the top 10 rn is Amazon Music. We'll just agree to disagree on what the biggest song of 2022 is because we're not gonna change each other's mind and I don't know want to change anyone's mind. AIW has this week in the bag and I just hope it can hold on for one more week to get to 10 weeks.

Stan Twiiter has been yelling about Drake needing to "change his sound," and as soon as he does that the general public straight up rejects it. Not only that, but they have one of two rap songs open at number one and give 26% of the project's streaming to the two rap songs. If that ain't the consumers sending a message then I have no idea what is, and they obviously do not want to hear Drake singing Taio Cruz rejects. Hopefully, people stop acting as if unstable Twitter people have any power now If he changed to a GOOD sound it would've hit Obviously, the GP has given Drake numerous hits with a variety of sounds, and that is why the βDrakeβ needs to change his sounds complaints have never made any sense. The point being that artists need to stop listening to Twitter when the GP often rejects whatever they push

Why do yβall act as if she does not have an album coming out in two weeks? With her sales and airplay, the song is guaranteed to number one for at least that week . No manipulation is necessary. Nevertheless, no one except chart fans pays attention to Billboard. A number one might have been significant to the general population at one point but it ainβt now. That is why there awards show got below two million viewers even though it was airing on NBC

Does it really matter? Everyoneβs βbiggest song of the yearβ is subjective and varies based on each personβs individual experience. Not worth the back and forth bickering.
(Not to mention this is off topic, this thread is to discuss THIS weekβs BBH100, not the biggest song of the year lol)

Really slow week where despite new releases from Lil Nas X, Eminem, Taylor Swift, Jung Kook, and Chris Brown, the biggest story might actually be Drake's DISASTROUS second week numbers.
We did get some gains, notably BREAK MY SOUL gaining 24% after a full week of tracking, Vegas cracking the Top 10 thanks to a 15% boost, The Kind of Love We Make rising by 16% thanks to the album dropping, and 5 Foot 9 soaring up 26%.
