LOLOL!!!!! Dawn FM really is his flop era. Which makes me sad honestly. Couldn't his flop era have been Starboy? Unpopular opinion, but that album is not that good imo.

On the other hand Dawn FM should've had so many hits if it was promoted correctly, and SYT didn't overshadow everything. He was overexposed in general but the main problem was SYT. Anyway, TMB would've been caught in between years but it should've been top 50 for 2021 year end and top 75 for 2022 year end. Sacrifice should've been easy top 15 on year end. (Still amazed that didn't become a hit), OOT should've made YE, and LTZ should've been top 50 on YE.

It just makes me sad honestly. This album should've been huge and it just wasn't.

#1 in 2 different metrics (sales and airplay). This is more deserving than As It Was, which hasn’t been #1 in any metric the last 6 weeks, but has been #1 on the Hot 100 on 5 of those weeks.

Also, UGC/TikTok streams not counting make ADT’s streams seem low.

UGC should never be re-introduced to the Hot 100. Neither should TikTok view start counting either. Snippets are not, y'know, the song and shouldn't count. If you're not consuming the entire song - or at least a significant chunk of it (be it stream, sale or airplay) - then it shouldn't count. Lil Nas X's run with OTR is what it is but 15-30 second snippets fueling such ridiculous numbers is bogus. UGC is people engaging with *memes* not the actual content used in it. Let the memes fuel the engagement of the *actual content* and measure that, as is the current practice. But the memes themselves? #BYE

I for sure thought that Starboy was sort of a flop compared to BBTM until i realized all songs charted on the hot 100, did have a #1, another top 5 hit, 2 other minor top 30 hits, and now Die For You and Stargirl Interlude (and title track itself obv), is the contributing factor to almost all of its streaming these days. The album on its own is just more of a longevity streaming one rather than peaks.

Dawn FM only has TMB but even then that song was so lucky being a top 10 hit and sticking around long enough to make the 2021 YE list to make it probably the only hit from the era. Sacrifice was sadly not a great 2nd single choice and if it went to Out Of Time or Is There Someone Else it would’ve probably done way better overall. Along with the album having physicals right out of the gate and if he announced it way before just a couple days, and i mean like at least a month before or earlier. Surprise releases just don’t work for him, he should’ve known with MDM despite that being an EP but even that was sadly short lived.

Sacrifice was sadly not a great 2nd single choice and if it went to Out Of Time or Is There Someone Else it would’ve probably done way better overall. Along with the album having physicals right out of the gate and if he announced it way before just a couple days, and i mean like at least a month before or earlier. Surprise releases just don’t work for him, he should’ve known with MDM despite that being an EP but even that was sadly short lived.

See, I thought Sacrifice was gonna be a hit like 7 rings. A number one debut that stays at number one for a while. And around 7 on year end. Should've been an easy top 15 on YE at the very least.

On the other hand Dawn FM should've had so many hits if it was promoted correctly, and SYT didn't overshadow everything. He was overexposed in general but the main problem was SYT. Anyway, TMB would've been caught in between years but it should've been top 50 for 2021 year end and top 75 for 2022 year end. Sacrifice should've been easy top 15 on year end. (Still amazed that didn't become a hit), OOT should've made YE, and LTZ should've been top 50 on YE.

I for sure thought that Starboy was sort of a flop compared to BBTM until i realized all songs charted on the hot 100, did have a #1, another top 5 hit, 2 other minor top 30 hits, and now Die For You and Stargirl Interlude (and title track itself obv), is the contributing factor to almost all of its streaming these days. The album on its own is just more of a longevity streaming one rather than peaks.

As you say, MDM was only an EP and more akin to his earlier indie style and not at all a full-blown mainstream release, so that was actually heralded for performing very well for such a release, and the Dawn FM was originally supposed to be released not long after TMB came out in July 2021, which marked the official launch of the era, but was delayed because of TMB's underperformance, so while the specific release date of January 7, 2022 wasn't announced well ahead of time, people knew it was coming for months, so that wasn't exactly a surprise release either. And I don't think swapping out Sacrifice for Out of Time or Is There Someone Else as the second single would've made much difference, given that OOT eventually performed much worse, and I don't think Is There Someone Else would have done the trick either. Single choice and order of release might have been handled better in other ways, but I think the Dawn FM's main misfortune is due to it being released simply too early (even with it being delayed a few months) with the Weeknd suffering from overexposure, the album continuing in the same style as After Hours which people were probably getting tired of, as well as other poor promotional strategies.

IDK where this idea came from that TikTok and UGC are good indicators of what people are actively listening to, that's what the Spotify and Apple Music charts are for. UGC isn't a good representation of what people are listening to when the music isn't the focal point of the content.

Yes, way too much focus and complaint on one specific type of UGC Going on in the thread.  So do we just always stop everything counting in a metric/format consumption type, is if there's an issue with one aspect of it on the charts?  Or do we just not count the problem part of it.

i suspect UGC not counting any more had little to do with impact on charts, and far more to do with labels wanting to remove focus from such fan driven content for copyright reasons.

A UGC can be listened to for the song, far more than someone starting a playlist.  In the former it could be a lyric video, in the latter they could have left the room and it still be streaming,

as well, 30 seconds is 30 seconds. Be it a minimum or maximum.  Someone listening to an exact 30 second UGC is consuming just as much as someone who listens to exactly 30 seconds of a chorus.
