I will never get how anyone can hate Alan Jackson's music. Still sounds great now as it did probably back then.

Welp, onto 2023 for the ladies… ughh.
^ seeming less and less likely with the Combs/Wallen wave in country music, it’s a shame. However, as long as they’re nominated (Carrie & Miranda) they always stand a chance to win.

It’s fun when you go in just expecting it. You know it’s gonna happen when it’s a shock that a woman won two awards in one night. 😒🖕🏻

Carrie and Miranda really need to get this asap. Even Chris Stapleton feels overdue at this point.
Really good show overall though.

I really don't get why people still think Carrie Underwood is gonna get it every year only to get shocked every time she doesn't, I get that it is part touring award but Luke Combs is just such the modern face of the genre (him and Morgan Wallen) that this award always felt like his or Morgan Wallen's to lose.

If Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen alternate their release schedules good enough, then I don't see anyone else winning EOTY in next couple years at least.

People need to stop ever expecting Carrie to win. It is not going to happen. And I say this as her biggest fan. If she couldn’t get it years ago she isn’t going to get it now. And yes - Carrie never won it when she was the “face of the genre” (even though she still arguably is one of the top 5 faces of the genre to this day - everyone knows who she is)

I don't think anyone actually expected Carrie to win (and really, this eligibility year wasn't great for her anyway), but they can hope for it. For next year she should have a good shot in theory because she will have her successful tour, some hits, etc.

I don’t think Carrie wins this at this point. If she didn’t win in her commercial peak why would she win in her decline? Her and Miranda should both have won at this point, but is anyone really surprised. 🙄

I agree about the eligibility period for entertainer this round, and that the boys played bigger tours (even tho Carrie does way more of a spectacle, it’s not stadiums) but at this point it’s just owed to them both out of respect 🫠 And I feel like this was their “it’s too soon for Morgan” year and then next year he might start getting it idk. With how radio heavy the voting seems I just think Carrie and Miranda have been graduated from winning much anymore. And honestly they’re they’re pretty much the last of their class still getting consistent noms (blake, luke, eric, jason etc) I mean, Luke’s album was like 4th in line for me to win I honestly thought it was so mediocre but when you’re getting constant #1s I suppose that makes it seem better 👩🏻🦯

I agree about the eligibility period for entertainer this round, and that the boys played bigger tours (even tho Carrie does way more of a spectacle, it’s not stadiums) It is kind of annoying how these guys can literally stand on stage looking like they're about to go to the supermarket and just kind of stand there and sing songs and still sell out stadiums and win EOTY and such while Carrie goes to the lengths she does for her shows and can't win EOTY once. Well, the CMA Awards site says the trophy was created to look like a "chart bullet" and it's also stated that they use Billboard Country Albums as both a reference for the definition of "album" and as a requirement for eligibility as an album has to be on that specific chart for its first time in the eligibility period, so chart success is definitely supposed to be factored in.

I'm still emotional over the performance (and still remember Berg singing "Back When We Were Beautiful" in the 90s).

^Not so much a great piece, but rather, a self-revealing piece. Need people like Dukes to start saying it with his whole chest: if you don’t kiss the ring, you won’t reap the benefits. Luke Combs, Keith Urban, and—what do you know—Garth Brooks are the 3 names he specified in recent years who did exactly that, and look at what the results have been for EOTY for the last several years?
For Dukes to write in a published article that someone like Underwood could win if she “lowers her guard a bit” is the entire problem of the country music industry’s politics. And not to mention, it feels kinda gross to read.

And not to mention, it feels kinda gross to read. I get what you're saying, but I also see what the article is saying; it's human nature for us to like/root for/vote for people we know and like. Artists shouldn't have to give up time with their family, sort of "kiss ass" or whatever, etc, but at the end of the day humans are voting for these awards so of course emotion is going to play into it. No voting is ever 100% objective and free from human bias. If we polled Carrie Underwood fans on EOTY, they'd all mostly vote for her every year, even in years where objectively she had a weaker year.

I don’t blame Carrie and Miranda for not doing that stuff anymore. They have been doing this YEARS longer than Combs. They showed up during their time like Luke is showing up now and still lost to the boys in those years so idk I get it but also I can see how theyre totally over kissing ass. It’s not like radio is being particularly great to either one of them atm either.

I realize the politics aren’t right, I’ve been screaming that for years. I don’t like what Billy is saying, but from the perspective of analyzing the situation, he’s mostly right. Carrie doesn’t campaign like other artists, and this is known. In a political industry, winning is hard without some sort of campaign. It’s a glaring problem and I hate it, but right now that’s the state of play.

It’s good to basically have it confirmed that CU is never getting EOTY from this mess of a show. Makes me know to hang up the hat.
As I have done the past couple years now, here are this year’s milestones:
As the top nominee with six nods, Lainey Wilson becomes the fourth artist to receive six or more nominations as a first-time nominee. She follows Glen Campbell (1968) and Brad Paisley (2000), who also had six in their first years, and Kacey Musgraves (2013) who had eight.
With Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert's nominations for Entertainer of the Year, this is the first (😒 ) time that two female acts have been nominated in this category three years running since Reba McEntire and The Judds in 1986-88.
Shane McAnally's Song of the Year nomination for "Never Wanted to Be That Girl" ties him for most nominations in that category with Alan Jackson, with both songwriters achieving ten nods.
For the first time in CMA history, three of the five nominees in the Single of the Year category are collaborations. "Never Wanted to Be That Girl" by Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde is also only the second (🙄 ) all-female collaboration to be nominated in this category, following "Does He Love You" by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis in 1994.
Miranda Lambert remains the most nominated female artist in CMA history, with 61, and the third most nominated artist overall behind Alan Jackson (81) and George Strait (83). Lambert's sixth Album of the Year nomination for Palomino makes her the most nominated female artist in that category, overtaking McEntire, Underwood and Loretta Lynn who each have five. (!!!!)
With 16 nods, Lambert and Underwood are tied for the third most nominations in the Female Vocalist of the Year category behind McEntire (18) and Martina McBride (17). Similarly, Lady A's 15th nomination for Vocal Group of the Year put them in joint third with The Statler Brothers and Diamond Rio behind Little Big Town (17) and Alabama (21) for most nominations in the category. Brooks & Dunn also extend their lead as the most nominated act in the Vocal Duo of the Year category, with 23 nominations.
Paul Franklin continues to extend his streak as the most nominated person in CMA history, receiving his 29th nomination in the Musician of the Year category. Despite his 30 nominations overall, Franklin is notable for having never won a CMA Award in any category.

In addition to the lack of any substantial tribute to Naomi Judd, I don't think there was a single mention of 1974 Female Vocalist of the Year Olivia Newton John was there?

Have the CMA awards or ACM awards done “in memoriam” tributes to singers who have died? I thought for sure they used to do these but maybe not.

Yes, Carrie had a great performance for one a few years ago:
