Even though Carrie's performance was her usual remarkable, that segment seemed more focused on her than the deceased. Too many of the deceased were relegated to the background of her performance. Even the people in the audience seemed more focused on her than on those who deserved their reverence in that moment. But, at least the CMA honored the deceased that year. Loretta and Jerry Lee were not the only two country musicians that passed in the last year. Naomi, Olivia, Mickey, Jody and so many others deserved some acknowledgment during the broadcast. Even the ACM Honors briefly name-checked Naomi, Olivia and Mickey. But, I suppose that would have meant less time for commercials by ABC or for the performers and presenters to plug their latest projects. I miss when the awards shows were about the awards honoring and featuring only those past and present that were nominated instead of the show being mostly a three hour commercial with the awards practically forgotten. The CMA only has twelve awards and yet they only find time to air nine of them over a three hour show?!?

Surprised nobody mentioned here but the "special performance" by Reba was skipped on the awards show. It could be the missing In Memoriam segment.
