With 84 spins on AAA, I think this warrants a thread. Even if it's only from three stations. Two of them, Sirius XM Spectrum and Birmingham Mountain Radio, are big fans of the artist (having played two other singles from him), and the other is KINK Portland.

I didn't love Goin South, but this one really works for me. It gives me major Jason Isbell vibes in style and lyric.

This has been doing very well on the Hot Country Songs chart, but radio hasnβt really signed up yet. Weβll see if that changes.

i'm super duper picky abt my country but i really adore this one. if it makes the hot 100 year end chart, which it looks like it has a decent shot of doing, there's a real chance this could be my favorite hit song of the year
anyways this makes sense on aaa n i'm surprised it hadn't charted already

Back in the top 50 again, because apparently commercial/mainstream-leaning stations have "nothing else" better to play.

Back in the top 50 again, because apparently commercial/mainstream-leaning stations have "nothing else" better to play. 55 50 ZACH BRYAN Something in the Orange 74 68 6 0.21 I'm going to be dead serious here: the commercial stations sincerely believe they have nothing else better to play. The data apparently is SO hostile to new music right now that they're regurgitating songs from the past, even the recent past, or are playing old/questionable songs that are showing strength on the Hot 100 to try to lure listeners in. This is affecting all radio formats, not just AAA. Alt is affected, country is affected, Rhythmic is affected, and CHR/Pop and Hot AC are being BADLY affected by this right now. The industry literally gasped when a AAA was launched in Seattle a short while ago, because it's gambling on a format and on a new music focus that apparently isn't working whatsoever.

fwiw i think this makes perfect sense on aaa I agree. I don't really see how this is all that different from the alt country and Americana stuff that has gotten played on AAA stations since the 90s.

It's not the song per se, it's the revival of a song that came and went last year, despite there being some OUTSTANDING new music available in the same vein. Even if they're wanting to add a new alt-country/Americana lean, you have strong songs from Jason Isbell, Charley Crockett, Lone Bellow and Nikki Lane all currently on the chart (not even looking into stuff sitting in the 40s or just below - Daryl probably has a stronger pulse on those). Hell, they could even give Zach's newest single with Maggie Rogers, "Dawns," a shot. It's not my favorite by him because it starts a bit awkwardly, but it has a killer chorus (and 31 million streams on Spotify)

Triple ACs, if nothing else please move on to a different Zach Bryan song. "Quittin' Time" (from his last EP) is right there...is what I would say if I can only assume that Warner is wanting to ride out the remaining gasp of air that "SitO" still has.

Anyway, this mayhem will end next Wednesday when Mediabase makes the next panel changes, as eight noncomms will be added to offset the strength of commercial stations, affecting airplay of pop/HAC songs, especially those played over 30 times a week by a single station. (I'm looking at you Austin City Limits Radio!) This change cannot come fast enough.
As for my earlier post, I knew it would spark a conversation, lol. But while this fits AAA, why didn't stations play this when it was first released - no excuse because there was already buzz when it dropped. It would even have done better as two of the stations that heavied this have this at recurrent airplay levels.

Betwen Austin City Limits maxing the track and KBCO just adding this, it looks like they want to protest the new noncomms and want more mainstream material on the charts lol

And here we all thought the panel change would prevent something like this from happening...
56 49 ZACH BRYAN Something In The Orange 114 100 14 0.346

Keep hearing this on my local alt/aaa station (chattanooga 98.7). Weird to see it just starting to chart on this format, although it's had some pretty solid longevity on the Hot 100.

Still wasting precious space in the top 50 a month and a half later.
49 46 ZACH BRYAN Something In The Orange 103 99 4 0.345
We were very close to getting this out last week, but KBCO decided to put it to max rotation, with KINK remaxing it as well as a result. It is VERY clear to me KBCO is very well doing this to prevent newer material to enter the top 50 because they added this just after the panel change knocked it out of the top 50, and when the same thing happened last week, played it even more. And if that is true, could something actually be done about these tactics of chart manipulation?
(Also, to prove my point further of them having nothing else better to play besides recurrents or Hot 100 hits, NONE of the four stations having this as a current are playing Bully or have added a song by Arlo Parks.)
At this point I'm just hoping that this doesn't last to the end of the year and I have to track this for three years like Someone You Loved.

I would like to also highlight that non-monitored, locally-owned KMTN (Jackson, Wyoming) added this yesterday, so they're another victim to this. But it could very well be the fact they've played this before the Mediabase panel change, and they played it enough for it to count this week.
