So I doubt Super Freak will be a legacy song that people think of with Nicki in 30 years looking back at her career - what do we think those songs will be? I think sheβll be defined by Super Bass and Anaconda with Truffle Butter / Starships / Monster being the next βtierβ of Nicki hits people remember - what do you all think? Career defining moments are just that for a reason. Adele will never be defined by 30, BeyoncΓ© will never be defined by Renaissance, Lady Gaga will never be defined by Chromatica. When artists get that certain moment where everything truly falls into place it just not meant to be topped. BeyoncΓ© has Lemonade and past hits like Halo to define her career. Adele has the era of 21 and Hello to define her. Lady Gaga has the era of The Fame: Monster & Bad Romance Nicki has the eras of Pink Friday, and Starships and Anaconda. After having major eras like these, artists generally just settle for having fun. You canβt really beat your peak as an artist. U can try but will always fall short. Oh agree 100% - I think Nicki is a somewhat unique case because she caters heavily to multiple different audiences. Like I think thereβs a chunk of people that still bop letβs go to the beach beach but never heard Monster and thereβs a chunk of people who go on about Nickiβs verse in Monster as one of the best verses of all time who donβt even know Starships was Nicki

People tend to correlate Nickiβs immature behavior with her music. But from what Iβve seen, typically when people say she is βtoo old,β they are referring to the quality and content of the music sheβs releasing. Nicki really hasnβt shown any significant growth or development βas an artistβ in 15 years. She tends to to chase trends being led by whatever breakout male rapper of the moment, shade the rap girls, or sheβs recycling her old s**t and trying to convince us that itβs amazing by posting that itβs #1 on Shazaam in China. π₯΄ Anaconda was deserving of the #1 spot on the Hot 100. This cheap copy really doesnβt, and of course itβs not really going to have a lasting impression on her overall legacyβespecially if it nosedives down the charts like her past 20 releases have. But good for her for finally getting a solo #1. Sheβs def had her eyes on the prize ever since the new era of girls have come in and done it in less time, and with fewer antics. You made these comments as a Cardi B fan and not from an unbiased point of view. [invalid] You literally have no idea who Iβm fan of. I donβt even post here that often anymore. And those who actually are familiar with me know I am an advocate of all female rap, and typically started most of the threads about female rappers on this board. Perhaps youβre biased towards Nicki, and as a fan youβre looking to invalidate my point by trying to make this seem like some kind of stan war. Wrong person.

I love it! Nicki really broke into mainstream when she went fully Pop with her 2nd album. However, She was huge in the world of rap with her debut album. She created a fanbase for herself thatβs very hard to live up to. You canβt do multiple fully Pop eras if you claim the title Queen or Rap. & she canβt sell as much or be as successful by just rapping due to her audience being split. I think her Pop audience is much bigger than her rap audience tho. As soon as she released a Pop Song after 8 years, she finally has a global hit again. Itβs really tricky for her. Sheβll have to choose between being The Queen of Rap or Just being an Artist. & we know she prefers Rap.

So curious on what people think her legacy will be A groundbreaking, trail-blazing, door-opening female rapper. But 95% of that is due to her run from "Monster" into The Pinkprint. Nothing since has quite matched in impact, even if her fanbase inflates week 1 peaks. The problem most people have with Nicki, let's be honest, is that she isn't likable as a person and she's always working or getting involved with problematic people like her husband, 69 or even Dr. Puke. But none of that discredits the huge run she had. There'd be no Cardi, Megan, Doja or even Iggy if it wasn't for Onika. I think one needs to be cautious when calling this an already big, legacy win for her. For all the positive stats, it's doing well for a 2022 Nicki Minaj single but isn't quite setting the streamers on fire either. I think next week could go either way. Sales will be way down and she has little airplay to make up the gap, so those "#1 next week too" posts seem premature; streaming could, at best, be stable (and it's already slipping a little on Apple, so again, it could go either way).

She still the video to drop and VMA's, so that's a plus. Also, it seems like she can hop QR at any given time, so that's a lil promo too. Oh, and radio.
I forgot DWHAP? was getting a nice bit of airplay on the mainstream level.

NOt #1 on Shazaam in China!!! LMFAO! But in all seriousness, it is true. She really has not shown growth as an artist. It is literally the same thing every time. Adele, Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy, hell even Kesha has had more musical growth than Nicki Minaj. You spoke nothing but facts!! Edit: is SFG going to #1...does anyone know and who is in the lead for the #1 spot?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Roman Holiday as one of Nicki's legacy songs. That meme has still not died and probably won't for a long long time. Also I would argue Beauty And A Beat falls into this category as well. That one lyric is still a huge meme.

Lmao wtf else do yall want her to doπ She's done pop/dance/novelty songs, vulnerable songs, rap songs, pop features, rap features, pop rock features, SNL spoof songs...idk but yeah. Maybe some Jazz or Country this year?π€ or an Orchestra? I'm surprised no one has mentioned Roman Holiday as one of Nicki's legacy songs. RH is more of a Twitter meme, but I can be wrong(I have a Tik Tok, but I don't really use it as much.) And yeah, a few more memorable pop hits, like the one you mentioned with Bieber. Hell, her "Bottoms Up" verse still goes down, but I think that was mentioned in her most famous.

AIW is stable...I would rather BMS, AIW, ABDT, or even FC go back to #1 than this... Well, youβre in bad luck, as SFG is certainly getting a music video sometime within the next week that will, with the help of some radio gains, be able to patch up most of the sales losses, and 2 of the 4 songs you would rather go back to #1 have zero chance of going back there. On the other side, BMS still has no music video and AIW is what you said.

You hit it right on the nail. It is about the content of the song. Not showing any growth as an artist. And then to have this type of song be a #1 for a 39 year old is surprising. First, it is unusual seeing female rappers of a certain age continue to have big hits, especially a #1 song. Btw, I will be looking. I don't want it to go back to the early 00s, when only Nicki Minaj was able to be successful. We must admit since Cardi B arrived, other female rappers such as Meghan Thee Stallion, Latto, Lizzo, Coi Leray, Sweetie, City Girls and now Glorilla have been able to be successful and have hits.

Nicki looks and acts shockingly young for being middle aged
anyway since everyone's talking about her legacy, here's some of her most iconic lines: -that crazy verse in Super Bass -let's go to the beach beach -all of Anaconda -all around the world, do you hear me? -that line in Beauty & A Beat
Most underrated song: Pound The Alarm

People were consuming music from male rappers back then. But it was just Nicki's music being consumed for the female rappers? I wish Remy Ma and Azealia Banks were able to breakthrough and have a few top 40 hits back then. Heck, even Rapsody could have had at least a song or two to just enter the chart.

Oh no doubt, but I feel more verse eventually eclipsed it? I mean it's still being quoted and referenced in full to this day by hip-hop and pop fans, feel like it's her most respected verse Itβs probably because its on the same album which is widely called one of the best hip hop projects of the 2010s let alone of all time. Rick Ross also has his most respected verse on MBDTF as well.
