It's a good song but it's worn out now

It's crazy how y'all turn on songs so fast just because they're uber popular. Maybe don't listen to the popular songs if u don't wanna hear them everyday?

After see back to back increase in streams on day 6, day 7 and day 8, along with the possibility of the music video coming this week; Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” is currently expected to spend a second week atop the Billboard Hot 100.

DJ Earworm put out his annual summer mashup I like glimpse of us but including it on this mashup was terrible- every time it cut in it was so sudden and abrupt

Without sales, Super Freaky Girl would debut either right at or below Heat Waves… which is honestly better than I thought? (According to this prediction)

For me, Super Freaky Girl would be the worse #1 song of the year.

He hasn’t made his weekly updates to his threads in a bit. Probably had to go make this. He’ll be back soon to solicit ideas for the yearend one I suppose.

Sales are 39% of points in this prediction So to calculate without sales you do 252-252*.39 which equals 153.7 points, ergo right between Heat Waves and First Class

For me, Super Freaky Girl would be the worse #1 song of the year. I don't get the appeal of it either, and it doesn't stand out to me from her recent output, so it's a little puzzling why it's doing so well, but I am a fan of a lot of Nicki's earlier work and her overall, so if she is having a legit possibly long-standing hit with this, I'm happy for her.

Because PopNicki is favored over UrbanNicki its been explained before. It's crazy how y'all turn on songs so fast just because they're uber popular. Maybe don't listen to the popular songs if u don't wanna hear them everyday? Bingo!

If she dropped at least one pop song per year her resume would have been even BIGGER!

I absolutely agree. It is puzzling as to why it is doing so well. Imo, Nicki peaked 6 years ago. That's when her more stronger, quality material was released. Also, this is unusual for a 39 year old rapper who has been in the industry for 13 years to be getting a #1 debut. And it is following a 40 year old artist return to the top.

Maybe Megan Thee Stallion being 27 could get away with performing that type of song but for a 39 year old it comes off very juvenile.

I tried with SFG because I like Pop Onika but it was boring and too reliant on the sample. Pass.

Why does age still matter in this era? We had artists much older getting hits like Elton John (75!) and Kate Bush (64, technically 37 when she recorded RUTH but still close to Nicki’s age right now). Kanye is 45 and still had a huge album bomb with Donda and Beyonce is 40 and just literally went to #1 just for examples. For more reference, Lizzo is 34, Drake is 35, and Future is 38.
So why does age only become concerning when it comes to Nicki?

I find it extremely absurd. But it’s always very selective because Beyoncé was just very blunt in her album at 40 years old and people love it. But Nicki Minaj being blunt at 39 years old is somewhat an issue because she’s “too grown”. It’s a weird narrative and perspective.

People tend to correlate Nicki’s immature behavior with her music.
But from what I’ve seen, typically when people say she is “too old,” they are referring to the quality and content of the music she’s releasing. Nicki really hasn’t shown any significant growth or development “as an artist” in 15 years. She tends to to chase trends being led by whatever breakout male rapper of the moment, shade the rap girls, or she’s recycling her old shit and trying to convince us that it’s amazing by posting that it’s #1 on Shazaam in China. 🥴
Anaconda was deserving of the #1 spot on the Hot 100. This cheap copy really doesn’t, and of course it’s not really going to have a lasting impression on her overall legacy—especially if it nosedives down the charts like her past 20 releases have. But good for her for finally getting a solo #1. She’s def had her eyes on the prize ever since the new era of girls have come in and done it in less time, and with fewer antics.

So I doubt Super Freak will be a legacy song that people think of with Nicki in 30 years looking back at her career - what do we think those songs will be?
I think she’ll be defined by Super Bass and Anaconda with Truffle Butter / Starships / Monster being the next “tier” of Nicki hits people remember - what do you all think?

But Nicki Minaj being blunt at 39 years old is somewhat an issue because she’s “too grown”. It’s a weird narrative and perspective. Im assuming because it possibly did affect a few artists(Madonna, Katy to just name two). Of course "Super Bass", "Starships", "Anaconda" will be massive worldwide ones people will remember. She has an extensive catalog regardless. Her fanbase is hella dedicated and supportive when needed. Also, Republic is on the ball with getting SFG to all the right areas, more quick than DWHAP?. Although, imo, that was a sleeper hit(UrbanNicki)

Career defining moments are just that for a reason. Adele will never be defined by 30, Beyoncé will never be defined by Renaissance, Lady Gaga will never be defined by Chromatica. When artists get that certain moment where everything truly falls into place it just not meant to be topped. Beyoncé has Lemonade and past hits like Halo to define her career. Adele has the era of 21 and Hello to define her. Lady Gaga has the era of The Fame: Monster & Bad Romance Nicki has the eras of Pink Friday, and Starships and Anaconda. After having major eras like these, artists generally just settle for having fun. You can’t really beat your peak as an artist. U can try but will always fall short.
