Was the Monster verse Nicki’s first big moment? At that point she would’ve had Your Love out which was a modest hit- did she have anything else? I distinctly remember BedRock being really big. AMTV played that video to death first quarter 2010. Saw it every day while getting ready for school. Even went to #2. I could be wrong but I think it was her first top 10...

It’s interesting because “Monster” def was her big moment, but I still feel like she was under the radar at that point. Monster has the best reputation and after life but you are right. It was “BedRock” that was her first mainstream moment. I don’t even think she’s credited on that song is she? I’m not sure if Billboard would count it as her hit since it was billed as Young Money. And then after that I remember her stealing the show in “Bottoms Up” which was her first big hit feature that went Top 10 and she got credited. Shortly after that “Super Bass” became an unexpected breakway hit.

I tried with SFG because I like Pop Onika but it was boring and too reliant on the sample. Pass. Yeah my issue the reliance on the sample since the original is a classic, but maybe current teens and even twentysomethings aren't as familiar with it as the rest of us. I think samples are fine if they're used minimally, as in SFG's case. I think it's enough of its own song

I must admit that there are other songs by Shawn Colvin I like more than Sunny Came Home but it's nice to see the song get some love.

I would say that "Nothin' On Me" is my favorite of hers that I have heard, and I like "You And The Mona Lisa" and "A Whole New You" as much as "Sunny Came Home." I haven't discovered her more than her two biggest albums though, personally.

Beyond those I haven’t explored her music much but I do enjoy her sound. She also has a whole bunch of soundtrack songs too from around that time.

I find it hilarious that Nicki is being criticized for “lack of artistic growth” when literally all the other girls have recycled their sound and have not had any growth at all lol. Cardi’s last song sounds like UP 2.0 and definetly lacked any growth. In fact, most of her solo material sounds the same to me (Press, Money sound like Bodak Yellow knock offs). The ugly truth is that she has never been able to recreate the magic of her debut single, and lacks on her own as a solo rapper. Most of her hits are the other artist carrying her song. Megan is another one who basically has the same flow in every song. And she’s never had a solo hit. Lizzo basically recycled Juice and Good as Hell to create ADT Doja Cat is the only one changing it up and taking risks and IRONICALLY her biggest influence is Nicki. Is SFG kind of a safe song for Nicki? Sure. But she certainly did change it up before we landed on this. I’m tired of people talking about age and what they should be doing. Elton John is 75 and still recycling his sound (and even remixing his own music. Yet he’s being hailed as innovative). Sounds like people are just salty about Nicki’s success and her continuing to outsmart and outperform the competition despite how many times you’ve tried to knock her out. None of these acts have been around since pre-2010.

Either they’re stan-baiting by withholding the reveal, or there’s genuinely a close race for the top spot. I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

I'm only a casual fan, but I have to agree that Nicki has changed quite a lot artistically over the years, and the reason I say this is because we all came to know her as this sort-of-novelty act, a rapper that made silly faces and puns on the regular, and she become more serious and grounded overtime, to the point where, if I'm honest, I missed her fun antics. So, I'm enjoying "Super Freaky Girl" and rooting for it to be a true hit, cos it is at least more fun than any of her songs in the last... 8 years, wow.

When we have delayed top ten reveals, we get drama like Levitating not hitting #1 due to sales filters, so it's not an unreasonable response.

Put on your seatbelts for the freefall next week. I don't see it outside of the top 10. It's still top 3 on Spotify, top 15 AM, #6 and #14 on iTunes, and with much more airplay than this week.
