Although it wasn’t a hit I for some reason thought of Dusty Drake’s song “One Last Time”.

Seems like I'm in the minority, but I don't like this one. And I've loved many of the other songs mentioned in this thread with "Whiskey Lullaby" being one of my favorite songs of all time. Will give it some additional listens, but doesn't do much for me initially.

Okay y'all: Am I the only one that hears some of "Homeboy" on this? Loving it even more now. Still curious to see if radio would take it all the way, but it's going to be a big song regardless.

It sounds like a smash to me? Well, let me put it this way, if it isn’t it’s a good example of how sad modern country radio is.
This is great and very dark lyrically and musically. Which is right up my alley lol. I adore Lainey Wilson and she sounds divine on this, her vocals are country perfection. Hardy sounds great too actually and I genuinely really like him when he does good songs like this one. An A+ song all around.

I agree with many posters that I really like the darkness and storytelling of this tune. At first, I was hoping that Renee Blair as a writer was featured in this song, but after giving a couple of listens, I came to conclude that Lainey's chorus vocal suits perfectly to the dark vibe. I honestly don't like the melody, and it is not my style, but the awesomeness of the lyrics is stronger than my slight discomfort with the melody.

I remember country radio playing "Goodbye Earl" this song is no different than that.

I remember country radio playing "Goodbye Earl" this song is no different than that. It's a lot different. Earl was a tongue and cheek song that was comical while this song has nothing funny about it. On top of that, radio really didn't play it. The Chicks were about as big as they would ever be at the time and even though, "Goodbye Earl," is one of their signature songs, it didn't even make the top 10 at radio (and like I said, this is when The Chicks were at their peak).

That’s the way country radio was at the time. It’s still their signature and most popular song. Independence Day by Martina McBride only got to #12 and it’s by far her signature hit.

This song is so great! It is honestly one of those songs that keeps getting better the more I hear it.

I’m really interested to see how his album debuts in a couple weeks as I feel like he has more buzz than A Rock era, which performed and still is performing solidly. He’ll have some solid airplay from this in country radio as well as JACK on active radio supporting the release so I’m super interested to see what level he’s at now vs. other current rising stars and the A listers.

This song was in CMT's New Releases Playlist on Spotify that I always look at to discover new music, so I mistakenly assumed it was just another pre-release. I forgot his album was coming today.

I forgot his album was coming today. the mockingbird & THE CROW is a pretty good album, though my favorite songs for the most part (excepting a couple of really good album cuts from the country half) were all pre-release singles.

I remain obsessed with this song. Lainey sounds absolutely heavenly on it and live she just kills it, always. Love her so much.
I didn't really care for the album that much, although I like the rock half fine. "wait in the truck" is easily the highlight on the record, however.

Looks like this is going for max spins this week and I think history is probably gonna repeat itself for Lainey Wilson as I think this is gonna be a Mediabase only #1 and probably peak at #2 on Billboard thanks to Bailey Zimmerman "Rock And A Hard Place" (same song and everything) as there is just such a large audience gap to overcome (Bailey Zimmerman had a 10 million audience lead on "Wait In The Truck" on Billboard on last weeks chart) that I can't see "Wait In The Truck" closing the gap enough by Friday.

Really curious to see what he picks as the next single. “Truck Bed” is the most popular album track, but would it work at country radio? It’s from the rock side of the album and would really stick out, but also could generate a ton of buzz. “Red” is amazing but timing might not work out since Morgan just dropped his mega album. “Here Lies Country Music” and “Drink One For Me” seem like they could fit country radio well as too.

I’m not sure what his next single will be but I wonder if he’s gonna go for the strategy they’re doing with Jelly Roll and release the same song to country and rock formats like Need a Favor. I feel like the “safe” country format choice is the song with Morgan but usually when I say something’s the safe choice with a star attached, it underperforms (Eg. Flower Shops) while a song like TRUCK BED could work on both formats though not being the “safer” choice. I would go with the latter tbh with a multi format push. It’s also doing better on Shazam than Red , which counts for something.

The fact it limped into the top 20 is purely because of radio's infatuation with Morgan Wallen. If it were a solo song or a duet with someone without that huge pull, I think it would've been lucky to graze the top 40 for ERNEST. It wasn't a radio-friendly song at all, whereas "Red" would probably be the definition of a 'safe' release and get to the top of the charts with relative ease. There's nothing polarizing about it at all by comparison. "Truck Bed" would probably be the best choice if they want to make a big splash though.
