What are some hit songs from any era that most people know? When I say most people, I mean a song that a young kid or even your grandma knows. Some songs are so popular that most people know it no matter how old they are.

A good example is All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. Another one is We Will Rock You by Queen.

Uptown Funk
Hot 100: 14 weeks at #1 Sales: 13 weeks at #1 Streaming: 12 weeks at #1 Radio: 12 weeks at #1
It still gets a good amount of recurrent play today, on both Pop and R&B stations, and is regularly in the daily Top 50 most viewed YouTube videos.

Happy Birthday Over The Rainbow I'm asking for hit songs. Happy Birthday is not a hit song. LOL-disagree According to the Guiness Book of World Records - the most recognized song in the English language and a song everyone knows - including everyone's Grandma.

Did it ever chart on Billboard? No it didnt. In my opinion both the songs I mentioned fit the criteria as widely known hit songs that even your Grandma knows. The original - Over The Rainbow predates the Hot 100 (although has been covered many times - also who hasn't seen 'Wizard of Oz'?). Happy Birthday - also a song that predates the Hot 100 but widely performed daily to this day. (until recently had a copyright to it where someone somewhere was collecting royalties) But a "hit song" apparently must have been on a Billboard chart to qualify for your correct answer - Good to know

*sigh*
Being well known doesn't make something a "hit" anymore than being more remembered doesn't make something a bigger hit than something that became forgotten over the years. Unless there's a definitive version out there from a musical or by an artist who made it a hit, or the song was a big seller as a piece of sheet music in the 1920s or 1890s or whatever, "Happy Birthday" was never actually a hit. It's a piece of music that became a part of society's conscious. Otherwise, we may as well add in the alphabet, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and all the other nursery rhymes that everyone and their grandma knows.

It’s kinda hard to judge which songs are familiar across all ages, as music tends to evolve with generations. When one generation gets older, music shifts to appeal more towards the next generation. We’re seeing this now with more TikTok songs becoming popular in the mainstream.

Christmas standards that chart now virtually every year - most of which kids know as well as 80 year old granny and would meet the OP definition of hit as these are regularly in the top 40 now every December
Jingle Bells White Christmas Rudolph Frosty the Snowman
and many others

True, somehow Christmas songs are more and more prominent on the chart each year, so much that they even make the year end list.

I’d be surprised if grandma didn’t know baby shark. Me? I only heard it for the first time a year or so ago, and it was probably from a MsMojo video or something talking about it as a phenomenon.

I would say Take On Me. It’s been played sooo much on the radio and in so many movies and tv shows. I think everyone recognizes it at this point.

These two might be pushing it a little bit. But...
Aint No Other Man by Christina Aguilera. I mean, who dosent know the iconic HEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE. Just saying.
And this one is really pushing it, but You Make Me Feel. I feel like the na na na na na is too recognizable for it not to be mentioned.

It's very forgotten about, but once people hear that na na na na na they instantly recognize it.

I'm sorry, but where do you hear "na na na na na" in You Make Me Feel? also, you have much more famous nana and lala songs than You Make Me Feel: It's the opening lines of the song, and follows every instance of the phrase "you make me feel good" in the chorus. Also, the video you linked appears to be region-blocked.
