Crawdads is getting bad reviews (currently 34% on RT). Doesn't completely disqualify her from Oscar contention but certainly doesn't help, either. She needs to pick better movies to contribute songs to (and to act in). How are you about to say Amsterdam is bad when it isn’t even out yet lol Maybe to OP means either quality movies or movies without controversy, as both can lead to negative press. Yes, and just in general every movie she's acted in has been pretty bad, lol. Test screenings of Amsterdam have apparently been disastrous but we'll see. well did i lie |

Man I hate this album rollout. Why even announce the album ahead of time if we're not gonna get a single. To me the only reason for Taylor to announce ahead of time is to force a radio hit. The track list reveals in of themself are fine. But the inconsistency and not knowing when they're coming and this newest one being a different format just ugg. Obviously anticipating the album greatly but everything about this lead up feels like a total flub to me

Man I hate this album rollout. Why even announce the album ahead of time if we're not gonna get a single. To me the only reason for Taylor to announce ahead of time is to force a radio hit. The track list reveals in of themself are fine. But the inconsistency and not knowing when they're coming and this newest one being a different format just ugg. Obviously anticipating the album greatly but everything about this lead up feels like a total flub to me I mean, she did still post a TikTok episode of that Midnights Mayhem thing, it’s just that this is the song that got a little bit extra treatment, likely because people started growing bored of the TikTok series. Anyways, I cashed in on the signed CDs—pre-ordered the standard cover, since that’s the edition I hadn’t bought a vinyl or CD copy of. Not seeing how this is building any hype or what the point of announcing early was, beyond getting more front loaded sales (still hoping for a milli). *Especially* in this weak ass market right now, she could have had a multi-week number one song and put away some of the 'TaYlOr sOnGs DoNT hAve LoNgEvItY' crap. Makes me wonder if there isn't anything palatable for radio, but could just be me being cynical. So it seems like she's just announcing a new song M-W-F and if we keep at this rate we'll get them all the Wednesday before Friday album release. My highest hope would be (since it is likely that she is picking the way these roll out) that this Fri or next she says the track and says 'and actually..... it's the first single and it's out today', but I may be wishing for too much. |

Yeah, I’m on team give us more too. The VMAs was a good platform to announce the album but doing next to nothing after, maybe not so much. We’ve seen 28 different versions up for pre-order and I’m sure there are people out there who’ve ordered each and every one, but without a song or anything there’s only so excited I can be. Get those padded sales I guess?

I'm bored as well to the point I forgot all about Midnight Mayhems. I'm glad she gave a little more info last night but all I really want is a single. Or I wish she played about 10 seconds of each song.

It's not that there isn't anything to do or listen to, it's that most of us aren't hyped for this album. We know basically nothing about it. And that's totally fine when you announce an album a few days before release like evermore and folklore, but when there's a month and a half between announcement and release and all you're doing is giving us meaningless titles? How is anyone supposed to be excited over that? At least describe the track or give backstory on the track each day so we have some context. Otherwise she's just spouting random words at us.
I don't think it's at all rude or selfish or whining to just say that we're bored and don't care about this Midnight Mayhem thing. Honestly, I'd rather she just be completely silent entirely about it. At least that would have built up mystery.

Okay, my only issue with the way that things are playing out is that Taylor is selling many different versions of an album that nobody has heard a single thing from. When an artist releases a single ahead of time - it gives listeners an option to decide if they want to pursue listening to the full project and purchasing or - if they don't like the single that was released, they may not bother checking out the album as a whole.
The way that Taylor is doing it, is that it doesn't allow people time to decide if they want the album or not. Because every version of the album she announces, becomes sold out in minutes. Of all of those people that purchased the special editions without even hearing a single song from the album yet - I bet some of them probably won't like it because that's just how it works. And of course you could say, well "why don't you wait until the album comes out?" - and to that, most of the special editions will have been sold out by then (as they already are). So it's really a now or never situation and I truly wish we at least have snippets from the album to decide if we want to buy the music. I know that most people stream nowadays however there are people that collect albums still.

What's interesting about this campaign, is that tactics she would usually employ to get an album to re-peak/increase longevity (i.e. vinyls, signed cds, etc.) are now being utilized for the opening week sales. Wonder if that means she has a specific goal in regards to opening week, since, even without any of these tactics, a #1 album is essentially guaranteed.
Anyway, per an ATRL insider there are currently no plans to release a lead single before the album is released. Although apparently, this wasn't the original plan and it was Taylor herself that insisted on not releasing a lead single before the album release. |
