Tonight is my Eras Tour movie experience! Gonna rock my rep skullie and bring the Target edition of the Lover CD with the journal and ask people to write in it, since I never touched it myself. They can write whatever they want, but I might ask them to write why they love Taylor/what connects her to them. I'm gonna pop half an 80mg edible, so I pray I don't fall asleep, LOL.

Why the hell did Taylor spend money on an βI Can See Youβ MV then cut Speak Now (TV) era so short. Tbh I rather have had a Cruel Summer and Getaway Car MV rather than ICSY. M I think she used the I Can See You MV just like she did with "Bejeweled" for Midnights as an Easter Eggs filled MV to create a bit more buzz to enhance the promotion of the album in this case it would be the Speak Now (TV) the Album, but not necessary towards giving the song a big push initially. If the song clicked with the fans and having huge longevity on streaming organically like Cruel Summer, I think the label would have pushed it a bit more. But it just did not work out that way eventually.

M Her team didn't plan on Cruel Summer being a single. Cruel Summer was only made a single by her team after she had already filmed the I Can See You video. The initial plan was likely to push I Can See You on radio but with Cruel Summer smashing and Karma/Anti Hero still hanging around it didn't make sense for them to undermine them by pushing I Can See You. In addition, if she didn't have at least one mv for SN TV her fanbase would riot. They already though she hated SN because only enchanted was initially performed at the tour. The video made most her fans happy and I Can See You gets around 700K daily spotify streams which is great for a vault track.

I Can See You has to be Taylor's most underrated single this year. Great song that got overshadowed unexpectedly by Cruel Summer. The Karma Remix with Ice Spice wasn't going to much anyway. As for the new Cruel Summer remixes, they are nice it beings new life to the song.

Now that we have an official audio version of "Cruel Summer" from the tour, I really truly hope we get an Eras Tour live album. I keep returning to the arrangements of "illicit affairs" and "my tears ricochet" and would LOVE to have them in my library. Plus the vocal delivery of "Don't Blame Me" live needs to be streamable.

It seems like every Taylor era has that one track that fans adore that either got skipped during the commercial push or developed a following over the years.
Which 'Midnights' track might add to that legacy aka become a hit in 2027-2030?

It's hard to tell how it will be perceived in the near future because it "snuck" into immortality by way of the being the acoustic song chosen for the film. I love myself some Midnight Rain (which I keep hearing in stores? lol) and Maroon, but this one seems so different from the rest of the album that I can see it having at least a minor cult following for years to come.

I would love if they went all in on August at some point. Imagine hearing that on the radio, it would be incredible.

I am NOT a Taylor Swift fan (i barely even like her) but i am EXTREMELY happy that Cruel Summer is finally number 1. I have really grown to love the song and it deserves to hit the top spot.

Also it inspired all swifties to exchange friendship bracelets so that will ensure it always has a minor cult.

Her slump eras were 100% Folkflore and Evermore. But they were folk albums so that was by design in some sense obviously

Folklore was not a slump by any means. If anything, it was responsible for the igniting the second wind in her career.

lol folklore was not a slump at all. It still places very highly on the Billboard 200 week by week and, as Caviar noted, Taylor wouldn't be in her current imperial phase if it weren't for the good will she gained from that album and evermore.
Taylor has always been graded on a curve because the bar for her is so high. Any of her contemporaries would wish to have the kind of success she's had with the albums pop culture fans consider her "flops." Just look at reputation, which even Taylor seems to consider a low point based on her documentary: it debuted at #1 with over a million copies sold in the US alone and had a #1 single (LWYMMD) and another huge radio hit ("Delicate") along with a gigantic stadium tour. If that's what she considers a flop, then that says everything about how blessed she's been her entire career.

Let's be real - Reputation and Lover were underperfomers for Taylor when they came out. Her resurgence in popularity that came with folklore/evemore, the re-releasing of her catalog, the pandemic etc helped turn those albums from relative flops into fan favorites. Plenty of people who today die for songs like Cruel Summer, Getaway Car, Paper Rings, Don't Blame Me, even the title track "Lover" were not checking for Taylor when those albums were released, did not purchase tickets to the Reputation Tour.

I think her later albums have really helped reputation have a critical reappraisal. In the context of her personal and professional narrative, that album makes a lot more sense now.

And just for context, Folklore, the beautiful gift that keeps giving, has moved over 1.2m units this year already. Her total sales on this album are great by all standards. Evermore has also moved 750k copies.

I think anyone who ever considered either Reputation or Lover as "flops" are delusional at best and I'll stand on that.

OMG. Anyone who considers she has been struggled as flop ever? Is there anybody outsell physical copies compared to her today? evermore released 1 version of CD / Cassette / LP(+target).

Were rep/Lover obvious declines for *her*? Yes.
Were rep/Lover major successes by any other standard? Yes.
These are both/and. They were still hugely successful by any other metric if we arenβt comparing them against Swiftβs previous and future efforts.
Calling folklore/evermore underperformers though isβ¦a differently different choice!

Awesome. Now they need to send it for certification when the Grammys go into the final round of voting.

Thatβs technically the Late Night edition, which is missing Glitch and Paris, but adds Youβre Losing Me and the Karma and SOTB remixes (no Hit Different). Previously exclusively available at her concerts.
Wondering if sheβs pushing for #1 the week of December 15? Hopefully proper 3AM/complete collection physicals are coming too.
