“Doing well” is still relative to the situation.

Would that be covered in the sub-component charts though? Billboard painstakingly breaks down it's formula into sub charts specifically for this reason (e.g. Sales Chart, Streaming Chart, Airplay Chart). Wouldn't they be satisfied with whatever chart has their personal preference than getting upset about the Hot 100 specifically? Well, no, because those charts aren't the Hot 100 and aren't what will be remembered in an historical sense. If "HMC" had debuted #1 in sales but not made the top 10 of the Hot 100, people couldn't talk about Britney making the top 10 in 4 decades, as an example.

It is not about the Billboard formula directly - never has been It is about why is some other song #1 over <insert your favorite song>? The formula is then obviously flawed because what "feels" like #1 TO ME is not reflected in the larger formula so something must be wrong. The answer to why isn't <favorite song> #1 and something else is?---- Personal charts --- then you can have whatever you want as #1 Right. Hence people thinking I need to have heard a song to comment on whether or not it's doing well. It would help if you hear the song first before you comment, but declaring a song dead after less than 3 weeks after release is a huge no-no on Pulse, and especially forbidden on the CHR/Pop forum. Besides, debuting at #6 on the Hot 100 and flying up the Pop/radio charts is doing well last time I checked.

I may not be following but if what you mentioned was the case that would mean there were other aspects of it's chart components that the song failed in, in order to miss the top 10. For your example, that would mean radio and streaming failed or weren't enough to get HMC to chart in the top 10. If a song doesn't do well on three metrics to some degree that means the song will not chart high. That's standard charting. That situation would be the case for most periods of history on the Hot 100. You had to have strong metrics across all or most of the components in order to chart better.

I agree with you on the why and such; I was just explaining why fans wouldn't be happy just looking at the component charts.

How many times do we have to say that just because you’re at #1 on a metric doesn’t mean you’ll be #1 on the Hot 100? Anyway I can’t take anymore arguments about this so I’ll just move on for now lol. I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree. To be honest, I just want AIW's run at #1 to end permanently so we don't have to worry about this topic ever again. I really don't want to argue this anymore either. F's in the chat for phieagles, since we won't have to worry about him bringing up anything again.

A forgone conclusion at this point - but tomorrows charts will crown As It Was as the song of the summer 2022

It has been #1 on the songs of the summer for its entire countdown, so yes, it is inevitable at this point.

Congrats to “As It Was” for smashing so hard (and to these threads for hopefully not being derailed by this topic anymore)

i wonder about certain songs' peaks if, like on the global 200, artist webstore sales weren't counted for the hot 100.
running up that hill got 3 weeks on top of the former.
