Seeing them tonight, so excited!!! There's 3 opening acts, though, and all of which I have no interest in seeing, so even though the show starts at 6:30, I have a feeling I can wait until like 8:30 to show up and still be fine lol. I know it's probably a hot take, but I've heard Japanese Breakfast enough through rankdowns here to know I have no interest in seeing her live. I have no idea who Claud even are. And Young the Giant would be cute to see, but... meh. Thank god we have reserved seating tickets and not general admission lol.
I really love the setist I've been seeing from the previous shows. Since they only have one new track out, it's filled to the brim with classics, and it's fairly After Laughter heavy, which is a huge plus IMO. Seems like Hayley slipped "Simmer" into the setlist too which is badass! Cannot wait!

They put on such an amazing show! Hayley seems like such a genuinely good person too. Her interactions with the crowd were amazing, and she's a top notch performer. Her energy is incredibly infectious and it spreads like wildfire through the entire crowd. Seeing them live truly is an amazing experience. The show itself was great too. The setlist was very well put together, IMO, and despite the lack of any cool smoke/pyrotechnic/light effects or whatever, the graphics for the screen behind them were very well down and matched the vibes perfectly. For anyone curious, this was the setlist (in spoilers ofc) This Is Why Brick by Boring Brick Decode Caught in the Middle That's What You Get Ignorance Forgiveness I Caught Myself Pool Misguided Ghosts Simmer (a solo Hayley song?!) Ain't It Fun Boogie Juice (lol at Zac getting a solo moment) Rose-Colored Boy (the last bit Hayley threw in a bit of Whitney's I Wanna Dance with Somebody and BEP's My Humps lol) Told You So Misery Business (Hayley brought up like 6 fans to help sing the bridge and final chorus)
Encore: Still Into You Hard Times (Hayley brought a bit of Blondie's Heart of Glass into this one as well) Also, Hayley wore a shirt that said "Abort the Supreme Court" and announced the a portion of the ticket sales would go to fund women's right to choose and the crowd erupted in cheers, it was f**king beautiful. I also wound up catching most of Young the Giant's set too, surprisingly. They were pretty fun too. I forgot how much I enjoyed "Superposition" from them.

An interview about the album with Zane Lowe just came out.
I thought the interview was absolutely amazing. Things really seemed to loosen up after Taylor admitted how anxious he was, and I love how Zane and all the band members were so quick to support him and lift him up. From that point on in the interview, there was such a shift in how comfortable they all were, and it's probably the most authentic and open I've seen them in an interview. Based on the snippet of "Running Out of Time," it sounds like it could be one of my favorites.

I loved the first half of the album, but the second half wasn't quite as strong for me. I'm not a huge fan of their first three albums, and it felt quite reminiscent of that in a lot of ways. That being said, it was by no means a bad album and I thought all the songs were well-made; the second half of the album just wasn't my thing. 'After Laughter' remains my favorite of their albums.

A solid but not quite stellar follow-up to After Laughter. Whoever thought to sequence tracks 1-4 the way they are is a genius. Definitely the strongest songs on the album and an immediate add to my usual "everyday listening" Spotfy playlist. I agree with RoseColoredGirl, I felt the back half lacked the punch of the first and they even reminded me of the melodic meandering of Hayley's solo material (which I wasn't too thrilled with when released in 2020), where the songs don't go far but are nice to listen to as background noise while cleaning the house or cooking. Standouts: This Is Why The News Running Out of Time C'est Comme Ca You First Liar (so pretty, and incredibly relateable) Also, I prefer the Target exclusive cover over the standard retail, so I had to grab that version this morning.

IMMACULATELY produced. Also, everyone is perforning so welll. It feels more like an extension of Hayley's solo stuff, but this is a very good album. I went through hell to get the Target edition today ( SHOOTER knows), but it was worth it. I definitely see this being one of my faves of 2023. C'est Comme Ca Thick Skull Figure 8 This Is Why The News Crave Running Out Of Time Big Man, Little Dignity Liar You First

Absolutely a step down from After Laughter, but I was fully expecting that. After Laughter is a masterpiece that would be difficult to even match again, let alone top. That being said, it's still a wonderfully solid album and I have to echo the sentiment Ivy Leegue™ mentioned about its production. It's probably, upon first listen, my third favorite album from them following After Laughter and Riot. My highlights: This Is Why The News Running Out of Time C'est Comme Ca You First Figure 8 I'm ecstatic to see alternative radio embracing them so hard with "This Is Why," and I hope they continue to do so with "Running Out of Time." They deserve it so much.

Finally picked this up! I loved After Laughter so much, not sure what took me so long.
I do agree with previous posters that it loses steam in the back half, but there's nothing on here truly off the mark ("Thick Skull" is the only skip for me, but it's the closer and perfectly harmless). I have to commend the playing on this, some really subtle but effective work. Love the drumming especially. "This Is Why" is such a 10/10, the groove, the shuffling rhythms and changing tempos, the lyrics perfectly capturing pandemic paranoia and malaise. Should have won a damn Grammy, but whatevs! I'm really tempted to catch them on tour this time.

This Is Why wins the Grammy for both Best Alternative Music Performance and makes history by becoming the first by a female-fronted band to win Best Rock Album.

Legit floored that they won, but good for them! It's also cool that they won in both rock and alternative categories.
