Material Girl has 552,960 points, and ranked at the #58 song of 1985! #58! And it peaked in March! It wouldn't even matter what month it peaked!
Unforgettable, the #15 song of 2017 with plenty of weeks in the top 10, has just 522,672 points!
Utterly absurd!
But I guess it the absurdness goes away when you realize that Madonna's Material Girl is a more iconic song than Unforgettable.

7 people voted yes.
Material Girl was number #58 in the year-end! #58! And Unforgettable was #15!

I don't know why this needed a thread, but whatever. Keep in mind that the year-end charts were different in 1985, and if a song peaked in 1985 its entire chart run was counted even if some of those weeks were in the 1984 chart year. Some examples: "I Feel For You" is #5 on the year-end Hot 100 yet debuted on the September 8, 1984 chart "Out of Touch" is #6 on the year-end Hot 100 yet debuted on the September 29, 1984 chart
My guess is "Material Girl" would have been ahead of both of those songs (and more) on a year-end Hot 100 that didn't include the 1984 chart weeks for songs.

I don't even know why they did that, but I am aware. Similar to the way Rock On The Net does year-ends. But that definitely makes it odd that the #15 song of 2017 is below the #58 song of 1985! Number 58!!! Though, I've also, of course, been aware that 1985 has a x2.0 and 2017 has a x0.8. You may find 1985's multiplier generous, and I honestly find it a little generous too. 2017, though, I get that the top three songs were in the top 10 for very large amounts of time, but there are hardly any other songs that have more points than Material Girl! (#4, Humble, does not, nor does #5, Something Just Like This!)
