The OG is also charting on Amazon Music. I think some of the standards set for Taylor are unrealistic and their intent is super transparent too

I mean, if the discourse you’re talking about is what I think it’s about (aka a certain man who I will not name in the interest of not creating a firestorm, but who is in a band lol), much of the discourse is exclusive to Twitter and is a lot of rehashed talking points from two groups of people: 

1) people who have a way too unhealthy, deeply parasocial relationship with Taylor and are under the very false assumption that they know her (and Jack, and Aaron, and her entire inner circle) personally

2) queer people who call themselves fans of Taylor who would rather take her lyrics and apply them to her personal life in a way that shoves a lesbian label down her throat, ignoring the very many times she has explicitly said she is straight as a result, instead of interpreting those lyrics in a way that fits their own personal lives

And I promise you that just about nobody outside of twitter dot com gives a damn. She is untouchable at this point, for better or for worse (depending on how one views/feels about her), and people outside of the fandom have clearly been clamoring for Speak Now TV for quite some time. The number of likes on its announcement post on her Instagram eclipsed that of Midnights (her latest album of entirely new material, mind you) to become her most liked post on the platform. Well over 10 million likes the last time I looked. The general public has not been in love with her to such a level since the peak of the 1989 era, and I would argue the love is actually even deeper than that right now.

Absolutely this! People consistently forget that social media conversations still don't reflect the overall market, and Twitter conversations don't even reflect all of social media. You take someone like Morgan Wallen, who is still persona non grata in Twitter pop/music circles but is showcased very positively on TikTok and Instagram, where very famous influencers and artists (many of whom are liberal or moderate ... certainly not diehard conservatives) are rocking out to his stuff.

In this case, the male potential boyfriend in question hasn't even been close to canceled in his own right ... so it's preposterous to think Taylor herself is at risk of being canceled over it. She has the hottest show in town, her music is still doing well, and people are all about her at the moment.

Too big of a points difference. Remixes and website sales can only close a small gap , they don't sell that much. ( The only time that website sales would have been enough to close such a big gap was the third week of anti hero when swifties though buying it would boost their chances of getting into the tour presale).

Cardigan and Willow definitely benefitted from website sales… and they tried releasing LH remixes to boost sales but they were staggered. I think if she would have released several remixes of Karma, fans would have jumped at the opportunity to get it to #1. I’m curious to see how much website sales it got this week since there’s no way to predict that.
