It's shocking how slow this record's climb up the chart has been! It's a pretty standard country chart climb all things considered especially given Kelsea's lack in radio momentum.

Kelsea Ballerini is the latest victim of artists being pelted by things thrown by fans while performing on stage (after P!nk was thrown someone's mother's ashes and Bebe Rexha had to get stitches after being hit in the face by a cell phone in recent weeks).
Her statement after the fact: “hi. i’m fine. someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more so just scared me than hurt me. we all have triggers and layers of fears way deeper than what is shown, and that’s why i walked offstage to calm down and make sure myself, band and crew, and the crowd all felt safe. that’s all i ever want, is for shows to feel like a safe place for us all. i love you and appreciate the concern, let’s make the last two shows of the heartfirst tour the best yet.”

Truly disgusting that people do that to singers. Just so sad and frustrating singers have to deal with that. I don't get what possesses someone to do that.

WTF is wrong with people? If stuff like this keeps happening they’re not gonna let people anywhere near the stage.

Tf is wrong with people?! Quoting this so it will be in her single thread too.
Wtf! I hope she's okay! I wouldn't blame her if she didn't even come back out on stage. Let the crowd find and deal with the asshole who cheated them all out of the show...
Edit: Oh wait, I just realized this was already posted in the News and Non-Singles Discussion thread too! I merged all the posts into this thread :)

What is with people these days throwing things on stage (Bebe Rexha, P!nk, and now Kelsea, at least the people I can think of, and there was that incident where Ava Max got slapped by a concertgoer on stage)? I'm failing to comprehend what these people are trying to accomplish by doing that. I hope it didn't result in serious injuries.
On a different note, I'm glad to see this song hitting its stride recently, it's almost top 20 on MB and could get there as early as tomorrow if "Tennessee Orange" dips below this one in points. This is far enough from the whole clogging at the top, I'm just hoping it doesn't get blocked from #1 by something like "Everything I Love" that will fly up the chart.

Top 20 on Mediabase as of today! This has been gaining nicely since it hit the top 30 and I hope it can keep going and going all the way to the top. This has become my favorite single of Kelsea's to date so I really need this to become one of her biggest hits

Curious what will be pushed after this peaks. Wonder if they go for a third Subject to Change single or push something off Rolling Up The Welcome Mat.

Rolling Up the Welcome Mat was cute, but the one single they tried from it on HAC ("Blindsided") was an epic flop, sadly. It's a great EP and I love that she went there, but I want it to remain a side project. There are still several straight up BANGERS on Subject to Change (Muscle Memory, I Can't Help Myself, The Little Things) that sound like smash hits, and I don't hear anything on the EP that sounds like it would be more successful at country radio than any of those.

Penthouse made the short list at the CMA's for the song of the year and she just posted this gorgeous version from the Opry.
I know as much as anyone else, but a lot of exposure for a non-single.

I bet this won’t get maxed out until November/December. I really hope they try one more single from “Subject To Change” to promote next year though. I think Kelsea could easily do an amphitheater tour next summer assuming she isn’t opening for another artist & promote one more single before she ends the era.
“Muscle Memory” is the obvious pick for me.

I agree that she's ready for a bigger stage, though I'm not sure how much more she can tour with this material. She's been ON. THE. ROAD... already extended the Heartfirst tour once (twice?), I don't know what else she could tour with until she has more material out.

I actually prefer the EP over Subject to Change. “Penthouse” should have been released. Such a good song from a stellar EP.

Team #SUBJECTTOCHANGE for next single. Sooo many great options, in another world this album would have 6 or 7 singles.
My only issue is what should follow. "Muscle Memory", "The Little Things", "Love Is A Cowboy", and "What I Have" all feel like the most obvious choices to me. The first two are smashes in the waiting, where as the other two have potential to capture a more laid back feel for her. WIH in particular would be a big risk, but if it caught on I think could give her a lot of momentum to her next album.
And even if they don't pick any of my choices there's still a lot more that could work amazingly....
Having said that I can also see them moving on unfortunately. :(

I really want this to go number 1 for Kelsea, it so deserves it. As for the next single I think she should go with Love Is A Cowboy, it's the obvious choice in my opinion.

STC is a great album. Her best so far imo, aside from the EP. That being said, when the time comes to pick another single I hope they do something from RUTWM. Those songs are the most honest and well written collection she's ever put out. And its resonating in a huge way. She's gonna likely get grammy noms for songs and the album itself and the exposure of a single could really help her hit the peak potential we got a glimpse of when the songs were released. The honestly on the EP felt like vintage Taylor in the best way. I really hope there is more of that to come in whatever she puts out next

Pulling for Love is a Cowboy or I Can't Help Myself next. However, my money is on Muscle Memory if they do go back to the album for another single, with a small possibility of What I Have.
I cannot get over how slow radio is moving with this though. It's been a single for 8 months and still struggling with songs bumping it in and out of the top 20.

Kelsea got a plaque for seven #1 singles and over 6 billion streams of her music.

Still rooting for this to hit number 1 on the country charts. It's taking forever though...

Given the log jam up top and how slow the country charts are in general I still have hope for this one. Should be a top 10 regardless which is great after "HEARTFIRST" was done dirty.

This has slowed down a TON, and with the VMA performance of "Penthouse" and the current placement of that track near the top of the Hot Country playlist on Spotify, I wonder if they’re going to pivot to that one as the next single. I love this song, but "Penthouse" has potential to be a signature song for her (it already is among her fans), so I would be all for it.

I think it's a good option for a single. She has mentioned multiple times that the entire EP is not part of her label deal so I wonder if they'd be interested in properly promo'ing it.

I think Black River does whatever she wants at this point. I mean she’s the only artist to EVER have success on their label, and she would sign with a major the moment she walked from them. If she wanted Penthouse as the next single, i would say it’s as good as done.

I hope they at least try to get this into the top 10. #1 might not be attainable unless it starts seeing a uptick in spins, but this is one of her best songs, and deserves more than a peak in the teens.

The charts are so miserable right now. Its been a logjam this entire year...and now with superstars like Morgan/Combs pushing multiple singles at once its getting even worse. Couple that with songs camping out for 4-10 weeks at the top, its just not moving. I personally am burned out from hearing both of them among others on the radio. Its just overexposed....and I love both Morgan and Combs. This is only going to turn off more listeners from listening to the radio in general, and further push them to make the switch to streaming completely imo.
Kelsea and this song are simply a victim of it. It feels like this has already been on the chart forever, and still has a ways to go before ringing the bell. I think its a hit song, and should by all means get there. I also understand why she'd pull the plug and go to an EP song. The EP has been her "focus" all year and moved the needle for her more than anything she's ever released. Its real and heavily reactive. She's now a year out from the divorce, happily with a new dude, and its all quickly becoming old news. Wanting to pivot makes complete sense, if she wants to get a single off of that EP. I'd say middle of next year people will start getting eager to hear a follow up. Myself included

I firmly believe this would've gone #1 had it not been for the CMT performance. The vast majority of country radio listeners is very likely conservative, and callouts might be stalling the song. This is now considered to be a 'liberal' song, and I'm not sure it will hit the top 10. And it's a shame.

I'd say middle of next year people will start getting eager to hear a follow up. Myself included I’ve said this for a while now. Both Combs and Wallen have been overexposed and now the rest of the country music industry is paying the price. Singles that would normally take 18-24 weeks to peak are now at 30+ weeks. Less songs are hitting top 10 due to the logjam. This song could’ve been a top 10 minimum, but no one can compete with Luke or Morgan.
