As a black person myself I'll say this, first off everyone knows from a young age the n word is wrong to say, so him "learning why the word was bad" is total bs. Clearly, this man knew why, that is something people who get caught saying it say as an excuse. Secondly, him donating 100k to to the museum means nothing to me because why did he donated after he the controversy? It just seems like he's trying to save himself so you can miss me with that bs. I understand you love Morgan Fallen but there's no need to excuse racism You'd think that's the case, but it's not. And even if some people "know" it's wrong, their circles act like it's an appropriate word to say. That doesn't inherently make them racist.
To your second point, hardly anyone donates anything to any causes that are not necessarily close to them in any which way. I'm Latino, so I personally donate to Latino causes and Latino organizations within my profession. I don't expect anyone who is not Latino to donate to Latino causes. Have you donated to Latino organizations? I wouldn't fault you if you didn't. T he point being is that Morgan seemingly realized his mistake and tried to do something to right his wrong. Will it fully right it? It depends on the person. But to me, that doesn't scream asshole.
Again, don't put words in my mouth. I'm not excusing racism and I've never said racism is okay. It's not. But there's a thing called learning from your mistakes -- and I personally think Morgan has. You do not have to say your excusing racism verbatim you are saying it with your tone and wording. That defiantly is the case. He grew in TN, one of the most racist states in America. He knows the N word is bad, like many people not only in the South but in WW know. He said didn't N with an a (even if he did still not okay), he added the ER. Everyone knows the N word with an ER is wrong...only "circles" that allow that to be okay is racist people...so I'm still confused on why your making excuses. 2ndly, let's see if he is still donating money to black organizations now after his controversy. Has he donated some since then? Most likely not. It's called PR stunts/damage control

My two cents about the Morgan Wallen discussion:
As a black woman, it was disappointing when I saw the video of Morgan saying the N word because I'd recently just become a fan of his music prior to that and I was thoroughly enjoying his album and while I did stop listening to his album for some time, I eventually went back to it because it's just that good and the harsh truth is that Morgan's real "mess up", at least in the court of public opinion, just so happened to be being caught saying the N word. I bet you it was dozens of country acts who also use that word frequently who were condemning him when it was time to kick him when he was down.
I'm not silly enough to think there aren't dozens of racist white musicians/label executives who say the N word whenever they want to. The only difference between them and Morgan is that they weren't caught. That's it.
We can do the whole "he deserves to be ruined for eternity because he was caught saying the N word" dance but that's ridiculous to me because that just seems like more faux social media outrage for outrage sake.
Morgan using that word, in any context, was wrong and I really do hope he has learned the historical context of that word and doesn't use it anymore but if we all stopped listening to musicians because of the problematic things they've done/said either in private or public, we wouldn't have any music to listen to.
I've said it before: the first problem is assuming any musician (or celebrity for that matter) isn't messy/problematic in their personal lives. I assume all celebs are a**holes in secret and it helps me to never be surprised whenever stuff comes out validating that assumption.
With that being said, while I do respect those who won't ever listen to Morgan's music after that video, I can also say I won't be one of them. I'm excited for his next album.

--> art from artist!!! <-- Unfortunately Morgan makes good country music (at least as good as it can get). He's blending trap elements and successfully evolving the genre which is long overdue. As an artist, I respect him. As a person... nah. But if people wanna listen to his stuff they should be able to, same goes for Kanye now (what a bombshell THAT is). And supporting the freedom of listening doesn't mean you agree with the artist's politics or actions. Now should problematic artists continue to profit from their music? That's an entirely separate argument
Personally I feel like most of the culture that enjoys country music is problematic and the genre itself just kinda sucks
on a lighter and more on topic note... can radio please hurry up and start playing the masterpiece that is Romantic Homicide
my response to the Taylor drama (paraphrasing myself from like a month ago): If we were in her position, we'd all be doing the same crap to stay #1

I still have the odd feeling Sand In My Boots is the only thing keeping me from being fully on the Morgan hate train. Though given i agree with the whole "separate art from the artist" thing, and Colder Weather by the Zac Brown Band exists as a better version of that song, maybe not.

Morgan Wallen's overall music quality isn't good enough to be the hill one wants to die on. R&B elements in mainstream country music were found on Jason Aldean's (Burnin' It Down), Sam Hunt's (Body Like A Back Road) and Florida Georgia Line's hits (Meant To Be), and MW isn't really inventive, if at all.

I don't believe in "art separated from the artist" stuff. Art can only exist in and take on meaning within its context, under the guidance of the intentions of its creator.
Like, nothing can make me want to listen to "Gold Digger" ever again from the man who got ordered to pay $200k per month in child support (lol) AND went on Info Wars to say "Nazis did good things too, we gotta stop dissing the Nazis all the time" in the same week. Let alone any new music he puts out (featuring whichever rapists, groomers, homophobes he finds to collaborate with).
People are allowed to be upset about these artists and their continued mainstream success following shitty actions. Trying to defend them is weird to me. You can separate the art from the artist yourself or whatever, and listen to Wallen, Kanye, 6ix9ine and whoever else in your own time, but why come on here and tell people they're "dragging for the fuck of it"? People who hate "cancel culture" and want "free speech" are somehow always the first in line when it comes to censoring/invalidating/complaining about differing views. Not everyone is gonna like your favorite artist, and especially not when they have a troubling past. Better make peace with it now, or you'll be responding to random posts from strangers online forever.

Someone's current actions don't impact the music they made in the past in any way (even if Kanye went on to publically say that Graduation was created to praise Hitler that wouldn't be true), but it changes the way that music is perceived.
Art however isn't just it's reception - the reception of art changes over time, the art itself doesn't. Not wanting to listen to Kanye's music because he's now a Nazi is absolutely justified since his comments have warped the experience of listening to his music. Still listening to his old music would also be fair because, while his current behaviour is absolutely unacceptable and supporting his new output would be simply unethical, Kanye wasn't a Nazi while making his best albums. MBDTF or Graduation weren't made by a Nazi, even if the man who made them is one now.
I myself will be avoiding listening to his entire catalogue unless he seeks proper treatment and apologises for publically saying lies about the holocaust and Nazi regime.
Also I don't think that putting "Kanye will pay child support while trying to be an active father" in the same sentence as "Kanye is a neonazi" is justified. He isn't a bad father and Kim has mentioned that multiple times. He clearly loves his kids and cares for them. There are many, many deadbeat fathers in the music industry that should be getting flack for their behaviour but Kanye isn't one of them.

I personally think its up to each listener to decide to separate art from artist themselves, its kinda hard to make an objective case on that one since their is fair criticisms that can be made for both sides.
Lucky for me in the case of Morgan Wallen I don't like his art not the artist so I was never losing anything of value either way lol. I usually do separate art from artist unless in extreme cases like when I decided to finally remove Kanye from my own library out of discomfort a month ago.

Do people forget that labels want #1's. It's not like Taylor is demanding her label do something.

I don't agree with you on most of what you said (just a difference of beliefs) but I wanted to address this part specifically and say I included the child support thing because of the irony in having the line "I ain't messing with no gold digger" in the hook lol. Of course I have no issue with him being as supportive to his children as he can be, and I'm not trying to equate his antisemitism to that. Apologies if that's how it came across. I just wanted to point out that he's taken several L's this week.

Separating art from the artist doesn't apply to Morgan Wallen because he hasn't made any kind of art yet.

That user never said Taylor Swift didn't have fans willing to spend their money on her... Are Taylor Swift fans not people? I’d argue that they are not.

Personally I feel like most of the culture that enjoys country music is problematic and the genre itself just kinda sucks What an uneducated and untrue comment! Many country artists are among the classiest entertainers in the business. Try going to a Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless, Martina McBride, etc. concert and complaining about how problematic the "culture" of their fanbase is. The genre is SO MUCH BIGGER than the s**tty hick schtick that people like Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line have popularized in the past decade. Like, of course you are welcome to not like country music...but George Strait has 60 #1 hits (more than any artist in their respective genre), and not a single one of them is problematic. In a world where there are people who enjoy perfectly innocent songs like "Check Yes Or No" and "Amarillo By Morning", and people who judge them and think less of them for it, the country fans are not the ones with a personality deficit... Although if you're going to prop up Morgan Wallen's output as being "As good as country music can get", then no WONDER you have so many issues with the genre

If we need modern names in country music to support here's some:
Maren Morris Cam Kelsea Ballerini Zach Bryan Sturgill Simpson Kacey Musgraves Angel Olsen Orville Peck Amanda Shires Elle King Tyler Childers Mickey Guyton Ingrid Andress
All these among many others are country artists that should be doing more damage on the charts than f**king Morgan Wallen, Jason Aldean, and the other mediocre stuff that ends up usually making the year end charts. I'm not even a country person like that and only listen to some of these artists actively but even I know they actually make solid music and at least as far as I know not shitty people in some way or another.

Taking a closer look at the HITS weekly Streaming Songs chart, holiday songs occupy 22 out of the top 26. I would think most of those will be able to manage to chart in this week's Hot 100.

166( re-entry) Fleetwood Mac - Dreams 290,600 Why isn't this "Everywhere" instead? That's both a Christine McVie song and in a Chevy ad's that's, well, everywhere right now. I get "Dreams" is their only #1 and it had its own TikTok resurgence a little while ago, but, shouldn't the song people gravitate to be one actually sung and written by Christine McVie?

Separating art from the artist doesn't apply to Morgan Wallen because he hasn't made any kind of art yet. I felt like the ‘art’ argument would’ve definitely been an entire different story had he not said the things he has said. Also if he was most likely even bigger as he probably would have been continuing down the path that he was in pre controversy. Given that he would’ve been a lot more likable and someone that critics would’ve continued to adore, there would’ve been a lot more support for calling his music good art at least.

Seems like people on this board drag for the f**k of it at this point. correct. I've lurked here since 2013. It used to be 100% fun and games and chart talk. Now it's like 10% that, 90% drama

If we need modern names in country music to support here's some: *the list* All these among many others are country artists that should be doing more damage on the charts than f**king Morgan Wallen, Jason Aldean, and the other mediocre stuff that ends up usually making the year end charts. I'm not even a country person like that and only listen to some of these artists actively but even I know they actually make solid music and at least as far as I know not s**tty people in some way or another. sadly most country listeners are hostile to change which is why the genre evolves at a snail's pace Wouldn't isn't this sentiment as patronizing and stereotyping Southerners as being largely conservative? I'm not denying this doesn't exist or that it's not a huge problem but I don't like this broad generalization that people in the south are hostile to change whilst those in the west upper north or west, they "accept change" faster.

Rich Flex stays on top for a fourth week although not for long with an 18% drop in streams and with all Christmas songs soaring in streams, particularly Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree which rocketed up 61% in streams. And with the Christmas Freeze, it didn't have much room for other songs to gain. The only notable ones were SPIT IN MY FACE! getting a big boost of 22%, ALL MINE bouncing back 20%, and Here With Me rising 11%
