According to the 'Slide Away' pop thread, it did get an adds date but didn't get a huge haul. It was effectively useless anyway since all it amounted to was barely scraping top 50 (at the wrong time, as Austin said).
The incompetence was that the song was having a viral moment way before RCA bothered to push it to ANY radio format. They had a moment on their hands but they didn't even bother trying to chase it. They just let it go, and what they did do was too little, too late.

This is gonna steamroll right to #1 on pop. and have decent longevity once it falls from #1 and hangs around the #5-10 range.

Strange coincidences that make you go "hmm." This interpolates/paraphrases Bruno Mars's hit "When I Was Your Man" from his second album Unorthodox Jukebox. It is track six. Track seven is a song called "Natalie," a song where Bruno talks about a negative experience he had in a relationship with a woman named Natalie. This also is the same name of the antagonist in the RAYE track "Natalie Don't," a track about a woman who steals RAYE's man from her. Do you know what "Natalie Don't" heavily samples? Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," which just so happens to be the other song "Flowers" heavily interpolates. Even better still, "Natalie Don't" both lyrically is very similar to and even name drops in the song itself the hit Dolly Parton track "Jolene." Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus's godmother. Therefore... Speak Now TV comes out in March and it's the house Liam cheated on Miley in. Amazing post! There's actually a lot of crazy things like this in pop music, especially if you go down the gematria/numerology/astrology route.

The love between the three main pop girls (Taylor, Miley and SZA) is so heartwarming. Also, go back to 2009 Taylor and Miley and tell them in 14 years they would have two of the biggest songs in the world and see their reaction..

It does seem like the label change (from RCA to Columbia) made the difference in terms of commercial success here. I would argue RCA has been mishandling her music since "Adore You" underperformed and there was never a follow up single from Bangerz released. Streams, sales, and love was there for singles like "Mother's Daughter", "Slide Away", "Midnight Sky" but they all hit a brick wall. We'll never know the full behind the scenes story but often it seemed like RCA wasn't even trying. Anyways, keep streaming "Flowers" y'all! :)

Oof, yeah, that's another misstep. Adore You was a bizarre single choice and it understandably flopped, but why was there no follow up whatsoever? There was still plenty of interesting Miley and the Bangerz album at the time and 2014 was still in the age of long album cycles. Plus there were SO many good single choices there! Drive, FU, Get It Right, etc.

Considering how well the song is doing, I wonder if they will Miley perform it at the Grammys.

"4x4" received some early airplay and there was speculation that it would become the fourth single from Bangerz IIRC. Not sure if the next part is true but I remember reading some rumor back in the day that she either got sick or injured herself and the video shoot for it was cancelled. The single release was consequently cancelled and the era just ended.

Was an amazing show and definitely needs to be revived

Feels like we'll have a 10+ week Hot 100 #1 here, or at the very least an "As It Was" situation where an interruption for a week or two won't stop its buoyancy at the top. Poor SZA... if only Miley had waited one more week!

im not necessarily complaining as this is a solid to good song (albeit no slide away) but like. can anyone explain how this is blowing up *this* hard when miley hasn't had an actual hit in ten years ?? i hear y'all on the label thing and i'm not saying that didn't play any role in things but like. i don't recall literally any of the singles she's released since wrecking ball even coming close to the streaming numbers this has put up, and i feel like you can't pin that entirely on better promotion (and i guess this sort of sound aligning with the gp's current tastes)

I think the Bruno mars tie in as well helped gain some plays. Pop music is kind of stale at the moment too, so I think it was just perfect timing all things considered. Her nye show, plastic hearts getting so much praise, etc.

Was the promo less than her last 2 projects??

Was the promo less than her last 2 projects?? "Mother's Daughter" was the first single off of She Is Miley Cyrus, her scrapped 7th studio album. Miley had revealed, at the time, that her next album would be released in three parts as six-song EPs, and She Is Coming was to be the first installment of that. The subsequent EPs were named She Is Here and She Is Everything. "Slide Away" was intended to be a part of the second EP, I think. Obviously, She Is Coming is the only part that actually was released. The trilogy was meant to be completed in 2020, but as we all know, this whole idea was scrapped and Miley released Plastic Hearts. A few of the songs were repurposed on that album, but most didn't end up on it. Not clear how this all happened. Perhaps contract renegotiations went awry and she needed to release a full album to get out of it instead of EPs. Editing to add:

As much as I wish we got the She Is Miley Cyrus album, we probably would’ve never gotten Plastic Hearts if she released it. And that album has done wonders for her career.

IIRC, Bad Karma was intended for the She Is... series. But I don't think Joan Jett was added onto the track until after the decision to move to Plastic Hearts instead.

This smashing this freaking hard might just be the biggest surprise I've ever witnessed in music since I've been an active pop fan. Miley obviously is a big artist, but with her last couple projects it was clear she may have been done with active big hits. Not anymore 🤩🤩
As for the song itself, I feel like so many people can relate to self empowerment and self love. Sometimes we don't afford our selfs that kind of grace. This song is my new anthem. I'm choosing myself this year. Let's kick 2023's butt yall. 😆
