Imagine saying 3 years ago, a Miley lead single would be rivaling Adele/Taylor numbers. You have to love the complete unpredictability of Pop music sometimes.
In general, I think Miley has had the most unpredictable/roller coaster career in terms of success of any artist today.
Hannah Montana/Miley smashing during 2006-2009, her completely bombing in 2010, having a huge comeback in 2013, completely bombing in 2017, then having a comeback in 2023

God's Plan dropped around this time 5 years ago. It debuted on Spotify US with 2.4M streams then jumped to 3.3M streams the following day and then 4.3M streams the day after that.

thinking about the convo the other day about the songs battling for #1 being about the singer's exes and I just thought that its a bit funny out of all the songs competing for #1, its the Taylor Swift song that's is NOT about an ex

Nice to see some 2023 smashes right out of the gate but I'm gonna be so annoyed if Kill Bill gets stuck at #2 because of this lmao If both Kill Bill and Creepin get blocked from #1 then that’s annoying. At least one has to hit the top or we riot.

Shakira being #14 on AM is extremely surprising to me, but glad this song is smashing out of the gate.

Plastic Hearts didn't do the best commercially however it really rehabbed her public image and helped her gain respect from audiences, particularly non-pop audiences as a musician to take seriously. I've been seeing lots of love for the album and Midnight Sky all over social media since Flowers got released, maybe the success of this track will translate into increased streams for Plastic Hearts.
I'm very happy Miley is actually getting another huge hit because she deserves it, the amount of work she's put in over the years compared to her peers, reinventing her image with every release, giving out killer vocals and visuals, switching genres, etc. She's what Harry Styles thinks he is IMO, she's actually in-line with the greats from decades ago when it comes to being a musician and performer. Her approach to popstardom is very punk-rockish in the way that she just does whatever the fuck she wants, it's super cool to see in an era of 2 minute long TikTok hook songs that have clogged the charts recently.

Some of these stats are crazy. The song is Smashing so hard outside of the Anglosphere. - "Flowers" is now the English-Language song with the largest ever streaming day on the Mexico Spotify Chart, with 1,570,517 streams on 1/16/23. - "Flowers" is now the 2nd English-language song to receive over 700K streams on the Spain Spotify Chart in 1 day, following "All I Want For Christmas Is You".
- In Brazil, it is the 2nd English-language song with over 1M (1,041,328), after Anitta's "Boys Don't Cry".
/photo/1 And the song isn't even close to breaking records in the US on Spotify. But outside of the US it is the best performing English song EVER. Here is how much other hits were reliant on the US.
Song | Global | US | Excl US | Excl US % | Bzrp Vol. 53 | 14,393,342 | 923,975 | 13,469,367 | 94% | Flowers | 15,768,832 | 3,132,985 | 12,635,847 | 80% | Easy On Me | 19,749,704 | 5,435,431 | 14,314,273 | 72% | drivers license | 13,714,177 | 4,971,803 | 8,742,374 | 64% | As It Was | 16,103,849 | 5,953,134 | 10,150,715 | 63% | good 4 u | 12,586,645 | 4,708,514 | 7,878,131 | 63% | Anti-Hero | 17,390,253 | 7,786,096 | 9,604,157 | 55% | Girls Want Girls | 12,384,750 | 6,146,233 | 6,238,517 | 50% |

The Flowers performance outside the Anglosphere is bizarre. I guess it is being directly compared/associated to Shakira and it’s helping both of them there.
The song is ‘flopping’ in other international regions like Japan (N/A top 200), South Korea (#31), and India (N/A top 200) where the Shakira song isn’t breaking ground either.
Yet the song is doing good in random Latin America countries like Bolivia & Peru where obviously Miley has never been a hitmaker.

From what I can see didn't Easy on Me have 14m excluding US compared to Miley's 12m? Still insane numbers but it would make her the 2nd biggest and the biggest days after debut.

Agreed that I do think timing was mutually helpful for both of these songs (as opposed to hurtful, which is usually the norm). The narrative of both extremely popular female artists releasing songs directly related to their exes, who the public know very well, is helping. I think both people are seeking out both songs together, which is definitely interesting.

I think Miley's streams might be fake honestly. I could believe she is doing this well in the US, but why is some unknown pop star smashing so hard in other countries with a song in a foreign language? It doesn't make any sense. I reckon there's stuff going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

I don't think there's any fake streams but Flower's success is definitely artificial to some extent. Like I said, so happy Miley's finally getting a big hit again, just wish it was a better song

The delusion some of you are proudly sharing, iver the legitimacy of a woman's success, with the rest of the class surely is a choice. Also NOT Miley Cyrus being an unknown pop star chile, I guess Ashley O stole her thunder.

Miley is not playing with these girls. Wow.
A comeback. It's time.
We need some excitement in pop music again.
Happy that she had her experimental eras and comeback to more consumable appealing pop.
Hope Shakira lands a top 10 debut as well.
