Love Story was literally Top 10 in the IFPI and You Belong With Me is the second most watched Music Video from a female artist of the 2000s on Youtube. 

I do know this is a narrative among "stans" especially older ones from Europe but that doesn't make it true.

It's quite a similar case with You Belong With Me. For me, I Knew You Were Trouble was the first I heard from Taylor. It's also probably her first (or 2nd) true pop song. And looking at the chart success, it's not surprising it was the first song I heard from her:

Like I said, a local artists is one with certifications in one or two countries like Morgan. Not albums certified in every single region with a certification system. Yes, 1989 and Shake It Off/Blank Spaces were massive everywhere and bigger than Red/Fearless but every artist has that one standup like The Fame, I Am Sasha Fierce or TD 

You'll have a hard time convincing anyone objective that albums certified in the Middle East, Venezuela and Colombia are local regardless if one of their followups was much more successful! 

btw I'm not american and I came to find out people though THE Taylor Swift was local until 1989 when I started seeing delusional stans trying to discredit her for the first time

And looking at the chart success, it's not surprising it was the first song I heard from her:



But it's still not quite on the level of 1989 (Shake It Off or Blank Space), which is pure Pop music. So I think it's fair to say Taylor going full-on pop obviously helped her immensely in terms of global success.

I don't understand your argument... Love Story sold way more digital copies, has more streams (audio and video), and is just in general a much bigger and more well-remembered hit.

1. Obviously Taylor was far more global than Morgan and had more success.
2. IFPI is not a good argument compared to year-end lists of individual countries. IFPI doesn't show how many percent of those sales came from non-anglosphere countries.  According to the year-end lists, not that many.
3. It's absolutely a fair take that Taylor struggled to have success outside of anglosphere before going pop. I literally just proved it with the year-end lists of her hits. Yes, more success than Morgan, but still struggled.

Like I said, a local artists is one with certifications in one or two countries like Morgan. Not albums certified in every single region with a certification system. Yes, 1989 and Shake It Off/Blank Spaces were massive everywhere and bigger than Red/Fearless but every artist has that one standup like The Fame, I Am Sasha Fierce or TD 

You'll have a hard time convincing anyone objective that albums certified in the Middle East, Venezuela and Colombia are local regardless if one of their followups was much more successful! 

btw I'm not american and I came to find out people though THE Taylor Swift was local until 1989 when I started seeing delusional stans trying to discredit her for the first time

1. Obviously Taylor was far more global than Morgan and had more success.
2. IFPI is not a good argument compared to year-end lists of individual countries. IFPI doesn't show how many percent of those sales came from non-anglosphere countries.  According to the year-end lists, not that many.
3. It's absolutely a fair take that Taylor struggled to have success outside of anglosphere before going pop. I literally just proved it with the year-end lists of her hits. Yes, more success than Morgan, but still struggled.

It's quite a similar case with You Belong With Me. For me, I Knew You Were Trouble was the first I heard from Taylor. It's also probably her first (or 2nd) true pop song. And looking at the chart success, it's not surprising it was the first song I heard from her:

In the first picture you can see Love Story's year-end list placements accross the world. As you can see, it didn't do great outside anglosphere countries. That song was at least very country-inspired.

Then in the 2nd picure you can see the year-end placements of I Knew You Were Trouble, which is a pop song. As you can see, it had a bigger global reach.

Then she releases 1989 which was even more pop and had even more global success.

My point: Taylor going pop = bigger success outside anglosphere countries

Is that really disputable? Some facts:

- The Fame, The E.N.D and I Am... Sasha Fierce (albums against which Taylor competed at the 2010 Grammys) were undoubtly much more ubiquious than Fearless in pretty much every country in the world not named US or (maybe) Canada. If we focus the conversation on singles and forget album sales, one could argue she wasn't tier A even in North America.

- Speak Now had even less international reach.

- Taylor surely wasn't one of the few global acts that could afford to perform in stadiums across Europe, Oceania and even South-America in the early 2010's.

Love Story and (to some extent) You Belong With Me might have played catch-up, but that doesn't change the fact that at the time there was a level or two of global superstardom above her.
