I think it's more likely than not that Kill Bill gets a #1 peak. Wallen drops next week - although I'm not fully convinced he's going #1 since he won't have much help from radio. Miley drops the week after that, so Flowers will probably get a boost for a couple weeks. But with how steady SZA continues to gain on radio, she'll still be in a good position in late March. I think Morgan has number one locked. Look at how strong the loose singles have been. It’ll probably be the biggest album of the year unless Rihanna actually drops or a Taylor’s Version comes out

SZA unexpectedly beating Morgan for #1 on the Hot 100 would be the most satisfying thing ever.

What's the last country #1 song on Hot 100 from male artist? I would argue "Old Town Road."

What's the last country #1 song on Hot 100 from male artist? I would argue "Old Town Road." I would argue not since Country barely touched it. I'd say the last one was Taylor's "We Are Never Getting Back Together" in 2012. That had a country alternate version and actually peaked at #12 on country radio -- although Pop obviously carried it there. If we put both OTR and WANGBT with asterisks, I'd say the last true Country Hot 100 #1 is Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven" in 2005.

That was, in part, due to a pop remix if I recall correctly. It seems like the last time we find a solo male country artist at #1 on the Hot 100 is in 1983 with Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton's "Islands in the Stream." (I'm not seeing anything more recent than that). So, if Morgan is able to reach #1, that'd really be huge since it looks like the last time that happened was 40 years ago (and even then it was a duet with a woman). Kind of ironic considering Country has been extremely male dominated.

I imagine Garth Brooks would’ve likely managed to top the hot 100 in the 90s if he’d released physical singles then.

What's the last country #1 song on Hot 100 from male artist? Amazed? Country songs to reach #1 since 1980.some of the recent songs had little success on country. the early 80 songs were big at multiple formats. i bolded the ones by males. qz.com/quartzy/1592928/old-town-road-is-only-the-third-country-song-in-30-years-to-make-it-to-make-it-to-no-1Lil Nas XOld Town Road 2019 Taylor Swift We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together 2012 LonestarAmazed 1999 Billy Vera & The BeatersAt This Moment 1986 Dolly Parton 9 to 5 1980 Eddie RabbittI Love a Rainy Night 1980 Kenny RogersLady 1980 edit Kenny and Dolly also reached #1 in 1983 with Island In The Stream but was not mentioned in the article.

Crazy that Shania Twain isn't on that list. I'm sure it has something to do with 90s' rules and single sales or something though.

Crazy that Shania Twain isn't on that list. I'm sure it has something to do with 90s' rules and single sales or something though. Until 1999, the Hot 100 formula only included Top 40 airplay... so country radio was excluded as well as any other genre, such as alternative airplay or R&B stations. A country song needed a massive crossover appeal to reach the top positions of the Hot 100. In fact, several songs that went top 5 ("Achy breaky heart", "You're still the one" or "How do I live") were huge undeniable smashes that Top 40 radio could not ignore.

Not even 20K likes… jeez. It’s safe to say there is like zero hype for this? His current era was already a sizable decline and this new album being released in 2 months with no single yet is an interesting choice.

I mean… Shivers was 5 on the 2022 year end and Bad Habits was 13 after being 15 on the 2021 year end. that’s not even counting the UK where Bad Habits was number 2 on the 2022 year end… after being number 1 on the 2021 year end. Saying there’s no hype based on one tweet is a big leap. Plus he even said this is the first album he made “not for the charts” so he’s not expecting anything with an acoustic set about his best friend dying and his wife almost dying, and it’s not meant to be a smash pop radio jam like his past albums had.

Especially if posted by his HQ account. Niall's album announcement has 145k and we all know he won't be close to Ed's numbers. Also, I don't see that 'sizable decline' in the UK for example, because since the release of Bad Habits, he scored 12 top 10s there and he has the best-selling album (Equals) and song (Bad Habits) of the decade so far. Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't release something, but he probably will in this month (my guess 03/10 or 03/17).

I agree with most of this, and Equals, while technically a "decline" from Multiply and Divide, was definitely still huge. Artists saying "they didn't make this music for the charts" or "they don't care about its success" doesn't mean anything though, and even if it will take a more acoustic, nop-pop direction, that doesn't mean they won't give it a mainstream push or give at least one or two singles major radio promotion. If what you're saying is more the case though, I guess that will lower the bar somewhat and leave room for less disappointment if it doesn't do as well as his previous releases. As a huge fan though, I'll say I definitely am somewhat less hyped, and he could probably have afforded to wait a while longer.

And it was still a sizable decline. Divide is 5x Platinum, while this album tapped out before even hitting 2x Platinum. In the long run this album will struggle to do even half of his previous effort’s numbers. That’s a sizable decline on paper, not sure what to tell you. And lol at trying to write this off as some indie non-commercial album, we haven’t even heard it yet. Chances are this will have a traditional rollout, multiple singles that sound appealing enough for radio, and decent promotion. Not even 20K likes… jeez. It’s from his official account, and obviously Twitter likes aren’t some exact alignment of how much something will sell. Duh? I was just surprised I saw an A-list Popstar announce an album today and didn’t hear about it talked about absolutely anywhere except for a single forum post. Then the lack of social media engagement stuck out too, seeing as essentially any other A-list name could get more engagement announcing a brand new studio album. Maybe it will do good numbers and be a success. Does it seem like there’s any hype for it judging by the coverage so far though? No. Not in my opinion lol.
