It just kind of dawned on me that BRAT is sort of the Carly Rae’s “EMOTION” of this decade.
If you were around then you know the gays sort of had the same reaction with that album. Even though the straight/mainstream public basically wrote her off as a one-hit wonder the acclaim and online discourse for the album was hugeeee in the Popsphere and that album had the online gays in a chokehold for a solid year.
BRAT definitely seems to be executed a tad better in general (the collaborative remixes immediately come to mind), but I wonder if the whole modern eco system of TikTok/Twitter virality/Streaming era today existed a decade ago if EMOTION would’ve gained the same commercial power as BRAT.

It's funny you said that because I feel like the situations are the complete opposite.
Emotion was released as a followup to a big era after only 3 years. CRJ and her label were pushing for another mainstream success with that project. It ended up being a commercial failure but a cult classic.
Charli XCX has long established herself as an indiepop artist. None of her project has done well commercially in the US in the last 10 years. Brat was not produced for the mainstream pop audience and its commercial success was unintended.

As 'Guess' debuts at #1 on the UK Singles Chart becoming her 2nd chart-topper after 'I Love It' in 2013, she collects her 8th song from BRAT to hit the chart which is a crazy feat considering their rule to restrict artists to only chart 3 songs max. (the other songs are 'Von Dutch' (#26), '360' (new #11 peak this week), 'Talk Talk' (#47), 'Sympathy Is A Knife' (#56), 'Girl, so confusing' (#28), 'Apple' (new #8 peak) and '365' (#63))
I wonder what other albums have had this many songs hit the UK chart since that rule had been implemented

Billie is great on "Guess". We don't have to tear one woman down to lift another one up. Britney would be a great addition to many of the songs on Brat.
