She sounded AMAZING on Beautiful Things! I wouldn't mind hearing her perform the entire song!

I think this is well-meaning but extremely wrong lol. "It would take her less than an afternoon" is so...dismissive of the work that goes into recording a song, especially the way Kelly does it by layering all her background vocals. That doesn't even get into warmups, outtakes, trying new things, multiple takes for options, listening back to sign off or make any changes, etc. And that obviously doesn't even get into scheduling, set up, band recordings, production, post, etc. etc. If they wanted a truly light-lift thing, concert audio is the way to go, and even that isn't without leveling, mixing, etc. Anything else is real work for a team that already works around the clock, has families, lives, etc. Jason also recently revealed he has cancer. It's remarkable he's continued to work the way he has. I did not know that Jason has cancer, I hope and pray for the best for him. Did he mention what type of cancer he has or what stage ? He didn't share that on his Instagram post, but that he's had a surgery to remove tumors and there is more to do, and that he's getting less invasive treatment until the season and his book promo wraps, as were his wishes.

I'm not an Olympics guy, so can someone explain to me what exactly we can expect from her at the Olympics? I'm picturing her commentating on the events as they happen. Maybe interviewing 1-2 of the athletes after their event. Is that about right? Is there an opportunity for her to possibly perform a song or two? I know artists have sung at the Olympics before, not sure if we should expect Kelly to participate in that or not. (Even if the answer is "yes, she could", I'm not expecting her to. I'm just wondering if that's even something that historically has been done.) I am picturing something more akin to a Super Bowl halftime show though. Maybe she could be a guest for someone else's set? Or maybe I'm totally off base and she could perform Stronger or something as a soloist. All we know is that she's co-hosting the opening ceremonies, which is a one-time thing that kicks off the Olympic Games. Every host country does it a bit differently so it's hard to say what this means, exactly, but it's more an NBC thing than an Olympics thing. She'll be in Paris, but I'm not sure to what extent, if any, she'll be apart of the opening ceremonies. I envision her almost something like the hosts of the NYC ball drop for NYE, where they're there, but stationed somewhere and commenting on the ceremony itself. It's a long show, so maybe she'll perform, but it seems unlikely because that would have to take away from what's happening "on the ground." Usually performances are a part of the opening ceremonies, but the host city is the one that puts on the show, so the performances reflect that culture (in 1996 in Atlanta, Celine performed; in 2012 in London, the Spice Girls reunited). So it'd be very unusual, to me, if she performed as part of the Opening Ceremonies and I don't think there's any reason to expect that. Where her music could be involved is in the NBC promotion of the Olympics themselves, like "Rise" was for the 2016 Olympics. Katy Perry didn't perform that in Rio as she's not Brazilian, but it was the main track NBC used as background for myriad Olympics footage, montage, promo, etc. tl;dr: She's co-hosting the opening event, which is a big deal and gets a ton of viewership, but this will be her in a "host" capacity, not a "singer" capacity, at least as far as precedent goes. Thank you for this! I appreciate it. I wasn't really sure what to expect from her and what this really meant. I knew it was a big deal but I think you did a great job outlining what exactly this would mean. I also didn't know about Jason's diagnosis. That obviously will change things for Kelly and her team. (Have we talked in here about his book yet? I've been thinking about picking it up. Sounds like Kelly herself contributed to the audiobook version too which is coming out soon. Which is exciting!) Given this news, I do think it's unlikely we get anything other than maybe a performance of a Breakaway track on the show. Which I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly disappointed, but it is what it is. There are more important things. "Touched up concert audio" is more what I had in mind for this re-recorded EP, maybe even a live EP, though my point was that it wouldn't take nearly as long for her to put that together as a whole new album. I was thinking it could be a good compromise. The studio versions of SUBG and WA just don't do it for me anymore.

Wow, does anybody know what note she hit there? That was super high. The falsetto run around 1:42 is Ab5 to Bb5, back down to F5. Far from her highest, but up there! (For clarification, the Bb5 is the highest note of this run - she would ascend to the 6th octave once she hit a C(6). The keys for a scale go C-Db-D-Eb-E-F-Gb-G-Ab-A-Bb-B-C. That's simplified, but more or less what's going on here). I was more impressed with the consistent belting of the F5s in the chorus before that. She tore that uppppp.

If I were a greedy Kelly stan I'd say let's just get the official Olympics theme song on NBC this year tbh. I'll even take them using an old song like People Like Us or Long Shot

I've read the book. It took a few chapters to get into but it's good.

Once again (unfortunately for me), My December is again the album I'm leaning onto right now. I think I can speak for a lot when I say MD is not the KC album we listen to the most usually but no other album can express the anger and sadness from betrayal and breakup than that album for me, no other album I can relate to more. I will always be thankful for this album's existence.

That really was an amazing Kellyoke. I have never heard the original but it seemed to fit so well with Kellyβs voice and the band. I could see her recording something like this.

When does the season end for TKCS? I would think it would be coming up soon.

Last episode should be either next Thursday or Friday (depending on whether or not they're doing a 4 or 5 day week).
