Pretty sure artist's teams can access actual numerical data from streaming platforms, sales etc., but of course PR articles with these data are only necessary when the artists are breaking records.

But I am not sure whether you actually mean whether labels know how these data will fare on Billboard charts. Personally I don't think so. After all, Billboard has the final words on charts and the weighings and rules can be adjusted at their will.

I live 20 minutes south of Nashville and Last Night is big but not as big as Blinding Lights or As It Was. Just has great timing. It’s a catchy song and no other big / great songs are out that can challenge it.

Labels buy access to say Nielsen or other data collecting services.  Sometimes a specific platform might a,so have such programs but in most cases it would be data collecting company that collects from all the platforms.

like you wouldn't pay a local radio station for numbers, you'd pay a data collecting company for all radio station data,

these services cost tens of thousands of dollars a year and provide a number of specific numbers of hoe the label and songs are doing,

so yes, this then would be shared with their artist teams.  I do not know currently how quickly and often such numbers are accessible,  if it is real time or daily or what. I've been retired and out of the loop for quite some time now.

In the case of Vampire, vinyl and CDs will somewhat make up for the digital song sales from her webstore that would have counted towards the Hot 100 had the rule not changed this week.

I can see a certain analogy between Olivia and Ariana when she released Positions on her first week. The latter had gotten two massive hits (Thank U Next and 7 Rings) from her previous album similar to how Olivia managed with Drivers License and Good 4 U from Sour. The expectation for both artists is that their lead single from their next album would manage similar success. It seems that in both cases expectation won't quite materialize in spite of the hype. As a counterexample to this, I was also thinking of Flowers for Miley. It feels that it far exceeded expectations in becoming her biggest hit in the Hot 100, more than 9 years after We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball had their success, given that she had not gotten remotely close to that level of success.

Regarding Uzi's songs from their new album, while they seem to do well at both Apple Music and Spotify early on, they haven't held up as well over the week. Again, given how well Eternal Atake's songs debuted when the album was released created an expectation that will largely be unrealized in spite of how weak the Hot 100 is. The HITS projection for the Pink Album's first week SPS reflects that.

Regarding chart success, it is fleeting thing. It is probably the most intriguing thing to watch, because there is no way to know whether an artist's biggest hit is just around the corner or all of the sudden they will become irrelevant, barely able to chart at all.

What happened?  I'd say a lack of comprehension.  People see the numbers but aren't putting things together.  30m streams is a lot now. Shoot, 20m streams is solid now.  So if someone wants to beat a current number one that has strong streams and airplay it's going to need 40m streams, or a great radio launch or miraculous sales, which are dead in every format.


how Many songs in the past two years has topped 40m streams?  I just think people really need t just their points expectations and see better the overall picture,

plus of course, there certainly is a bit of the usual falling for hype within your circle and a it of wishful hope as factors.

one other point, rarely discussed is Amazon.  I think people write it off but it's a major factor and isn't some weak third cousin to Spotify and apple nowadays. And it definitely has a different mix of music,  just look at how Olivia is there.  That's going to make a difference in chart potential and performance.

I'd say the latter.  Her numbers would be more suppressed over the holiday than Morgan  due to the type of listener.

you know I don't much care for LN, okay not at  all!  But I really respect how it managed to go #1 and stay there without needing to play chart games to do so.  It is beyond refreshing to me.

being able to manipulate the charts by having up to the minute data and then being able to do stuff like discounts, remixes or whatever stuff the last minute has completely made charts a mockery.

yeah Olivia's team definitely realized how close the gap is and is taking measures to try and increase it. I remember when the news of Vampire and Last Night being within 5 points first broke Vampire wasn't discounted and was around #15 on iTunes. Now it's discounted and top 2. obviously iTunes isn't a great measurement of how well a song is doing anymore but it shows that Olivia's team is definitely paying attention to this stuff

Lavender Haze? Good single choice. I just don't like it as much as the others sonically.
Midnight Rain? I love it and would love to hear it on the radio, but it is the most unconventional track, which could work on the radio, but might not. 
Karma? The worst written song on the album, i love the sound of it, so if you don't care about lyrics, it's a great single choice. 
also. How on earth is You're On Your Own Kid not a ballad? 
I wouldn't mind more Cruel Summer's in the future so long as theyre good songs like Cruel Summer.
At least Vigilante Sh!t would be interesting.

I don't believe so, I think it was just from secondary sources, like Chart Data.

^Vampire is not being sold digitally at Olivia's webstore which probably confirms that the rule is in effect. If Taylor has no digital songs available from Speak Now's TV songs that would pretty much confirm it even if Billboard hasn't posted an article to explain the change.

It's been printed everywhere, so I am sure if it wasn't true Billboard would have done something by now about it. It was so prone to abuse and caused so many calculation problems and delays, something needed to be done.

They would have needed some sort of industry consent or risk revolt from the labels, it would be interesting to see how and where each label stood on the topic!
