Staff are members of the board just like anyone else here, and as such are entitled to share their own opinions about an artist or song, just like anyone else here. Sometimes people's opinions will be 'charged,' and sometimes it will feel like people are repeating those opinions over and over, because the artist or song in question is a current topic that will be discussed for as long as they're charting.

What we don't allow are:

- attacking other posters for their opinion on an artist (note that attacking an artist is fair game, because they are public figures who are subject to public opinions)
- bringing an ENTIRE other race or ethnic group into the conversation as a reverse-racism Uno card because you can't handle people calling your favorite artist racist
- intentionally prolonging arguments after one or more mods has stated in-thread that people should move on from the topic
- dupe accounts

As for everyone else, some of you just don't want nice things today. This thread is locked until staff feels like opening it again. Anyone who attempts to take this conversation to another thread to circumvent this is getting an automatic warning and  I might push the rest of staff to accelerate you to the nearest suspension level if a warning doesn't put you there, because y'all have been told multiple times to shut the fuck up and yet more than one of you persist in dragging this shit out.

Thank you Gary, this is it exactly. And I just want to chime in because our decision to lock the thread kinda gives the opposite impression about us not wanting to say "stop discussing", lmao!

Discussion is the whole reason that we are here on a music forum. Unfortunately, discussion is not always a positive thing in and of itself, and sometimes allowing certain discussions to continue can do more harm than good. For a discussion to be informative, engaging, etc., everyone has to approach it with the right intentions. And that is not happening in this thread right now.

There are a lot of "issues" going on today; Morgan Wallen sitting at #1 for WAY too long, Jason Aldean dominating the news cycle for reasons that people may or may not think are worth discussing, Gary making a joke that could have been either inappropriate or simply misinterpreted depending on the reader's perspective, etc. But at the end of the day, the #1 issue with discussion about any of these things is that several of us are choosing to respond to each other like assholes.

Every single person who sees this, whether you think you have been problematic lately or not, please use this as a friendly reminder to check yourself and your intentions, and present yourself in a way that is going to promote healthy discussion rather than fueling the tension. We can ALL benefit from being unwavering in that habit; not just on a discussion forum, but in every facet of our real lives! And if you see somebody else acting afool, there is no reason to suddenly throw your best self aside and stoop to their level just to do what? Try to one-up them or prove them wrong? To get attention and likes? Either way, it's not a catalyst for healthy discussions. Please try to keep that in mind when things open up again.

And if anyone sees someone who is actively engaging in asshole behavior, please report them rather than stooping to their level. And if you personally can't help but be an asshole, then Cynthia's parting advice is for you
